Title: Melvins collaborations you would like to hear?
Post by: EvilNewWarGod on June 03, 2012, 12:26:36 PM
After watching the greatness that is Psychic TV last night, I was thinking it would be pretty fucking awesome if Melvins would collaborate with Genesis P-Orridge by him/herself or Psychic TV as a whole band or possibly Boyd Rice from NON. Is there any band or musician in particular you would like to hear a collaboration with? PTV seems natural since Melvins already played on the Throbbing Gristle tribute.

I'd always hoped they would recruit Hank III again and do a full blown Western/Saloon/Country album.

Either that or get a bunch of vocalists to sing old honky tonk songs while Melvins did the back drop music. Something of the nature.

Yeah, that'd certainly be the best, freshest, and most entertaining thing NMN has done in at least a decade ... maybe even since the Andy Kerr days.

World imploding ... errr, I donno 'bout that ... sounds tantalizing to say the least; though I'm sure if it woulda gone down say 20 yrs. ago ... well than yeah, we wouldn't be talking here ... cause the world would have imploded ... or maybe exploded ... who knows?

I would go see it.  I've often wondered if these two bands have crossed paths/played shows together.  I saw Nomeansno in 2003/4 and they were amazing. :D

I would be very interested in hearing what that could produce.
Something in the vein of POTRE I imagine which I've been getting into a lot more of lately...and Honky.
I'm a slow learner I guess.

I think Melvins should collaborate with everyone mentioned...at the same time.

Thought I just had, though this may have been covered before:

What if The Melvins backed Iggy Pop for a live set? They are huge fans and they are one of the few bands that could pull it off (the Jelvins are a personal favorite of mine). Imagine Buzz and Dale and maybe Pinkus backing Iggy on TV eye...

Why? The revamped Stooges did their thing w/ Ron on lead guitar, then after he died there was the Raw Power/Williamson shows with Mike Watt being the anchor in both lineups. Now we have this year's touring lineup with the QOTSA guys playing the new album and a lot of Lust For Life & The Idiot material. There's nothing more Iggy needs to do, and I highly doubt he'd feel the need to play a show with Melvins, as great as this might be on paper.

Both have played in other outfits here and there over the years ... Dale more so? I think maybe Dale's have been a little more "collaborative" also ... not like say Fantomas. Was just listening to Dirty Three and it dawned me ... Damn! Jim White and Buzz! Jim's style I think would superbly foil Buzz's writing and playing. Very drawn out and spacious much like early Melvins ... but with a whole other tone and timbre/style of attack and finesse than Dale ... a tone, timbre, attack, and finesse I think would totally marry with Buzz's slower, crawling style songs ... so yeah, that'd be bright lights, big city Bonerville for sure!
