I'm going to start putting up a different Preston mp3 each week.
I've decided to start with one from the Men's Recovery Project
CD 'Resist the New Way' since it was an overlooked band/release.
The song is called "New Talking Sausages"

ROMAN DOG BIRD
/end of thread
Don't worry! I'll get to that one eventually. I'm just
going to start with MRP, and Thrones releases first.
Then work toward the more well-known stuff.
Thanks for the suggestion. :o
Post up those demos he sent you Conda! Don't keep us in suspense!
if i could be 100% positive it was the real Joe I would.
But, it's been going on almost 8 months since the last
time i emailed and i've gotten no reply one way or the other.
:(
hes not mailing me anymore either, but i think hes got other stuff on his mind...
yes hard drugs.

Phew. There's a LOT to choose from. Joe has to be one of the hardest working men of rock'n'roll.

Didn't know that one. Reminded me of Residents.
Does anybody have the WHIP live show that was on the original ftp server? I lost mine and I miss it!!! Please post it again.
please tell me about this WHIP show. i picked it up on slsk the other day.
Joe's a pretty popular guy round these parts.
And this song sounds like a midi until Joe get's a singin.
To complement the MP3, here's a piccie of Joe I found on the Southern Lord board. Probably the best pic I've ever seen of the man...
Great picture! Haven't seen that one before. Where did you find it (link)?
As I say, it's from the Southern Lord forum, although it's apparently from some Zine called Vice from '94 or so...
what an awesome pic! thanks for sharing rev
I've got two Joe Preston mp3s for you this week.
These songs come from the Thrones album "Alraune"
This CD came out on the Communion label and isn't
quite as well-known as the Sperm Whale CD, but is
just as good.

p.s. 'Googander' is a 20+ minute track so be patient
when d/ling it. enjoy!
Anaconda... I love you.
Aww shucks, thanks man. i'm just doing my part for Joe's Army. :P
I can't find this stuff anywhere and you supply it to me.
Googander is one of the most amazing songs ever. Period. That whole bit where it changes into the whole organ-and-samples bit makes the hairs on the neck stand to attention.
Hey, 'Conda, I DLed two Thrones MP3s named Side 1 and Side 2 from Slsk a little while back and neither of the tracks appear on Sperm Whale or Alraune. They're both about 20 mins long but unless some of the Thrones 7"s are like 12RPM, I'm guessing it's not them either. Any idea which release(es) they might be from?
Hmmmm, I'd have to hear them. PM me for my details, maybe
we can put them up here next week?

Is one quite a 'rockish' track? If so it's probably the Young Suckling 7"
yes! you could be right Louis, it's probably that or the Reddleman/Algon 7"
thats the only 7" singles i'm aware of that have Thrones on both sides.
That is the Thrones PNMV Cassette Tape that came out on the PUNK IN MY VITAMINS? RECORDS. It had no track list but I can tell you that the last part of side 2 is the song SENEX.
Yes indeed, that does sound like the PNMV cassette. When Joe was asked about the song titles he replied: "Song titles are on a need-to-know basis and no one needs to know."
But the last song is definately SENEX.
Come to think of it: Parts of Pigs of the Roman Empire reminds me of both Alraune and the PNMV cassette. Which is not a bad thing at all. But don't tell Buzz I said so.
great ide anakunda!

Ladies and Genitalmen I have two more joe extravaganzas this week!
The first tune is a Men's Recovery Project song called;
"Awful People in the Empty City"
http://lazerman.netomia.dk/MRP_Awful_People.mp3
the second beaut' is another Thrones mindbomb from the Alraune CD,
a track called "Buio Omega"
http://lazerman.netomia.dk/Buio_Omega.mp3
:P
I did not know that Joe Preston was responsible for such excellent music! Man - is it heavy on the bass end of things or what?
I have been listening to those first 2 songs that were posted - much rather listen to that than the new Melvins album - bluuurrrggg
thx anaconda
no prob!
Holy shit!
I'm listening to Googander right now, and it's REALLY cool! I'm almost 6 minutes into the song now. The other 2 minute Thrones song didn't impress me, but this one is. By the way, is their any guitar playing in the Thrones? Or is it all fuzzed up bass?
From what I understand he creates all the sounds live with a drum machine, programmed keys and live bass thru a variety of pedals.

