Title: Regency Ballroom San Francisco 16 October 2009
Post by: GrimReaper on October 15, 2009, 04:55:25 AM

I'm starting to get psyched for the show tomorrow night. This will be my first time seeing the Butthole Surfers.

Who has tickets? I'm always up for a few drinks if you see me.

it better not be sold out. ill be at the box office as soon as it opens. being a poor boy, i hate paying ten bucks for a ticketmaster "convenience" fee. i saw the buttholes at the filmore for the first time back in december. what an awesome week that was. butthole surfers, melvins, and fantomas all in the span of four days! and now, by god, we get melvins and butthole surfers in one fuggin' night. the butthole surfers show was decent, but it lacked something. im hoping for a better experience this time. i am glad to see that they are bringing a projection screen with them on this tour. ive always heard that the videos that they play are legendary.

what a very strange night.

SO, i met with a good friend of mine on a bus to get to a train out to san franicisco. he seemed very down and out of because he took too much methadone the night before while recording music. we get to the city, eat at tommys joint, drink some beers, and everything seems ok. we then made it to the line and came across a fellow "white boy" from our home town who decided to hang with us. i told him about how  i wanted to go see u4x danny at a local bar, and white boy swore that he had a plot to rape my ass regarding the fact that i know him via the internet. i chuckled it off, and after we bought our ticket, we made it down to said bar with a slightly drunken haze.

i spent a good 30 minutes with danny and his lovely friends. aquaintences we were well met. laughs were had by all.. my friend and the local boy seemed to disappear immediately without saying anything... so  we drank, laughed, and made our way to the venue.

we missed the psychic ills set entirely, but made the melvins set ,within 5 minutes beofre it started. the set list is pretty much the same as theyve been playing for the past 6 months, although without the bit or night goat :( i rocked out hard and drunk, and there were two mexicans directly in front of me who looked completely out of place with their blue bandanas. i knocked into them twice throughout the set, and they they looked at me, pointed to their elbow, then my face, and generally told me to stop rocking out, so i did. so is the world.

the set ended and i went out to have a smoke. my friend of whom i came with called me and told me that he was almost back to the train station to go home. worried regarding his intoxication, i told him to wait and followed his path. there were no ins and outs, and gave up the butthole surfers set for him. i meet up with him, and he tells me something regarding the fact that people wanted to beat him up, so he left. he had puked all over the area of the mosh pit while the melvins were playing.

no sleep + methadone the prior night = BAD IDEA.

he told me that the bar that i met danny in had rainbow flags flying and decided to give me shit for it. i didnt see said rainbow flags, and they might have been there, but it really doesnt matter.... but then again, i guess it goes with local white boys idea that danny wanted to rape my ass.  anyway, he yelled at me the whole walk back to the train, i lost my nerve, and pushed him against the wall. i told him that if he didnt stop yelling at me belligerently, id run my ingers down his throat and make him puke again.it pissed him off enough to leave me alone. i need to get the hell out of here, and this town, and start the hell over.

weird night
. melvins owned.
danny = righteous fellow.
missed the buttholes for no reason. :(
i  guess this is life.
DISCUSS!

Don't call it Frisco!!!

Need to keep it short and sweet -- will write more later.  Meeting Ether was a pleasure, the bar we were in was called Kimos, kind of a shady place.  Upstairs they often host bands, but downstairs (where we were) is more of a geriatric gay dive bar.  Most of the patrons are well past 60.  Oh well, it was like a block from the venue, and had $4 tall boys. I don't recall any rainbow flags, but it honestly wouldn't surprise me.  Unfortunately, my anal rape overtures were not reciprocated by Bunny.

The venue was nowhere near capacity, but there was still a good sized crowd, if a strange one.  More on that later...

Like Ether said, the Melvins were, well, the Melvins...and played pretty much the same set as reported for other shows.

I also missed the Buttholes :(  More on that later, though...

fuck i'm the only one that caught the Buttholes???  i had a fucking amazing night, went with a couple of good friends that had never seen either band before but are big fans of both. My 7th time seeing the Melvins.  Took bart, drank Newcastle and Jack Daniels on the walk to the venue, had the perfect buzz and got in right before the Melvins started.  Even though it was a standard set, i really enjoyed it, no complaints, great fucking set.  especially watching my friends' faces while they experienced them for the first time.  And i know the Buttholes are more predictable and not as crazy as back in the day, i dunno if it was because it was my first time seeing them or because i was faded, but i thought they were amazing.  Didn't catch the end of their set though cause we had to make it to the last bart train, but this is one i'm gonna always remember.  Perfect night.

Not a big fan of EHG, but DNA is walkable from my place.  If you guys get in early enough, I'll pop by for a drink or some food beforehand.

Yep. ^    :)     lived in the South Bay for a stint.

I'm not sure if I can even swing getting the day off, BUT I purchased a ticket today anyway.

Who knows, with the economy the way it is..I might be laid off when Dec comes around.

I'm going to make all attempts to make the show.

I'm pretty sure they started with charmicarmicat, right?
I was in the mosh pit for the melvins entire set and my ass is kicked. Had to leave with a song or 2 left, soaked and beat. Met a few guys from the august show at the blank club, soaked and beat like me from the pit. 7th melvins show, first bhs...met jared outside the venue a few hours beforehand, my bassett hound, my lady and I were wondering the city and ran into him...talked about music and the bhs, he petted my dog.....literally though, not sure if 'pet my dog' is slang for something creepy in the city or not....

I thought the BHS were amazing, leary is a nut and gibby didn't seem half as bored as everyone been saying about the previous shows....leary talked for a minute about how they were really happy to be back in 'the city' and looked like they had a lot of old buddies around. Dale came on and played the encore with 'em, some noisy stuff and '22 going on 23' I believe. No theresa nervosa, I think that was established earlier though.....I'm not sure if pinkus could be more of a badass...half the time he looked like an old hardcore dude that was gonna smash his bass on someones nugget, the other half he was smiling and grinning and giggling like he was giddy as a schoolgirl.....it was great

It seemed like 'dog island' was heavy as can be....

first time staying in a hotel instead of making the 3+ hour drive home to chico.....that was nice.
My ladys never been to the city, so we woke up and went to the pier and the wharf and ate crab and clam chowder until I felt like i was going to turn into a barnacle....
bought my ticket ahead of time cuz I was worried about the BHS drawing a crowd and none being available at the door....fucking ticketmaster....first time I've went through them in like 4 years, fuck those guys....

Great review Boo!

I went to Shotwell's but didn't see anyone I recognized.

I must have got thrown out of the place just before Dale Crover took the stage.

I guess I could have got back in but I was advised not to. Ended up getting a righteous poster and a picture with Moss.

Oh shit man, I didn't realize you were going to make the trek!  We started off at shotwells and played a couple games of pool, but decided to head down toward the venue a little earlier than planned so that our designated driver could squeeze in another drink before the show and still be sober at the end of it.  Sorry man!  Next time fo sho.

the regency ballrooms policy, I believe, doesn't matter who's playing....

the double drummer freak out was good....
when the fog machine first started I thought it was kinda lame....but it kept pumping out fog for like 15 minutes straight, and by then the whole stage and 30 feet from it was nothing but a thick cloud that made the strobe lights brighter/darker than I've ever seen.....dale and king koffee were fucking wailing on it....
