that's why they put up test pressings on ebay and they sell for a shit load...it's great free advertising
for the releases and keeps interest in the release (& the Melvins) steady while they get the next
release ready. It's all about keeping 100% interest from the fans all the time, as well as generating
new interest and new fans.

i'm not being "pissy" as you call it. I think what you do is perfectly fine. I'm not a collector but I understand their nature. I bought the new album TBSM on CD for $13.00. I don't care about vinyl or the artwork. It will always be about the music. If I want to see art, I'll go to a museum. I think its cool you make money.
I think its ridiculous to pay the amounts some do for a limited edition album personally, but if people are willing to pay it, congratulations! The DVD thing was purely in jest.
If people have this kind of money to spend, I don't understand why people commit crime by illegally downloading their albums to the point where the very future of the way music is brought to us is in trouble.

Of course that would be worth $12.98, but sort of disappointing. Was hoping for some live updated Stoner Witch, Lysol, or Eggnog on official CD and/or BSM tracks. Way too similar to Pick Your Battles tracklist if that's the case. In fact I call bullshit on the tracklist. There would have to be some BSM tracks on it.

There must be something special about this gig to have them release it on CD. Seems odd that they'd make a regular CD release out of a gig two tours old over say a show from last year with newer material on it. Regardless, it will kick ass.
Especially being the first real mastered live pro recording in 25 years. (Your choice, fucker and houdini doesn't really count in this regard).

It's also surprising that they are releasing this as a CD for retail through Ipecac. Buzz recently faced the facts and said that CDs are to the point of diminishing returns. They don't make that much money off of them anymore, thanks to the downloading masses. They'd probably make more money if they pressed only a thousand on vinyl, and sold them for $25 a pop like "The End". I'm glad they're still giving us regular CD releases though. I prefer that over the limited stuff which is also great in small doses, depending on what it is.
I can't wait for this to drop but I definitely hope that Sugar Daddy isn't that "one more" CD he was referring to. That would be very disappointing.

As cool a release as Pick Your Battles was, it sort of annoyed me that the '08 portion was cut up to only a half-dozen songs. Will be great hearing that whole set from start to finish in A+ sound quality.

mmm there are no songs from TBSM and the tracklist is similar in a way to the second part of Pick Your Battles, I don't know but it seems to be sort of a consolation prize for the people who couldn't grab a copy of Pick Your Battles.

The clips do sound great but there are a lot of odd decisions they made with this album. Oh well. I guess it's less confusing than Alive at the Fucker Club.

They have all the latest hipster bullshit, and some standard punk/metal stuff, but last I checked they barely had a Melvins section, so I can't support them. :D Plus with the price of gas, why drive when I can have it delivered to my house?

The 13 songs on Sugar Daddy Live, while recorded at an undisclosed time, seems to predate the Melvins' most recent studio full-length, The Bride Screamed Murder, which was a bit of a mixed bag. Instead, the band kicks off the show with three punchy songs from 2008's Nude with Boots, sticking to recent material for most of the setlist. "Civilized Worm," from 2006's utterly fantastic A Senile Animal, is an early highlight, its lockstep rhythm and easy-to-shout-along-to verses suiting the Melvins' playing

Got it today at a place not of my choice, but of will. If two's to Tango and Threesome's a crowd, then this foursome is a straight gangbang on your ears! And like real americans, they stop to sing The Star Spangled Banner before a brutal, lengthy finish that ends in a meandering of beligerent banter and other penetrating double-drum dirges. In short, it's wonderful and there's just enough old stuff reimbursed to wet ya.
I love the new Tipping The Lion and general lack of old tracks.... It's a fun live album overall. Good listening!

showing when the songs were played/recorded of
if this was from one show (doesn't sound like it though).
I downloaded it from emusic and the only thing I get are the
mp3 files and cover art. Is there anything else, info wise?
Why did they cut out Honey Bucket? Was it played too sloppily during the show or something? Or maybe it wasn't even played that night? I dunno
Anyways, I'll still buy this live disc, and it's good to finally have a new crisp-sounding recording.

Got it today and had another listen through. Funny how the end drum outro of Dog Island is actually tracked as the start of song 3 since it blends into the opening of Dies Iraea. Strange too that the album booklet features photos of the band performing at the totally unrelated January Residency gigs too! Anyway a couple of questions tho! Who is it that says "get out of my personal space" towards the end of Boris? Jared perhaps??? Plus dont know if any of you have noticed this but the album doesn't seem to flow correctly between the songs even though one song was probably played right after the previous one in the set. To my ears, i notice a brief little pause or jump to the next song between each track as though it was mixed seperately or was compiled and edited from various shows rather than one seamless gig.

