Title: BOSTON RESIDENCY SHOWS
Post by: moose on May 16, 2011, 05:13:39 PM
Anyone going to these? From the reviews, it sounds as though there won't be any box sets left for sale the second night. Anybody going feel like grabbing an extra and meeting up the second night?

Box seats @ The Paradise? Didn't know there were any, always GA when I've been there. I've got an extra ticket for both nights if anyone is looking.

I filmed from the balcony when I was there.  I don't seem to recall there being any problems.  Try to get in early and get a good spot next to the wall up top.  It's a great view.

they've modified the club since the last show...took out the mezzanine 'booths' cleared out the bar to your left as you entered the main room, and now it's all open space beneath the balcony. they also shifted the stage towards the Comm Ave side of the building, so the support pole isn't directly in front of the stage. they're still there and couldn't be removed, but they are off at angles relative to the stage now.

Nice!.. Yeah, I remember when they played with Isis, there was stuff posted about them closing for renovations. I'll be going to the NY shows this time. Mainly cause of what days of the week the shows fall on.

A guy can't have two copies? I have both versions of Melvins vs Minneapolis so why not? Maybe I will trade it to a board member who didn't get one and doesn't want to pay inflated EBay prices.

Is the Molly Osborne version of BSM vinyl the only one they are selling on tour? I wouldn't mind having  a copy of it, plus any others that might be available at the shows.

Since when is it any of your business what I buy and where I post about it? What are you? The fucking Melvins merchandise police? From what I have heard on here, you stole pinkyslim's husbands username and identity. So speaking of "things that make you go hm". Perhaps you ought to try  minding your own goddamn business and not be so concerned about what other people are buying. If that doesn't work, you might try getting a life of your own, I hear they are selling those at the Residency shows in a limited number of 50 as well.

Title: Re: BOSTON RESIDENCY SHOWS
Post by: andy the angry bald man on June 04, 2011, 10:18:55 AM
i can honestly say that last night was the best melvins show i've ever seen.  i knew it'd be good, but FUCK!  they were great!!  here's hoping tonight garners the same reaction.

the paradise's "no moshing/crowd surfing" policy is a wicked buzzkill, though.  as soon as people started moving around security crawled out of the woodwork and started running all over the stage to stop people.  lame.

merch was good, i grabbed the two tour shirts, a bride LP and a residency box set (i was the first person in the club, yet somehow i got #6/50) ... i decided that $25 was a bit too much for a 7" .. and i didn't see any the tri-color ones, but i guess i might have missed them.  oh, and i'm pretty sure haze overcharged me, but i didn't realize it til later.  oh well.

hail melvins!

oh, and i saw tapers...  SHOW YOURSELVES!

The first night was incredible.  They are really on top of their game.  I noticed that at least the first set was a bit shorter, no "Eye's Flies" like there is on the "Residency" CD set.   No "Star Spangled Banner" either.  My guess is that they mix it up a little bit from town to town.  To say this was a bummer though would be extreme nitpicking.  I loved the show.  Can't wait to go back tonight!!

The Melvins are the toughest band to shoot...no photo pit, two massive drum kits, and very dark stage lighting. I'm glad that Jared came over at the very end of the show or i wouldn't have gotten anything of him. And I'm glad i withstood the crush the crowd and stage edge/testicle mashing to stay up front until the end.

By the way, that picture of Jared is awesome! He was really funny and animated by the end of the show, picking up drumsticks and hitting various cymbals and the tambourine on Coady's hi hat cymbal. He then did some chant thing in Buzz's microphone.

It was a fucking great show. Third time seeing the Melvins and as usual they were incredible.

Here's the setlist of  the first night in Boston:

1.   Charmicarmicat
2.   Hung Bunny
3.   Roman Dog Bird

6.   Wispy
7.   With Teeth
8.   Second Coming
9.   The Ballad Of Dwight Frye
10.   Sacrifice
Intermission
11.   Hag Me

13.   Hooch
14.   Honey Bucket
15.   Night Goat

19.   Set Me Straight/ DCH
20.   Sky Pup

Night two was just as amazing. I was up right in front of Buzz throughout the whole show, which was amazing. Ligature, Goose Freight Train, and At The Stake are really great live. All of the songs are. Does anyone else feel Lividity is really cool live as well? I like how Dale and Coady turn off their snares for that song

Tinnitus, your photos are definitely incredible.  I visited your website.  Kudos.

Thank you, to my other homie, for the set lists that you provided.

Lots of talk about people capturing video and audio of these shows.  Please contact me and let me know how I can get ahold of some of that.

BTW.  Is Buzz really tall?  He seemed it when I was looking at him on stage but maybe it's just an optical illusion, or the fro.

Perhaps a combination of the two, plus the fact that he's elevated above you on stage helps to explain matters. Hence the impression of a giant Buzzo!

Maybe around 6' without the boots, give or take a couple of inches.

If Dale had Buzzo's fro and Buzzo had Dale's hair........could we tell the difference? It seems they've spent so long together that they've kind of turned into each other apart from the hair.

No, I didn't even see that happen, i was so dizzy and out of it. I bet it was the rancid smelling drunk cunt who didn't even know any of their songs who pushed her corpulent ass in front of me, effectively blocking my view.

I went to both shows. The first night I got myself on the balcony on the left side. I was able to film some of the songs and posted them on youtube. The second night, my plan was to be in the same spot as the night before. But when I showed up, some of the balcony areas were blocked off for 'reserve.' So I ended up on the floor and down near the front, about 6 feet away from the stage. But that changed and I ended up pinned to the edge of the stage and between both Dale and Coady's bass drums for most of the show. Still, I was able to film some songs and put them on youtube (I have 12 videos posted for both nights). It was pretty cool being stuck there, listening to the entire "Stoner Witch" album being played all the way thru. And I did show up a hour early and got #3/50 of the Endless Residency cds. All in all, the MELVINS were great both nights.
