what an awesome night. its 5 am. and i just got home. so, now its time for a review!,
i headed towards san jose with 2 friends at around 6. we stopped by the best burrito shop ever on the way. we parked walked to a liquor store, chugged a beer, and got in line. luckily, some friends were already there, and we got a spot near the front of the line. :-D
there were no special guests as advertised.... just MELVINS. 2 sets. a setlist that could kill.
so all four came out, buzz told a story about how their new sound guy got swept up in a coke scandal, and he had just showed up. they had to do a quick impromptu sound check, jared sang the theme song to wkrp cincinatti, and they played "the smiling cobra and left the stage. 30 minutes or so later, buzz and dale came beck out and played as a duet. i cant remember much of the set list, but they ended it with skin horse. this flowed into the main riff from POTRE, then they played the talking horse, then they went into the part of POTRE that has lyrics. it was fucking stunning.

im drunk, tired and drawing a blank.
the show ended at 1230. we went to a local bar, drank more, and danced til 2. went to a friends house, and drank more. got breakfast, and now im home.

a new t shirt with that WWII eagle that buzz made a gig poster out of recently
gig poster that had a velvet graphic on it. shirts were $20, poster was $10.
hopefully someone will help me fill in the setlist gaps.
i forgot to mention... the stage was tiny. the stage was a quarter circle in the corner of the venue. dale and coady were right up front, while buzz and jared were behind them. super fuckin' bad-ass.

There will be another camera at the Eugene show tomorrow. MrKilgore! Though I'd never call him an assistant. He's filmed more shows than I've probably attended. He's an old school bootlegger.

Well, I don't really go that far.........Besides, my last experience in Eugene made me believe there's very few fans and a lot of morons that just want to hear loud noises and get fucked up.
yes, it is very fun to not remember the exact set..there is also some element of finally figuring it out that makes it that much better...

two sets..
1st: buzz and dale played their duo set into playing: potre, talking horse, bloated pope, dog island, dies iraea with the biz guys..maybe some others too..very hazy..im speechless at this point..remarkable set
2nd; started this set with dies...some covers, billy fish, anaconda, zodiac, the hawk?, cobra, with teeth, night goat, the bit..i might be close with the order but i'm sure somebody knows it for good...
Yea that wkrp melody jared was singing was hilarious...everybody started to sing tooo, that went right into with teeth..
Safe to say that Buzz and Dale's duo set was: Ballad of Dwight Frye, It's Shoved, Let God be your Gardener, SIP, Oven, Let Me Roll It, Black Bock..but I know something might be missing from that..i think pretty much the same from the anniversary shows..
The remainder of this set included the BB guys like I mentioned. I know all those songs I said were included..That Devo song must've been the cover i talked about but it was brand new to me...
Hooch was definitely in the second set too..the drum intro for Civilized worm went right into blood witch (i think) not the hawk..i think it pretty much ended with smiling cobra, with teeth, night goat, the bit...we got with teeth, smiling cobra, and dies iraera all TWICE..i hope more details fall into place..but that's almost all of it..
I showed up just a few minutes before they started..got inside drank some booze..got the poster...i can put up a picture sooonish..then they pretty much came onstage, buzz talked for quite a while about that soundguy's coke story and why they were playing the show in general..the story made it seem that the guy needed to be in san jose that day for court and that is why they scheduled the show. Lucky for us!! the rest is history..I easily could say this is my best melvins show to date but i decided that I think i will just put that term to rest because well. it's the melvins...and they never disappoint and any new melvins experience will always seem to outshine the one from months ago..or whatever.
After the show, I got more drunk and stayed up to almost see the sun come up.
