Title: August 28th, 2004 @ the Boardwalk
Post by: Michael on August 29, 2004, 05:25:54 PM
First of all the set:

Let It All Be
Tipping The Lion
I Want To Hold Your Hand (Beatles cover)
Toadi Acceleratio
Queen
Bar-X-the Rocking M
The Bloated Pope
The Fool, The Meddling Idiot
Pigs of the Roman Empire
Manky
Safety Third
The Bloat
Skweetis
Night Goat
Black Stooges

I am not certain of the order, I was too busy standing in awe.  This is my 22nd Melvins show in 5 years and I am still astounded every time I see them.  Kevin had a giant windchime hanging from a mic stand that he hit with a mallet during Pigs of the Roman Empire (which was epic and far more powerful than the album version).  All the new songs sounded great and I was glad to hear Bar X in the set.  The Beatles cover was amazing.  No Lustmord nor Jello on stage which means if the rumors are true, the Melvins will be touring again this year after Never Breathe... comes out.

They had a bunch of stuff for sale this time, bring lots of cash when you see them.  They had the 20 year anniversary shirt (dog shitting), Happy Halloween Bitch shirt (in both black and white) and the Kisscateer shirt.  As for vinyl they had the Revolve/With Teeth 7", the H.A.T. 7"s and a few scant copies of the trilogy going for $100.  Neither Here Nor There softcover book.  A really cool button set for $10.  The most recent CDs were available including Pigs..., Elecrtroretard, Big Band and H.A.T. (which came with this rad Melvins Trick and Riddle minibook that you could not buy separately).

Better than the Beatles...

Fuck, this is so cool! They debuted 4 Pigs songs:

The Bloated Pope
Toadi Acceleratio
Pigs Of The Roman Empire
Safety Third

Ausome! :D It's amazing that they played the title track. :) Hopefully they will play stuff earlier than 1993.

Man, I wish I could see the Melvins. Why don't they come to western New York? Rochester, Buffallo, Albany, Syracuse... New York City is like 6 hours away. I tryed to convince my parents to take me to the Clevand show, but I don't think it's gonna happen, unless they're secretly surprising me or something (one can only hope :P ).

And they did I Want To Hold Your Hand by the Beatles! That's cool! :D
Do the Melvins ever do show these days, withought playing Night Goat?

I know Beto, it sucks; I shouldn't be complaining. Melvins have to go to South America someday, particulary Brazil. And while they're at it, they could play At A Crawl down there.

No I did not record it.

Someone was to my right, sitting on the edge of the stage taking photos.  Maybe if he reads this message board he will post them.  The boys were wearing their new fall line of moo-moo's....

Awesome. Hope they add some Bullhead & Lysol songs by the time they hit Cleveland. Cool that they're doing more from Stag though, I don't think they did any when I saw them last year.

My Pigs CD should arrive any day now. Is Trevor's new CD for sale at the show too? I pretty much have everything other than the shirts that the Melvins are selling. It'll either be the Kisscateer or the dogshit one. Please tell me they're still $15 so I can buy two.

Was their set the usual ninety minutes? Looks a bit longer from that set list.

Reading the review of Salt Lake City reminded me that they also played Lovely Butterflies in Orangevale.  No With Teeth though which surprised me because I think they have played it at every show I have been to before this one.

There is a thread in the general discussion about how they are pulling the Pigs stuff off live without Adam Jones/Lustmord/Etc. (i.e. keyboards or triggered samples) and frankly they are just playing it in the ear splitting three piece ensemble with no help needed.

Besides that windchime.....

Yes, Dale did the horn line on Bar X.  Just like on Alive at the Fucker Club.  Kevin came in at the end of each line.

The solo was perfect.
