Title: "The Fool, The Meddling Idiot" - origin of song title?
Post by: meanclown on January 03, 2011, 02:27:33 PM
I was watching one of the greatest sci-fi films ever last night on TCM, "Forbidden Planet" (RIP Anne Francis) - which I've seen several times thru the years (and just scored on Blu-Ray also) - and was quite surprised during a scene towards the end where the doctor dies as a result of subjecting himself to the Krell mind-boost machine - Walter Pigeon's character, Morbius, yells "The Fool, The Meddling Idiot!"

Thus was born the origin of the song title, I suspect.

Yo Glenny Glen Glen! I've been good, thanks - yeah, "old man" is the operative phrase - just had the "mile stone" birthday two weeks ago - umm...the roman numeral "L" one - LOL! Glad to see you're still here too, pal! Best of everything in 2011 ! You know all us Melvins fans have to stick together!

Yeah - I was thinking about Leslie Nielsen too - he left us earlier this year - had just seen him @ Chiller Expo in NJ, October 2009. Sad news...that probably just leaves Earl Holliman from that cast! Remember him? I think he starred w/Angie Dickinson in "Police Woman" too!

What's news around these parts?

Rocketh on, G-man and friends...

Nice one! Here it is, at 10:39 -  (I'm wondering if Dr. Zachary Smith could have come close to saying it in Lost In Space, also? He said 'meddling' a lot!)   :D

I was watching a Mythbusters episode from 2008 the other day and they were talking about turning Grant's robot into a "kicking machine".

I believe Buzz has said "The Kicking Machine" is the title of an episode of The Rockford Files.

Also, "Toady Acceleratio" is somehow a reference to Mr. Toad's Wild Ride at Disneyland.

the original 'kicking machine' was a comic by rube goldberg featuring
one of his fantastic contraptions that after a long series of chain reactions
lets you kick yourself in the ass

According to Wikipedia: Mr. Toad's Wild Ride is the name of a ride at Disneyland (and former Magic Kingdom attraction), inspired by Toad's motorcar adventure. It is the only ride with an alternate Latin title, given as the inscription on Toad's Hall: 'Toadi Acceleratio Semper Absurda' ('Toad's Ever-Absurd Acceleration').
Seems about right to me. Love that ride BTW.

Yeah, they have one at Disney World in Orlando, and it used to be my favorite behind The Haunted Mansion. I like the part where you go into the pitch black tunnel and it leads you to think there's a train coming head-on.

Yep. Pink Bat refers to the pink bat the players use on Breast Cancer Awareness days at the baseball field

Pink Bat? I was thinking something else ... something more carnal.

Anyone know the origin of ZZZZ Best?  I've always pictured it being named after something a drunk guy said while trying to say "ZZ Top is the best".

ZZ.....ZZ.....best.....*passes out*
