the Melvins recored another ep with Pinkus. it is about time. Buzz even plays bass and Pinkus guitar. Should be some good tunes.
Due out this spring on AmRep.
Sweet!!! Hope I can actually get a copy of it.
Source? I hope it's true. Pinkus is awesome!

"another"? what is the other one(s)?
Melvins Go Pinkus
A good soul at South by Southwest recently gifted us a strange LP, red and white splattered clear vinyl with killer, late-Eighties Butthole Surfers tracks on one side and an obscure Melvins recording on the other. Turns out it's volume six of a 13-edition split series from the Melvins on famed imprint Amphetamine Reptile, plus a bit of foreshadowing. In December, Melvins drummer Dale Crover performed with Honky, the local trio led by the Surfers' favored bassist Jeff Pinkus. Not long afterward, he met with Crover and Melvins singer/guitarist Buzz Osborne in L.A. for some writing and recording. The session, engineered by Big Business/Melvins wingman Toshi Kasai, yielded four songs, two written and sung by Pinkus. Titled "Pist Pistoferson" and "AM Radio Head," they reined the sludge vets into Pinkus' world of "big stupid rock songs." The other two tunes, penned by Osborne, utilize the cryptic tunings and oozing riffage that remain distinctly Melvins. "My songwriting is so much more structured than theirs," laughs Pinkus. "I write in a rock way whereas Buzz comes up with riffs so intricate that we'd have to remind ourselves what we did last practice. That's probably why they want me as a bass player, because I can remember his parts when he can't!" Pinkus and Osborne even did a little role reversal, switching off guitar and bass duties on one song. The EP, titled Pinkus, comes out on AmRep this spring. Many of the label's releases are in quantities of 700 and sell out quickly. "The Melvins put out so much stuff that this will be only a brief blurb in the timeline of their releases," reflects Pinkus. "But for me it's something that I've been real proud to be a part of."

Cool, love collaborative Melvins music.
This is very exciting!.. I love Jeff Pinkus, He's an amazing Bass player...
I was lucky to see him perform in '96 in a super tiny club with his band "Daddy Longhead" pretty amazing stuff.
honky are playing uk soon too.
they even have a date in oxford. why they would bother is beyond me. but ill be there.

I am totally envious of this. Cheatos is one of my most played LPs ever.

Daddy Longhead was/is the best, but Honky is like candy...easier to swallow for people. Plus it gets the girls out to shank their asses. Buy them Jim Beam and watch them go.
Seen both Longhead and Honky too many times to count. His other band with Brett Bradford, Areola 51 is great too. More psychedelic than the other too. Simular to the Butts.

yeah he had been out of the butts for a couple of years by then and wanted to keep it seperate as that was not the show you were getting. Jimbo is a great guitar player. And Frank form the Pain Teens was drumming by then. Early shows were really crazy when Rey was still playing drums. They played a few times after cheatos came out, but only austin/houston and maybe dallas. then started back up again late 93 early 94 with rey, then he bailed and troy took over, then he bailed, then frank. i guess it was later in 96 honky started. at sxsw in 97 both honky and longhead played the same showcase which was funny. seems like end of 97 was the end of longhead and honky started to take off.
Not sure if any of this was ever posted, here's a clip of Dale performing with Honky a few months back, there are a few more out there on the youtubes

a deep, thunderous noise fest. dale, coady and buzz bashing away whilst jared makes his bass wail with agony. then takes it down the "song of the humpback" road.
oh wait.. I saw that already. it was how they closed all shows on the BRIDE tour.
He played Spread Eagle Beagle on drums live as a closer to the Houdini sets back a few years ago, was so good.
I've seen him play drums live, but am still wondering if he ever played on any recordings. None that I am aware of...

Funny and a lot of little details people have been wondering about too (Paul Leary, Rolling Stones covers, how it came together with 2 bassists...)
Interesting that Embrace The Rub could have been an OFF! song. As much as i don't like that song, i could actually see it making a pretty damn good song for OFF! done in their style.

His solo show in Buffalo last week was beyond awesome. He had projectors behind him showing really f'd up and hilarious old filmage ala Primus or vintage Surfers while playing. He did the majority of his newest album which I grabbed. Nice audio effects interspersed throughout coming thru the mic.
Got to chat with him before and after since he was selling his own merch. Dude is the coolest mf'er on the planet. I normally don't try and "hang with" the artist I'm going to see in a small club when they're amongst the locals, but with Jeff it was so relaxed and not a huge crowd. He'll rap w/ anyybody about anything. I asked him some Melvins/Buttholes related questions, and talked about music in general and NFL. He's the first person I've ever met who's an Atlanta Falcons fan.

I went to buy some Pinkus merch in Toronto and 2 guys said he is going on stage in a minute you're gonna have to wait. So after watching Quicksand I went back to the merch booth. Bought a couple vinyls and a shirt and he said he would cut me a deal. He was basically giving me a shirt for free but I paid him more than he asked anyway. Super nice guy, very funny too.
I liked Pinkus a lot more than Quicksand and Helmet. Both bands were great but Pinkus definitely was more interesting.

This was a great interview. Pinkus is a total hoot, completely honest and forthcoming.
Pinkus is a funny guy and a weirdo for sure but i could barely hear his bass in the mix when he used to play with Melvins
For all Buzzo's talk of liking weird things, he picks Steven because he's normal hahaha. I know Pinkus wasn't in the band all too long but he always seemed like a pretty good fit both playing and outlook/personality wise. I wonder what would have happened if Steven was never available or wasn't interested. Oh well, i do hope Pinkus gets to play with them again at some point. It would be good to see him on some more Melvins records too. Even if it's just an odd song here or there.
i'm not too surprised by this news. Pinkus pouring himself a huge glass of whiskey in the merch booth in Tucson. Pinkus waving around a joint he's about to smoke in the alley after a show at the Rebel Lounge in PHX. these are not things Buzz normally likes.
So, weird how? On the bass or in the van?

At first i took it to mean playing wise. But then after Vince's post i imagine it's probably just his personality. I mean Buzz seems to give a lot of freeway in terms of weird playing.

HaHa! Pinkus is the best!
Not sure Buzz has any sort of problem with Pinkus his lifestyle or otherwise given he's had two separate stints in the Melvins, 2014-15 and 2018-19 and has just started a two month long tour with him as his support act.
