well, even though I missed the show, I ran up there right when I got out of work to try and nab the shirts. while waiting for security to help me out, I spotted Buzz down the block a ways...he couldn't have been nicer considering he had just finished the set and had to load up the van. I know many have said it before, but Buzz is really polite and kind - I don't know how I'd be in the same situation.
anyway, glad to have grabbed the shirts...hoping to hear how the show was for the folks who saw it.
I could have checked out Down after security let me in, but decided to head for zee hils. the dude at the merch counter didn't seem to pleased to be selling anything other than the several dozen (it seemed) Down shirts available.
there was no other melvins stuff other than the two eagle shirts.
I'm the a-hole that bought that signed piece of shit Alpha Paiste hi hat cymbal. Make fun of me all you like- I'm gonna sleep with it under my pillow.
The show tonight in NY was really one of the best I've seen, and you lads have been through this town quite a bit. The guitars' sound was big and brown and the sparkle kits were pungent and glooey, thanks to the greatest heavy hitter on the planet. The sound (for you guys) was great- I heard a lot of folks in the lobby afterwords saying pretty much they came to see you all. I really dug Down, but there can only be one winner in NYC on any given night...
Thanks Melvins. -'BRRRRSHHHHH...'! zzzzzzzzzz.
no posters?
i saw a couple of posters. when i first got there, there was was this dark blue poster w/apelike things on it that was really cool going for 40. I'm not sure if it was from an earlier night or more limited or the silk screen cost extra. later, when i looked there was a black and white poster w/a woman. cool design. went for 20. didn't buy it.
another cool note was that evil army didn't play and melvins and down split their set time. melvins were supposed to get 45 and went 60. looked the same as other setlists so i don't know where the time went. maybe more talking and noise. great fucking set.
i stayed for down. they were ok. played a lot from their fist album which i like. phil anselmo said a lot of funny things. (different kind of funny than buzz).
The melvins were okay. This show was the my least favorite of any melvins show I've ever seen. EVER. Shut the fuck up buzz, play more old shit (and play it slower), fuck Down fans. Seeing Phil Anselmo a-live was alright. Don't mean to be a negative nancy over here, but this was not worth 35 bucks AT ALL. Also, I wore my bbs shirt because all of the recent merch from the past 3 years has blown...
I had more fun going into the m&m's store and watching tourists pose with keychains and shotglasses modeled after the green, sexy, m&m.
Yours truly, deeply, forever,
DYTM.

whos the other persona/username?
Rebecca is a knowledgeable follower of the Melvins,
so if she says they were off that night then I'm
gonna take her word for it.

I worship becca and her spectacular tattoo. No lies!
arriving late to the conversation...
If anyone reading this actually DID stay through all Down's set, who was it that came up and played with them for their drunken end of show jam-fest. The only one I caught from Philthy's mumbling rant was the guitarist from Skid Row.
setlist anyone (for the Melvins, of course... too hammered by end of Downs set - only way to cope- )?

I wanted one of those eagle shirts too, damn it, but I wasn't able to get down there in time.

Doh!
When Down played in Orlando, they broke into 'Grinder' by Judas Priest but only played about half of it.
