The best of Melvins merchandise can be found here for those that can't make the show.
http://shop.ebay.com/holdendiane/m.html?_dmd=1&_ipg=50&_sop=12&_rdc=1 (http://shop.ebay.com/holdendiane/m.html?_dmd=1&_ipg=50&_sop=12&_rdc=1)

This way true fans don't have to go to the show to get their records.  Creep.

i agree thats why when i was the first to see the thread on amrep i decided not to get another copy to flip and instead leave them for other people to have the chance. ive got one copy for myself and thats all i need.
pinkys ebay feedback shows 3 sold already, and the one she sold me makes 4 and she must have a personal copy so 5 already, thats a scumbag.

I wouldn't call her a scumbag. I think she is just a good capitalist that is providing a service that people obviously want.

but then people wouldnt need the service if people like her didnt buy up all the stock first. its the same with ticket touts, its not really a service they are providing because had they not mass purchased all the tickets there would have been enough to buy one from the ticket company direct. the reason she is worse than most is because not only does she have no shame but she even braggs and rubs peoples faces in it.
but it backfires on her as i know quite a few people that wont even bid on her auctions and if she didnt piss so many people off she would have good custom. if she wasnt such an ass about things she would have seen more of my money but she tried to charge $500 for the cd boxset and then call me a fag for saying i wasnt interested in being raped by her.

The truth is that is a great way of making money providing a service. She has a way of getting these CDs and takes advantage of the opportunity, there's nothing wrong with that. She's into making money and I am sure you all are into the same thing. If you don't want to support her, don't buy from her, but I am sure there are many people that will (or had in the past).

I think the Melvins should think a way of selling these things directly to fans online through some kind of pre-order thing, as some have said before. Selling these things only at shows or at really small amounts (15 or so) online, will guarantee that some of these CDs will end up selling in Ebay at high prices. It's cool that the Melvins make money off these CDs by selling to whoever gets the chance, but I would appreciate a little more concern for the hardcore fans.

"Selling these things only at shows or at really small amounts (15 or so) online, will guarantee that some of these CDs will end up selling in Ebay at high prices."

True, and it also keeps people talking about it, and keeps people watching the net for news about the band, and basically keeps interest going at all times. The band knows it, it makes great business sense without the band (possibly) losing money using mass production.

I would call it profiteering.

Look, a lot of us have bought multiples of something rare and desireable with the idea of keeping one and selling one to cover costs.  Going to a show and buying a half dozen copies with the sole purpose of selling them on ebay at 200% profit is shady at best.  Creating multiple user names at the AmRep board for the purpose of getting in on the "only available to boardies" merch. just to sell them on ebay for 200% profit is down right rotten.  And like it has been said, she goes out of her way to let everyone know shes doing it, thats being a cunt.

Sorry for being "a ass".  I'm just interested in this "debate" but tire of the pedantry and the concern for merely appearing to care about truth (i.e., bullshit).

There's a lot of arbitrary moralizing and rationalizing going on here.  Why the moral line drawn between "buying multiple copies to sell in order to pay for one's own copy" and creative multiple identities?  PinkySlim rationalizes her behavior in the same way as most people here do:  "I do it, it's okay, lots of other people do it, that's American capitalism!  Yeah!".  First, it isn't capitalism.  And, just because something is doesn't necessarily make it good (naturalistic fallacy).  Second, just because lots of people do it doesn't make it right or excusable (ad populum).  Pointing at more "extreme" examples doesn't minimize the moral responsibility you might bear for doing what you do (red herring) either.

I'm not saying that I agree or disagree with any of the moral positions of what's right that anyone has expressed here at all.  I'm just saying that no one here seems willing to explain their position with good reason.

You took a lot of time to ramble on about .. nothing.   You haven't added anything to this thread, other than pointing out what capitalism is not, and a minor grammatical error.   You appear rather dense and condescending when you miss what people are saying, and nitpick with the literal meanings of certain words, without taking a position one way or the other.  Yes, it is understood that buying multiple copies of limited records only to flip them immediately is not capitalism- you've said it two or three times, and no one is disagreeing.  The point is, it rubs people the wrong way when one person buys multiple copies, only to resell them, and then comes her and acts like a dick about it.