Does Joe have some kind of pitchshifter or something like that on his bass to emulate a guitar? I mean, he used to use a double-necked guitar and bass...
Thanks again, Conda. I have Alraune and Sperm Whale but the MRP tracks are awesome. Joe would be proud of you, keep up the good work!
I'm listening to Buio Omega right now. Really cool.
After this, I'll download the Men Of Recovery songs.
Which Thrones album is better-Sperm Whale or Alraune?
Quote from: Metalhead CowWhich Thrones album is better-Sperm Whale or Alraune?
Personally I prefer Sperm Whale as it has more variety. A lot of people here probably won't agree with me. But Alraune is also a very worthy purchase, because I love all that drone stuff.
I like Sperm Whale more too... it's just a whole lot weirder and more interesting.
But all the Men's Recovery is awesome!
so i'm not wasting my time doing this? yay! validation haha
i wasn't sure about the MRP stuff but its so obscure i thought ya, post 'em
Sperm Whale is so majestic and heavy, its a real Thrones gem!
Plus it contains the White Rabbit EP, its a better buy. Both destroy though!
Quote from: anacondaso i'm not wasting my time doing this?
are you kidding me?
Quote from: anacondaso i'm not wasting my time doing this?
Not at all! I am enjoying the crap out of this special anaconda presentation :)
Thanks, I guess Sperm Whale will be first, eventually. :)
I'm sure that everyone here already has these, but I'm putting up
two tracks off the Joe Preston solo album this week. I would've put up
all 3 songs but the other one is a kid whining for their mommy over a
scratchy salsa record. Nothing too spectacular.
So anyways, without further ado, here are the songs 'Bricklebrit', and 'Hands First Flower':
http://lazerman.netomia.dk/Bricklebrit.mp3
http://lazerman.netomia.dk/Hands_First_Flower.mp3
thanks anaconda, i just started listening to the ones you just posted, as i cant find any of his solo works in stores that arent online.
that organic part in googander is just beatifuľ

you are an emotional guy! but it's true, you can tell
that joe is pouring his heart and soul into all the
music he makes no matter how whacked out he gets
at times.

Mens Recovery Project 7" that came out on KRS.

http://lazerman.netomia.dk/THRONES-white_rabbit/Obolus.mp3
http://lazerman.netomia.dk/THRONES-white_rabbit/Oracle_a_Dream.mp3
and next up, KARP!! Although Joe was never an official member of Karp,
he did produce some of their songs and later formed the Whip with
some of their members. Anyways I love Karp so DIG 'EM MAN!

Wow, dig that guitar/bass hybrid out. That is awesome! Where can you get one of those at? How much would one cost I wonder?
try...
www.gbase.com
but it's gonna cost ya round 5,000 cheapest.
This might be like looking a gift horse in the mouth, but.....
Can we get more Joe??
We like Joe....
Joe rocks....
I'd like to help you but I'm unable to.
When I conceived this topic it was supposed to be
a repository of all things Joe with contributions from
all of us, not just myself.
I give and I give. The only other stuff I have is vinyl 7" stuff
that will sound like shit if i dub them to the comp and make mp3s.
So I ask my friends here to contribute what the may have to this
fine topic. Long live Joey Joey Joe Joe, the J Man, the P to the reston.
Jizzle-oe, Pizzle-reston.
i love the pic
I wouldn't mind helping out, but I've never tried to put a file up for anyone to download from my computer before... I know that there are hosting sites, but I'm new to that also, any ideas or advice for a newbie file provider? Anaconda. what do you use for your file transfers and uploading?
I use my own server to store files and I use the FTP program
called Fetch to upload and download from it. If you have some
Joe stuff that I don't I'd be glad to host it for you. PM me for
details.

Has any body got a vinyl rip of Rush cover "The Tress" from the Day late LP they could post?
No vinyl rip here, but I have an interesting live version:
Thrones - The Trees (Rush cover) (http://thesickos.free.fr/THRONES-Trees.mp3)
so that Rush cover is only on the Day Late vinyl?

Yeah, it's not on the CD version. I wish it was though. The vinyl is all that I know of that has it.
on the cd there's another Rush cover though, the song is called Oracle and is from the album 2112

Possibly my favorite cover song, since I have still yet to hear Harvey Milk cover Hank Williams.
