Post by: jlamour on March 05, 2009, 01:52:50 PM
I got an email from a friend saying they were playing Houdini in it's entirety.  The show's listed on DD's website.

double door (http://www.doubledoor.com/)

derp  #-o

I thought I'd read that page but these threads tend to digress.  I had no idea that's what that whole thread was about.  Anyhoo, still.  FUCK YEAH.

Double Door is really lame (sound sucks)
as much as i enjoy the Melvins, probably won't bother
seen the Melvins about twenty times and both shows at the double door were the worst(one with BB, one way back when)
even Quacker goes Deaf and the Fireside were better
even the Aragon show was better, and that place sucks azz

Melvins did sell out the DD last time they played there
and it was on a rainy Monday night
thats why i'm suprised they aren't playing a bigger place this time (Metro)
even though i'd love to see them every time they came around
i fell like i can miss here and there after seeing them so many times (+Reggie's was a great show)
DD has been there main spot for the last sixyears

I like the DD better than Metro or Reggie's. The beer selection sucks at Metro and Reggie's.  Out of the 4 shows I've seen in Chicago I think Reggie's sound is barely better but there's really nothing good about their location .  At the Double Door the crowd can disperse after the show to several dozens of local bars within crawling distance.  Also the neighborhood asshole factor is, believe it or not, much lower, imo.  I never saw them at the Metro but yeah as far as making $, I figured they'd sell more tickets by playing the Metro but it probably costs them more to play there too.

DD's  bar is ten feet from the stage
usually drowns out the music
if you don't have a spot in front of the sound board, the sound is horrific
i haven't drank at a Melvins show, so i wouldn't know about the selection of beer
but i am sure that can make for a better experience
i'd rather they play the Empty Bottle

hey didlisquat, fuck the sound system.  get you a nice spot front and center and feel dale push some air toward you.  in my humble opinion THAT'S the melvins experience.
you can't get the same thing through speakers.

Robert Pollard's Boston Spaceships sounded really good there
but that was due to a good spot
i'm just tired of squishing in with the crowd these days
i like hanging in the back if it's a packed house
it would probably help if i drank a few
i love seeing them live, so maybe i'll get to the stage early and hang on