No one really cares if you buy melvins cds and resell them; it's legal.  You just don't have to be an asshole and come here only to rub it in other fans faces, who for one reason or another couldn't buy one at cost.

Let me put it in terms we can all understand...drug talk.  When you buy a half ounce of smoke for $50 it's understood you're going to sell a quarter to your bud for $30.  They get what they want, you get your quarter cheaper  because you made the call and you met the dude.  If you go out and buy all the smoke in town and start charging four times normal price you're going to piss people off.  Especially if you're talking shit the whole time you're doing it.

Zoiks!  Relax!  I'm not nitpicking, I'm trying to understand...hence not taking a position.  It's called reason.  Settle down!

I haven't missed what people are saying considering it amounts to zilch.  People are making arguments to justify what they do.  I'm interested in this.  I just would like to see better arguments for it, but I'm not the one making them, I'm trying to understand them.  It'd be nice to do that without being called names.

Yeah, it's upsetting to have people rub it in your face.  But the question is whether or not their actions which they are celebrating are justified.  People express their position here without justification and then people say "I agree" or "I disagree".  In the latter case, they express a different position but never justify it beyond the level I've pointed out.  If that counts as "a ramble", then egads.  If I've added anything, it's a demand for better reasons.

Zoiks!

If I've added anything, it's a demand for better reasons.

calmer than you dude.

I agree w/ Charles Bukowski in that..

It's not that I do not like you or your false allegations..

I stand for freedom.

I agree w/ Charles Bukowski in that..

It's not that I do not like you or your false allegations..

People here make enemies of their potential allies before even realizing they are allies.  And all it took was a few words.  Zoiks was an understatement.

Okay, so you buy more than you "need" in order to have more negotiating power over items' worth than you would otherwise. If more were available others would be able to spend significantly less on them.  Of course, they don't have to buy them etc. etc.  But, if more were available, they'd be cheaper than buying them from you since you've created a context where people are more willing to spend more.

"Standing for freedom" doesn't mean anything.  So, you put your child through school.  That's a decent reason.  You want to ensure your offspring's well-being at the cost of others who are willing to purchase pieces of plastic at retardedly inflated prices.  You're happy, they're happy.  What's the problem then?

Well, others might not think it's worth their having to pay more in order to get a copy of something.  So, they don't have to buy it.  No, but that's not why they're upset.  They're upset because you and others like you have changed the rules of the game they wish to play.  It's called an externality--a by-product of your transaction.

See, I don't actually disagree with your position PinkySlim.  It's just that I've learned that anyone who talks as much shit as you do, responds with things like "fag, vagina, cock, etc.", is obsessed with their own body image, doesn't have the brains to actually think about what it is that they're doing beyond their own interests.

As an actual American, I think bastardizing terms like "freedom" or "capitalism"  by using them synonymously with greed and maximizing one's own gain by changing the nature of the game is an insult to my country and economic system.

Jeez dude. You tell me to "Read a Book" and then you want to cry if someone calls you a name. Seriously - who cares? You are on the Melvins board to see "better arguments so that you can understand them"....blah blah blah - it's fucking music dude. Since you obviously work with "reason" - how is it that you actually think your demand for "better reasons" is at all reasonable?

Seriously, go start a "I want to have highly intellectual discussions about the Melvins board" and go on with your bad self. I am sure you will be a hit.

You actually have the energy and time to care about an insult to your country and economic system? Get a life brother. I think America will hold up just fine without you having to get so emotionally involved.

Goodness this thread got pretty interesting real quick. The factors involved are fairly thought provoking too. There's not gonna be an agreed upon conclusion here of course but both sides do make compelling reasoning.

Pinky don't care, pinky don't give a shit!

You are just adding a cherry on top of the situation by getting upset about how she conducts business.  Just don't buy her shit. Plain and simple. If you really want to get upset at someone then let it be the melvins for letting her have the opportunity to buy so much to begin with.

BTW I thought the AmRep people couldn't spell, but the CD cover is indeed titled "honley!" - I wonder if this s an intentional error or a fuckup?

Honkey.  Amrep is notorious for spelling errors.
