Title: Melvins on yer iPod
Post by: the bloat on December 20, 2010, 11:07:37 AM
So I've been making these infinite Melvins mixtapes (as I call them) and if you haven't tried it before you really should.

I have all these Melvins songs loaded on my iPod. Roughly 400 or so. I excluded Jello and Lustmord collaborations and stick to their proper albums, EPs, live and B-sides. I go to 'artist" and then shuffle all songs and let them play as they will. The beauty of this band is that all their songs sound great back to back to back. A song can pop up from 10 Songs or Mangled Demos and fit nicely next to something from Stoner Witch or (A)SA or even Chicken Switch. Here is a sample mix that I had going this morning:

Revolve (New and Improved) Electroretard
Hide Stag
Raise a Paw (Live) Pick Your Battles
The Bit Stag
Vile Vermillion Vacancy The Making Love Demos
Elks Lodge Christmas Broadcast Mangled Demos from 1983
In the Rain Singles 1-12
Cowboy 7" Plainfield Split
Revolve Stoner Witch
Leech Singles 1-12
The Stupid Creep Nude With Boots
Porg King Buzzo EP
Over From Under the Dog, Girl & Boy Treatment Chicken Switch

There you have it. Totally random. And while these may not seem like they would sound good together, they actually do.

Depends on what kind of Melvins mood i'm in really . . .at the moment my iphone 4 is populated with

Prick
Hooch
Pigs of the Roman Empire
COD
and then Stoner Witch to mix it up.

Genuis mixes are pretty cool, don't know if all iPods have it though. That's where you choose a song and the iPod comes up with a mix based on other songs in your library. Otherwise I don't listen to my iPod on shuffle very often.
