Title: Joe Preston mp3 of the Week
Post by: anaconda on September 05, 2004, 12:26:56 PM
I'm going to start putting up a different Preston mp3 each week.
I've decided to start with one from the Men's Recovery Project
CD 'Resist the New Way' since it was an overlooked band/release.
The song is called "New Talking Sausages"

Don't worry! I'll get to that one eventually. I'm just
going to start with MRP, and Thrones releases first.
Then work toward the more well-known stuff.
Thanks for the suggestion. :o

Didn't know that one. Reminded me of Residents.

Does anybody have the WHIP live show that was on the original ftp server? I lost mine and I miss it!!! Please post it again.

I've got two Joe Preston mp3s for you this week.
These songs come from the Thrones album "Alraune"
This CD came out on the Communion label and isn't
quite as well-known as the Sperm Whale CD, but is
just as good.

Googander is one of the most amazing songs ever. Period. That whole bit where it changes into the whole organ-and-samples bit makes the hairs on the neck stand to attention.

Hey, 'Conda, I DLed two Thrones MP3s named Side 1 and Side 2 from Slsk a little while back and neither of the tracks appear on Sperm Whale or Alraune. They're both about 20 mins long but unless some of the Thrones 7"s are like 12RPM, I'm guessing it's not them either. Any idea which release(es) they might be from?

Is one quite a 'rockish' track? If so it's probably the Young Suckling 7"

yes! you could be right Louis, it's probably that or the Reddleman/Algon 7"
thats the only 7" singles i'm aware of that have Thrones on both sides.
Title: Thrones Cassette tape
Post by: Tyronehell on September 08, 2004, 07:29:02 PM
That is the Thrones PNMV Cassette Tape that came out on the PUNK IN MY VITAMINS? RECORDS. It had no track list but I can tell you that the last part of side 2 is the song SENEX.
Title: Joe Preston mp3 of the Week
Post by: Mesteren on September 09, 2004, 01:36:44 AM
Yes indeed, that does sound like the PNMV cassette. When Joe was asked about the song titles he replied: "Song titles are on a need-to-know basis and no one needs to know."
But the last song is definately SENEX.
Come to think of it: Parts of Pigs of the Roman Empire reminds me of both Alraune and the PNMV cassette. Which is not a bad thing at all. But don't tell Buzz I said so.

Ladies and Genitalmen I have two more joe extravaganzas this week!
The first tune is a Men's Recovery Project song called;
"Awful People in the Empty City"

the second beaut' is another Thrones mindbomb from the Alraune CD,
a track called "Buio Omega"

I did not know that Joe Preston was responsible for such excellent music! Man - is it heavy on the bass end of things or what?

I have been listening to those first 2 songs that were posted - much rather listen to that than the new Melvins album - bluuurrrggg

thx anaconda

Holy shit!
I'm listening to Googander right now, and it's REALLY cool! I'm almost 6 minutes into the song now. The other 2 minute Thrones song didn't impress me, but this one is. By the way, is their any guitar playing in the Thrones? Or is it all fuzzed up bass?
Title: Joe Preston mp3 of the Week
Post by: anaconda on September 17, 2004, 03:16:59 PM
From what I understand he creates all the sounds live with a drum machine, programmed keys and live bass thru a variety of pedals.

Does Joe have some kind of pitchshifter or something like that on his bass to emulate a guitar? I mean, he used to use a double-necked guitar and bass...

After this, I'll download the Men Of Recovery songs.

Which Thrones album is better-Sperm Whale or Alraune?

Personally I prefer Sperm Whale as it has more variety. A lot of people here probably won't agree with me. But Alraune is also a very worthy purchase, because I love all that drone stuff.

I like Sperm Whale more too... it's just a whole lot weirder and more interesting.

But all the Men's Recovery is awesome!

i wasn't sure about the MRP stuff but its so obscure i thought ya, post 'em

Sperm Whale is so majestic and heavy, its a real Thrones gem!
Plus it contains the White Rabbit EP, its a better buy. Both destroy though!

I'm sure that everyone here already has these, but I'm putting up
two tracks off the Joe Preston solo album this week. I would've put up
all 3 songs but the other one is a kid whining for their mommy over a
scratchy salsa record.  Nothing too spectacular.

So anyways, without further ado, here are the songs 'Bricklebrit', and 'Hands First Flower':

I'd like to help you but I'm unable to.
When I conceived this topic it was supposed to be
a repository of all things Joe with contributions from
all of us, not just myself.

I give and I give. The only other stuff I have is vinyl 7" stuff
that will sound like shit if i dub them to the comp and make mp3s.

So I ask my friends here to contribute what the may have to this
fine topic. Long live Joey Joey Joe Joe, the J Man, the P to the reston.
