We are very sorry to say, but due to an illness in the band the Melvins have cancelled all of their scheduled dates for the rest of the year. We are hoping that the shows will be able to be rescheduled in the future and the band sincerely apologizes for any incvonvenience caused by this unforseen circumstance. Knowing the Melvins like we do, we have no doubt that they will return stronger than ever. Thanks for your support and understanding
Hopefully not serious. Any news/rumours?
Tis the real deal.
Does this mean the Porn tour is cancelled too??
Is it Dale who's sick?? Buzz or Kev, what the fuck...
Wait, wait, wait. Tell me you're fucking kidding around. This isn't funny...those fuckers hardly ever play the UK and they've just cancelled?!? What a fucking bring-down. Poor fucking show, I'd say. Hell, unless it's Buzz who's ill, replace them.
Not amused.
this fucking sucks. i mean i wish whoever is sick well. but this is a big let down.
although, it must be pretty serious. i mean to cancel the rest of the year?
especially with two new CDs to push!! mind you sub-par
releases for the melvins but still, these guys are touring fiends
normally...i wonder who's sick
I'm speechless. I just hope whoever's sick gets better soon. Personally, I thought it might be Kevin because of this:

...Kevin, on the other hand, must of had some Kentucky rotgut or something because he was stumbling and falling down quite a bit and sometimes would not even be playing.

got a link for the full review?? is this the curse
of the melvins bassist again??? damn if he's on junk or
alcoholic its all the same...i won't pre-judge though until
i hear cold hard facts, like from buzz facts.

im afraid that it can be Kevin to! :(
I hope whoevers sick gets well soon!
Sounds like someone's either really sick or out of the band. Cancelling the rest of the year? Thats a long time and a lot of shows. I've got a bad feeling about this.
Anyone out there thats supposed to go to the show tonight in Kansas? Has it been cancelled?
Quote from: TOOLSounds like someone's either really sick or out of the band. Cancelling the rest of the year? Thats a long time and a lot of shows. I've got a bad feeling about this.
Yeh, if someone's so ill that they have to cancel the rest of the year, then they're either really ill or there has been a fuck up in the band. This sucks.
well this sux. I just got a call from Tickets.com where I had purchased my Melvins tix for the SF show.
They informed me they would be refunding me the ticket price, but not the service (convienience fee) that they assessed when I bought the tickets.
So, I lose $12 and get no show. :( That'll teach me to buy in advance, I guess.
I hope that whomever is affected by the illness gets well, because the Melvins are probably my favorite band.
If it's Kevin that is ill, I wish they'd call me. I play bass and know practically everything they do. I'd gladly sit in for him until he gets better.
I am the one who was at this show in Louisville where it looked like Kevin was messed up and doing odd things like stumbling and falling down quite a bit. There were points where he wasn't even playing bass. Some other poster named rjr was there too and said a friend of his thought Kevin may have urinated on himself, but then someone replied that Kevin (and this is odd), would put bottled water down his robe and feign that he was urinating at some other show. Now, I am not saying that whatever is going on has to do with Kevin, but it seems strangely coincidental. Something was wrong with him that night because if it was just an act, I don't think Buzz would be looking over at him in what looked like to me as a "whats going on" kind of way.
Quote from: CreepyCrawlalthough, it must be pretty serious. i mean to cancel the rest of the year?
We are into October now. The end of the year isn't really that far away.
well i better start sending tapes of my bass playing, oh wait i need a bass first.
man that really sucks though, i feel for you guys.

I very much doubt Kevin is on junk... Earlier this year I asked him if he took drugs... He pretty much shot me down, the Melvins are anti drugs... I can't see it being that. I reckon its more serious...
Funny how that bassist curse keeps coming around.... creepy. That is if it is Kevin; we don't know for sure yet...
Get better Melvins![/quote]
what a bunch of crybaby dicks we have here. an illness in the band that is causing them to cancel the rest of the year's tourdates, and you're speculating about drug use and bitching about your tickets and shit?
jesus, won't you feel like assholes when it turns out one of them actually had a serious illness?
people get sick. it happens. it may be a bummer to miss a show of theirs, but it's not like they don't tour all the time or anything.
i hope that whoever is sick gets better quickly. they're all good people, and all of them deserve concern and respect.
i say its acid flashbacks from the old cows days

there is nothing to add...
Well, I wish them well and i hope it isn't anything too serious. Kevin was in tip-top form when I saw them last month... Who knows... it may not even be any of the 3, but someone close to them... a wife or something...
At any rate, this is unusual for them and I hope everything works out for them. They are my favorite band, and will continue to be no matter what...

