Mark is a sweetheart.
I fondly remember when they played the Dragonfly during Stoner Witch.
Mark handed me a MELVINS houdini doogy/pussy shirt out of nowhere.
He proclaimed it would look good on me.
I thanked him profusely.

I likey Mark. O:)

That was a great interview thanks!

Anaconda calls The Silent Treatment a continuation of Stoner, Stag and Honky, and I tend to agree with him.

this was great, cool to hear a little about his history and what he's up to now... thanks for posting it. i can't help but wonder what Melvins would be like now if Mark was still holding down the low end.

has it been revealed why he left, exactly? this interview seems to sort of be building up to it, but then kinda skips to talking about his solo release a few years later.

Mark thought they had to send demos to major labels,Buzz didn't agree on this

There was a recent interview somewhere on here with Buzz in which he talked about why they let each bassist go. Commenting on Mark he simply said that he couldnt put up with him any longer. Who's to know whether what Stallion mentions was part of it too.

i could be wrong,i remember reading something about that, probably was the Rokko Adventures book. after Stag,Stoner Witch and Honky Buzz was sick of major labels,on the other hands Mark D had a different opinion. not sure if this has been the main reason tho

I never knew about the band during the Mark days but the thing that always hits me when i see an old band interview from back then is that he seems way more outspoken than any of the other bassists. At times its almost like he is the front man or songwriter and Buzz takes a back seat. Although Buzz tends to give others credit, i cant imagine him totally giving over to someone elses vision as regards the direction of the band. If indeed that was the case of course.

what you say is true, there's no doubt  Mark D has been the Melvins third member who contributed most to the songwriting process. he played guitar too. his solo album  The Silent Treatment is a little gem,you can hear an early Pink Floyd/english vibe on his songs . probably that was my favourite era of the band because i knew them during that time

Well, there's a video of this with Buzz being coerced into throwing a bottle, but you can see he'd rather be somewhere else. I saw Mark D in the background but my enfeebled mind can't picture Dale there. The video is here, somewhere.... (If only Jellyhead could reach the sweets...)

Yeah that's on the Nine Inch Nails video Closure. It was released on VHS back around '97 and never officially came out on DVD although it's floating out there on torrents.

Quoteit wasn't that bizarre, but deeply satisfying and absolutely cathartic. Even Dale threw a bottle. It was a good time.

I asked myself that when I first listened to it.
I dunno, I always knew it was out there and I didnt think about it too much. I would always hear people say great things about it but I guess its this thread/ interview that gave me the extra motivation to actually go and buy it. got it on amazon for dirt cheap... something like a 1.50 or something.
