yeah, Dale played for Leech which was pretty fucking heavy.  Buzz and Dale rocked the two piece playing Oven, Let God Be Your Gardener, the Kicking Machine, Black Bock, Suicide In Progress...then Dunn stepped in and they opened with the Ballad of Dwight Frye then did Houdini. ended on With Teeth and the Bit.  maybe it happened differently.  i was pretty drunk. i must say i was quite suprised with the '83 set.  souned pretty bad-ass live.  Spread Eagle Beagle as well.

a lot of fucking posers at the show.  i swear i was the only person going crazy when they played the shit from Ozma.  people were looking at me like i was a freak.  i almost didn't see this show.  the bouncers weren't going to let me back in even though you could see my stamp!!!  said it looked like the one from yesterday.  i'm like "motherfuckers i paid!!!".  then the next stamp i got said "freeloader".  MOTHERFUCKERS I PAID!!!!!!!!

I'll have more details up later.  I'm just checking shit out.

I see nothing wrong with your songs there Rhett, but I don't believe they played Kicking Machine.

Dale sitting on Leech was crushing.  Mark Arm said that Leech was so heavy it needed three guitarists and two drummers.

I bet three Melvins could make that song sound heavier than thirteen members of Green River...

That was one amazing show. the 1983 songs are really cool to hear live.
Rhett E, Im with ya on the ozma songs. let god be your gardener and Oven sounded so awesome. The whole show sounded really good... except when green river was playing so loud you couldnt distinguish a note in the song. but they did do a wicked Leeech with dale on the drums.

I have no clue if I saw any of you or not. the place was packed, faces blurred together into one huge crowd of melvins fans I kept myself to the 21+ area and had a nice view of the stage for the houdini set.

no buzz and dale duo my ass, Idle

Yea, yea......         :)   I was just going on what Dale told me.  He was either goofing with me ( he knows I'm on the board), or they changed their mind.  Either way, it was a great thing to be wrong about.

went to both shows and they were both fuckin badass, like somebody else said, best show since the capital theater 20th aniv. show. met idlehanz, (actually my best friend already knew him, kinda weird) but ima go out on a limb and say the saturday show was better. had an amazing time, flooding my motel room and breaking the ironing board and a lamp. good times. night goat was amazing. loved hearing some shit from stag. melvins 1983 blew me away. i wanna see this happen again. got a bunch of pics if anyone wants to see any. Does anyone know if there might be a soundboard recording like last time???

Best melvins show I've seen yet. 83/duo set was great, I was up front at the barrier most of the time kickin it with some old punker dudes and some dipshit tool fans being crushed and groped in the pit. It was a positive pit so no windmilling or punching. Melvins alone was great too. Then directly after that some meathead came up and just fucking crushed me between him and some other big (but cool) dude. I gave him a lot of shit, basically trying to get him to fucking hit me and get his ass kicked out but it didn't work. Fuck green river fans.
Green river came on looking like skynyrd with the three guitar lineup, and played green river. And then they sucked. And then dale came out and they played leeech. Then dale left again. Then they sucked some more. After about another goddam hour of this they finally stopped. During this time I was in a pretty foul mood about that meathead guy. Shit like this barely affects me most of the time, but I was kinda bumming on the floor and grim came up and got a couple of pics and improved my mood. Thanks for that grim, put those pics up soon please. Green river finally fucking gave it up, and houdini. Opened with hag me which is my favorite song after at the stake. Shit man they coulda stopped after that and I would have been completely ok with that. Encore was uhhh with teeth and THE MOTHER FUCKIN BIT! Shit gentlemen, hands down the best show I've seen, even with lynyrd river.
Had to work at 8 next morning and worked till 7, then went directly after that go wolf eyes and black dice. I am at work right now on about 6 hours of sleep in the past two days. I feel like shit. Awesome show though.

Yes, this was found via a gigposters thread. *edit* This was at one of the Seattle shows, not the Portland show.

It's funny, Buzz almost looks star struck, with a normal picture-face.

I didn't know Big Unit was a Melvins fan!

I watched Randy pitch against the Mariners on TV at Pikes Place Brewery May 22. I was waiting for the Melvins to play the Showbox 21 + show.

With the Giants in town he could have showed up after the Friday or Saturday shows.

it's fine and dandy with me that kids went to see green river. but not even staying to see a dynamic, influential, and much more valid band such as the melvins?
Title: Re: Seattle, May 23rd @ Showbox

Both May 22 and May 23 were exceptional shows:

A complete set of Melvins 1983

A complete set of the Melvins as a two piece

A complete set of Green River, acting like they were headlining the show. I didn't have a problem with it, but I can see that after over an hour of Green River, some people may have had enough.

Then Houdini live.

Throw in a few closing songs.

That was a lot of music for one night! I am still awestruck.

The reprint Houdini shirts and the tour posters.  That was it.

That was so disappointing. I was expecting some cool merch for their 25th anniversary!

saying you like grunge is like saying you like ragtime or disco or big band.  its a genre that was destined to die.
or, in other words, a silly fad with no substance.   :P
it's fine and dandy with me that kids went to see green river. but not even staying to see a dynamic, influential, and much more valid band such as the melvins?

also, this is my 2 cents on this: of course anyone who says they're a grunge fan is an idiot, becuase since when is grunge even a legitimate genre? Thats like saying youre a death doom fan or something equally stupid - the label just makes no sense at all. And now its being spawned off into more bullshit genres like post grunge. I could go on forever about this.  As for the lineup for this show, I think it was a good choice to put GR and the Melvins together for their 25th anniversary becuase of all their history with Deep Six and everything - Green River is just a novelty to see if anything. In a way its cool to look back on the past of the members of the band as well.

so what are the official genres of music?  maybe this will make it easier for people to understand

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Lists_of_music_genres

my personal favorite  is the list of calypso-like genres

I didn't know Big Unit was a Melvins fan!

I watched Randy pitch against the Mariners on TV at Pikes Place Brewery May 22. I was waiting for the Melvins to play the Showbox 21 + show.

With the Giants in town he could have showed up after the Friday or Saturday shows.

Bad quit smoking a few day before the Melvins came to town and he was not playing well with others.

The Showbox staff deemed him "too violent" and ejected him for the night.
