"So..Jeff Pinkus will be joining MELVINS next month for the big tour while Jared Warren learns how to change diapers.
But what does the band have in store for this trip? Funny you should ask..."

I think I'm overdue for another crazy road trip where I nearly fall asleep behind the wheel at the end of it because the adrenaline FINALLY wears off two blocks from the house...
With all due respect to Jared, I hope this is true.

+1
Well, at least parenthood is a good reason for Jared's absence... I was worried that this could be another case of a Melvins' bassist going to the "Bass Morgue", if you know what I mean.
Now, if Coady would go missing we would have the closest thing to Mark D era Melvins and maybe they could do Stag in it's entirety live. :D
Every new father should be allowed some time off from his job to spend time with the newborn and mother.
FMLA should cover most of his off time.

Got my fingers crossed for "Cherub" and/or other Buttholes covers.
Well Jared! Congrats and Mazel Tov!
Poopie poopie! :)

yeah, I've got mixed feelings on it. on one hand I hold pinkus in the highest of regards. I'm a former BHS'aholic.
but on the other hand.. none of his bass playing sounds anything like anything MELVINS have ever done... especially his latest sound with Honky.
I'm not saying there isn't hope. I'm just saying my expectations are up in the air.

I think it will just be different (is that a bad thing?), plus he is a showman. He will get to be noisy which he does not do with Honky. He has been laying down some funk with Carson, horn section and all, so anything is possible.
I told him to have Buzz come up and play Lung Punch, then play the Pinkus EP and take a break. Then come back out and rock the Melvins set. Who knows. I doubt it will suck dumps he is a professional afterall.
when the melvins do something new i'm always excited

I would not be worried about whomever Buzz and Dale invite along to play in the band. HAVE WE EVER BEEN STEERED WRONG? Seriously! So they might need some extra rehearsals, Jared may need to show him some bass lines - big deal! We don't sit around wondering how Buzz and Dale are going to keep up Trevor Dunn. How many years has Jeff Pinkus been playing bass? I am MORE than sure it will be fine. I hope they use this as a way to stretch out into some new areas that they haven't before - they tend to do that now with the different people they play with.
Good lordy.

On the contrary Melvins songs are not that complicated.
they are more rhythmically challenging than technically. especially the older styuff.
yeah, yeah, this sounds like the good stuff and also cool too ...
the curve balls are always welcome ... makes a game more fun.

That's the best thing about Melvin's bassists, they're all so unique. Past and obviously now present.
Hope he makes the songs his own rather than trying to sound like Jared.

for purely selfish reasons im disappointed. ive never seen the big biz version of Melvins play live.
it would have been nice for the 30th anniv to see them. oh well.
You've had 7 years. Melvins are disappointed in you.
Seriously. Longer than any other version of the Melvins has existed. Do you live in Cana-duh?

the question is moot on the grounds that this tour doesn't even go into canada. thus removing hot pant's ability to see the new temporary incarnation of MELVINS. thus etc. etc. thus his dissapointment is groundless.

sure, it won't be the same without Jared and his weird outfits but there will be the double drums monster kit. also don't worry, you'll have the chance to see them with Jared in the future since this line up will never change
and you get the bonus of seeing Dale drumming with Honky!

And do not forget about Trevor Dunn. He can play electric with both his fingers and a pick.
Ive Seen Lorax without a pick too.

I feel a strange sense of relief. Despite my love of Jared, I could use a reprieve from his constant hamming for attention. His vocals will be sorely missed however...

As far as I'm concerned, Jared can ham for all the attention he wants.
I loved Jared's cape!
So how many bassists have the Melvins had? I've lost count. Dale counts as a Melvins bassist now too!

Trevor gets raised from the dead from time to time.
I saw them twice on the 30th Anniversary tour and both times I was disappointed about Jarred not being there. Pinkus was great don't get me wrong but I just felt as an anniversary tour the current lineup should have been there.
I thought that Pinkus did a great job, just not 100% in sync with the band yet (Phoenix was first stop). I have a bias towards finger picking on bass. That's how I play it. It was nice to see Trevor and Pinkus play bass for the Melvins in the same killer bar in less than a year. Added bonus is that I get to see Big Business at the same place tomorrow night. Also picked up Honky's two most recent CDs. The more I listen to them, the more I love them.
Pinkus doing the scream in night goat was awesome!
Pinkus was excellent
Winkus is pexcellent