There is no Busta Guts club. I think you're right, it probably was recorded in different places.
Picked this up today... great live mix, loving each drummer in opposite ears. The only bitch I have is that CDs can't reproduce the sheer volume of the live set... but that is strictly a technology issue, nothing to do with the band. Overall, very satisfied for the $12.99 at FYE. Oddly, it makes me want to crank COD directly after listening to it, maybe to make up for the volume/mass issue stated above. Anyone else get that urge? Can't wait for the next studio album :cheers:

I'm really happy with it. The version of Boris is amazing.. and I really dig the version of Tipping The Lion.

Let's list the wide-release live albums and discuss their flaws:
1991/1994 (NO ONE REALLY KNOWS FOR SURE) Your Choice Live Series 012 - Officially sanctioned half-hour German club show on a charity record label that don't make pelvises move. The band said ok knowing it was just ok.
1998 Alive at the Fucker Club - Bootleg quality live ep
2001 Colossus of Destiny - Avant-garde electro-acoustic live noise into Eye Flies
2002 - Millennium Monsterwork 2000 - Fantomas/Melvins BigBand BS

"I was depressed and borderline suicidal until I heard the Melvins so I could go as far as saying that they saved my life. 6 years later Sugar Daddy gives me that euphoric feeling that I got the first time I heard them. All of these songs sound better than the original studio versions and the lack of older tracks remind me that they are a very contemporary band. They are always looking forward while the older tracks sound as fresh as ever. The Melvins haven't peaked and I look forward to hearing their best album in the future!"

I think it's a great rockin' set for a regular CD release. I agree with Mark that some songs sound better in the studio like Dog Island, & Dies Iraea, but they still deliver. Boris is great up until the end where they drag it out, with the noises and shit.
I still think a show from the '09 tour w/ Down would have made a better album. You had the awesome Devo cover (Mr. DNA), Zodiac, and The Smiling Cobra all in there.

I agree. When I saw them open for Down they completely blew them off the stage. In regards to the version of Boris on Sugar Daddy. I personally love that version with all the noise and weirdness they brought to it. It is one of my favorite Melvins songs but it was nice to see them change it up a bit.
having to hear crover from your right speaker is always cruel,besides that sugar daddy is a solid live album which gives a good picture of the melvins/bb incarnation.

:D Granted, I still don't have Your Choice live series, but I love Sugar Daddy and I've listened to it a lot. Great performances, and sound quality, relatively long running length, killer versions of Boris, Eye Flys, Dog Island, A History Of Bad Men, The Star Spangled Banner (still cracks me up), Tipping The Lion, The Kicking Machine, etc. What don't you like about it?

I thought I posted this already, but I guess I didn't. I listened to the Sugar Daddy songs vs the studio recordings back to back.
Nude w/ Boots Drum and feedback as intro. Faster. Fiercer. More Buzz vocal.
Dog Island Condensed arrangement.
Dies Iraea No whistling or melodica or whatever that signature lead sound was. More guitar in the mix playing the lead.
Civilized Worm Feel of the intro changed slightly. More Buzz vocal. Second half of the song is more aggressive. Different drum outro/ending.
Kicking Machine All I can say is it feels funkier even though the arrangement sounds the same.
Eye Flys Awesome seven minute intro. Brotastic vocals.
Tipping the Lion Distorted bassline. More aggressive. New drum outro.
Rat Faced Granny Perhaps a bit faster?
The Hawk Drum solo slows down. More Buzz vocal.
You've Never Been Right No significant variation noticed.
A History of Bad Men Totally different outro. Gang vocals.
Boris Slower, longer, dynamic. Gang vocals on the last verse that go almost a cappella.
This exercise was very rewarding and I recommend it to any other fan. Big takeaways are really getting to hear more of Buzz's voice on these songs, faster, more aggressive performances, vocals are belted out instead of whispered, and many of the intro/outro/transitions are very cool. The few old songs are the only ones drastically different from the studio recordings.
This must be one of the Melvins releases that gets overlooked or forgotten about the most! It's a great live document too. I wish they put out more live albums.
Dang, re-listening. I miss this band.
The way they transitioned between parts of a song that might not share tempos, rhythms, or even musical key was so seamless. "Dog Island" and "Civilized Worm" are great examples.
Been listening to this after the news of Coady playing with Dale again. such a killer live album, a bit underrated maybe?

I listened to it again last night too because they put The Hawk on FB! I concur it's a great album, but then i always really liked it. My only dislike is hearing the American anthem towards the end. I wish they would put out more live albums like this one.
