Title: Phoenix, AZ 7/12/13
Post by: M i C H e L L e on July 13, 2013, 03:54:20 AM
Few words can describe the events that took place tonight. Here's my attempt to explain what I witnessed.
This was by far the most epic Melvins show I've been too, and that says quite a bit. The set list was put together so well, and highlighted the best that 30 yrs has to offer.
I missed Jared, but really its all about Buzz and Dale, who I might add is looking incredibly svelt and 100% on top of his game. Adding Coady to the mix makes it twice the drumming fury one can ever experience. They were monsters on the drums tonight! Having ended the show with a righteous drum-off it blew everyone's brains out.
Here's the perfect set list -

Hag me
War on wisdom
We are doomed
Sweet willy
Growing disgust
The bloat
Let it all be
You're blessened
Hooch
Night goat
Lizzy
Billy fish
Queen
Water glass
Evil new war god
Lysol
Graveyard

I'm still stunned, and was left weak in the knees after the last drum beat exploded. It was all about the drums tonight. Hats off to Dale & Coady, they stole the show!

Honky was pretty amazing too! Definitely don't miss them!

Oh and congrats to Jared, you're going to make a swell dad!

Great setlist for the kids. I was hoping they would slip in a few from HAT & Pigs. Oh well, glad I saw them in 2003 & 2004! What song is Graveyard from?

Now by Lysol, do you mean the first 2 songs like they've been playing, or are they playing the whole album? (C'mon wishful thinking...)

Thanks. I knew it sounded too good to be true. Still an awesome set. They have too many good songs, they need a 3-4 hour set ;)

That's what we call a tank top, you know, like basketball players wear. The only thing I remember Dale wearing during  the HAT era was a women's slip like this:

Yea, it looks like you are right, that photo is definitely from that time and it appears to be the same tank top. Maybe the skull shirt was his back-up when the slip was dirty.

stallion is right.  I don't remember dale wearing the slip in the states, mostly in Europe.

Surprised, given how hot it is out West, that Dale doesn't play like this again:

What's the letterpress that says "Sincerely" on it?

And another variation of the Freak Puke letterpress?! I don't remember a black one on the Freak Puke tour.

And is that two separate shirt designs, or is the silver heart the back of the cheeseburger shirt?

Thanks!

I have been reading these boards since 2003 and one thing I have noticed in the last 10 years, is that I do not like any other bands (save 1 or 2) that are talked about here. I guess that just shows the far reaching appeal the Melvins have!

I always thought you could find varied music discussions here, from noise to dancehall to reggae.

I'm curious what bands the poster is thinking of.

The only band I can think of is actually one that you have posted about in the past: Goatsnake.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I don't know if you got your answer to this. If I remember right, the one with 'Sincerely' on it is Mangled Demos from 1983.

I was there. It rocked! My fifteenth Melvins show. I was standing very close to 5w33t 1ntu1t0n, who I didn't know at the time (we compared pics on our phones. We were both in front of Buzz). I bought the Freak Puke poster I had wanted so badly (no merch set up at Melvins Lite show, in October). I bought the Phoenix 30th Anniversary Tour poster. I wanted to buy more, but I was broke (still am).
