Title: Melvins live albums (who's getting tired of them?)
Post by: the bloat on February 27, 2011, 11:40:30 PM
It seems like they just released the Manchild disc with many of the same tunes that we are to hear on Sugar Daddy. On top of that, we already have an abundance of live recordings from every era of Melvins. From Your Choice Live to Tora Tora Tora to the End, Live at Slim's and the exhausting Melvins vs. Minneapolis set.

Is this really what the world needs? Seems like a cash grab. I mean, shit, throw some covers on there, some obscure B-side stuff, since the only people that buy Melvins records are us, why not appease your fan base?

Has this already been mentioned in another thread? Seems kinda obvious.

Fair point to be sure.

If you don't want it, don't buy it. It's not rocket science.

You're missing his point, thrashoholic.  A live album from two years ago?   With songs that have already been released?  YAWN.

I can see everyone's point but come on its Melvins people! Two years ago, four years ago, fifteen years ago who cares when they're from it'll be great regardless. Unless that is it turns out to not be of course!  :? Personally i want MORE live releases!!!!!!

Being a relatively new melvins fan), were there jaded fans back in the 90s even?

aaah, the 90s. the decade that started with released like bullhead, lysol, eggnog, the solo ep's.. and that's still only '92..

i dont know but i think there were less. but they did exist, yes, also back then, i'm sure... you know, people who had read all about them and had already made up their mind and decided they'd embrace this band with as much love as the rest of the seattly bands... they sure did come home from a cold circus, to use another expression sans sense..

I'm not tired of the live albums at all.  Most of those live releases you mentioned are limited collectors type stuff.  This is only the 3rd proper "live album" in 25 years (and the Live Houdini thing almost doesn't count at that).  If anything, I'd like them to release more. I'd like them to roll Stones style and do a live album every tour. At least one for every line up.

I was hopin' this would be a double.

Like someone else said, if you don't want it you don't have to buy it.

Seriously?

I think it might be cool to take all the bootlegs / proper live recordings you can find and compile all the albums with their correct track listing, cobbling together live takes from different venues and different dates. I think it would sound cool. I wonder if there are any Melvins songs (barring rarities or B-sides) that have never been played live?

Anyone know?

I'm pretty excited to hear this. Yes some of these songs are on the second half of "Pick Your Battles.." - Same tour Yes.. But this is a full Live set from the current lineup. Which as far as I know, we haven't gotten a proper release of yet. We all have tons of bootlegs I'm sure.. This is going to sound much better. Can't wait!  :D

yeah, im not huge on live albums... history of gluttony and lust was amazing though.  too bad they didnt go in that sort of direction, but I can see why they wouldnt. I thought the manchild stuff wasnt really released by the band.

Yeah, there's some:
A Vast Filthy Prison is the only song off A Senile Animal they haven't played live. They haven't played the last four songs off Nude With Boots live (not that Flush is really playable...), or I'll Finish You Off, Hospital Up, Inhumanity and Death, and P.G. x 3 off Bride. Most of Honky hasn't been played live which is understandable. Songs like Hide and Yacobs Lab have probably never been played live and were probably never intended to be. I've never heard live versions of Judy, The Horn Bearer, Pink Bat, Safety Third, etc.

Personally, I'd really like see them do In the Freaktose the Bugs are Dying, The Horn Bearer, A Vast Filthy Prison, and Hospital Up live

Whatever. The Melvins can and will release whatever they can and want.

If one is not happy about that, you do not have to purchase and there are a ton of other bands out there that might do your bidding.

Still not good enough? Start your own band then.

I hear they're going to sprinkle pubes and belly button lint into a select few copies so that the fanboys will have something to munch upon.
Mmmmm, num-nums.

the Melvins put out an album of new material every year.  not to mention special edition singles, remixes, the list goes on and on.  and your bitching about this?  c'mon they give us PLENTY.

I will continue to buy whatever they put out regardless of what songs are on it. I have a bunch of bootleg live shows and a lot of them have the same songs, but it is always interesting to hear Buzz talk to the crowd. Plus, on one live show I have(can't remember which), they pull some kid out of the audience to do 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' and he just mumbles his way through it singing nonsense. Who knows what kind of shit Buzz might talk on this one.

I don't know but since I've joined I've heard a ton of bitching about every release.

Seig Howdy - They need to fire Jello!
Houdini Live 2005 - The original is better!  They need to fire Toshi!  Trevor's bass tone sounds watery!  They need to fire Trevor!
ASA - Although the least amount of bitching there was still a little bit.
NWB- It sounds like the exact same album as the last one ()!,  They need to fire Jared and Coady!  They need to fire Toshi!
TBSM- They need to fire Jared and Coady!  They need to do more doom songs because Mechanical Bride and Dog Island isn't enough!  They need to hire Trevor!

Maybe there was just as much bitching in the 90's but there was no forum to document it.

I totally remember people being pissed every time there was a new bass player. I remember people being pissed when they signed to Atlantic. I remember people being pissed that they released the AmRep Singles CD after they collected all of the 7"s.

For that matter, I remember in the 80's people being pissed that they broke up then got back together without Matt and moved to SF.

As long as there are Melvins there will be unhappy Melvins fans.

Just remember, kids, it's better to be unhappy about something the Melvins have done, than to be unhappy about something they haven't done. And by the way, if you see your mom this weekend, be sure and tell her......SANTA! SANTA! SANTA!

I want a full live album for each song, you know, with 10 to 12 live tracks of that one song on each record.