I agree, I was hoping someone might have known what happened but it's pure speculation at this point. The only thing I'll say is that they've cancelled a bunch of shows in Europe, so my guess is that it's pretty serious. I don't know, when I heard Men of Porn was supposed to open a few shows for them in Europe, I thought maybe Billy Anderson could hold down the bass and they could still do the shows, but since the whole year is scrapped it sounds pretty serious.
damn, i would have seen then 3 times in 3 days....and i already got 1 ticket
Let's hope they will be able to continue what they're doing at all.
you know its serious if they are cancelling 3 months worth of shows, but I wish them the absolute best. Let's not make wild speculations as to what is going on though, that's just retarded...
its good that we have people like tony here, who knows how everyone should behave.
Quote from: klumpits good that we have people like tony here, who knows how everyone should behave.
yeah thanks dad! i think it was courtney again.
Houston here, and yeah I'm dissappointed but expect we'll be seeing them again. For as seriously as Buzz takes his music, I wouldn't put it past the Melvins for cancelling all if they bassist falls out. Buzz wouldn't take the Melvins to the stage if he didn't feel it wouldn't be tight. As for the newbie that posted the reply about if its not Buzz that's sick then just replace the others... FUCK YOU. You obviously don't know what it take to make Melvins music. They've replaced the bassist before, but if your little peabrain could understand the concept of math and writing music you'd know that there would be no Melvins without Dale and Buzz. Dale is just as much the core of Melvins music as Buzz is. Buzz may write, but aboslutely nobody and play like Dale and Buzz together. Just ask Dave Grohl, Kurt (pussy) Cobain and anybody else who would have given their left arm to be in the Melvins... It's math and no idiot can do it.
Mark Lanegan just cancelled all of his east coast tour dates due to an illness.
That was the first report. I may be an asshole for this, but my first speculation was a relapse.
Turns out it was a car accident in LA. Not his fault, he was sober as a church mouse.
Back to the Melvins, it may turn out to be a show stopping illness, but it's just human nature to speculate until we hear the truth. We always get to the bottom of shit on this BBS.
The Melvins have not had a break in a long time. Not only that, they all have side projects out the ass. This could lead to any of the previously mentioned suspicions our friends here have mentioned.
Here's my concern, Melvins had some major gigs lined up. The 25th Anniversary Alt Tenticles show at Slims and the GAMH show. Not only these, but a tour of Europe for fucks sake. Something bad is going on here for them to cancel that. Thay have bills to pay like the rest of us and touring and selling merch keeps food on the table.
I am worried sick over this.
Hopefully they are just tired of Jello already.
yeah !

...Well, perhaps this explains what's going on I am sorry to say. Still, this is second or even third hand info. All I know is that he was acting pretty bizarre at the show I was at. I certainly wish him well and hope he gets whatever it may be wrong with him straightened out.
Some of your guys explanations sound hoaxy as shit.
But if they do dump Kevin, I'm behind what someone else said. Bring forth Kunka.
This is so sad. I ordered planetickets from Norway to Netherlands last week just to see them. I can always go see Dillinger Escape Plan on friday, but it's just not the same. Let's just hope that The Melvins will rise again stronger than ever
bummer man
like the joe preston.
i really think that all of this shit about kevin sounds ridiculous. I saw them less than a month ago and they all seemed perfect...tight as ever. now, i know things can deteriorate pretty quickly in bands but it just seems like the melvins have been through shit like this before and would've resolved the situation before going on the road for months and months. i think that at the age the melvins are at they are mature enough to know if they have problems. i don't think a reasonable, respectful man would fuck over his band a month into being on the road and i have no reason to believe that kevin isn't.
i hope everything ends up ok with them.
kevin>all other melvins bassists
Quote from: deadressed.kevin>all other melvins bassists
Amen to that! I think Kevin is awesome in the Melvins and I hope he's OK. And still in the band.
hell yeah!
Tim Moss (The MELVINS tour manager) posted on stonerrock.com that the quote about Kevin and the meds is not true.
THANK GOD!
it didnt exactly seem very realistic.
but its stupid putting out info like that.
I think we should stop speculating too muc about this, and just hope that everything is okay!
I hate to hear that ANY one of those guys are having some kind of crisis, not matter what it is. Even though it does suck to not know what's actually going on, there'd be nothing you and I could do about it. All you people who are jumping to conclusions need to cool yo' jets.
All that aside I bet that unbeknownst to me, whatever was wrong was already happening right in front of my eyes 2 weeks ago.
so how was that show?? did anything seem amiss as far as you could tell??
I didn't notice anything too wrong a month ago when I saw them in Lawrence, except they played an extremely short set.
But i kind of assumed that was because they all hate lawrence. :D
The show I saw was one of the first of the tour. Kevin was walking around the club before the show and seemed kind of lost. Not to say that anything was wrong, we thought he was just really drunk or something but looking back it wouldnt surprise me if something wasnt quite right with him. Hope im wrong about it and everything if fine with him, the rest of the band and their families.
You know what really gets me? When these Ipecac bands cancel a european tour it NEVER gets fucking compensated. Tomahawk dropped out last year and promised to make up for it, that didn't happen, and now I'll bet it's another year or two before the Melvins come back here. It's just not on. If someone's on smack and fucking up performances, don't book the show.
As it stands, I hope that all the guys are OK, but stand by my assertion that if it was anyone but Buzz, they should've replaced that member and carried on. It's not like they've been shy of ridding people through 'illness' before, I mean, when Lorax got dopesick Buzz hoofed her...
We just have to wait and see, it just as may be that a family member is ill, so the speculating should be laid to rest.
The show on Sept 21st in Spartanburg kicked ass.....I didn't notice anything"off", but it was also my first time seeing these guys live....they had not played there in five years so I was stoked.
I just hope everything is OK....
I didn't notice anyone looking "off" during the Athens show but it was my first time so I didn't have any kind of previous baseline to compare that to. I don't think I'd be able to tell just from the way someone was acting on stage how they were in real life anyway. I mean, people can play through a lot of pain and nobody but like their mother would catch on.
The show I saw the Melvins play in Salt Lake City destroyed. There was nothing off, and Kevin put on the best performance of any bassist I've seen with the Melvins, and I've seen the Melvins numerous times.
If for some crazy reason the Melvins ever need another bassist, let's just say I'd love to see David Wm. Sims in action again.
hehe, i think kevin is even cooler than Sims, he is a twisted fellow and thats why we love him!
i wouldnt want ANY other bass player!
i was at the show in lawrence, and the only time buzz talked to the crowd was right before the last song and he asked the crowd if anyone knew what time it was because kevin was due to take his medication. it was funny at the time, but now, well, who knows?
Dale plays lead drums, he can't be replaced.
buzz and dale are like a cock and balls, you really need em both.
indeed. which is the cock and which is the balls(s)?
Quote from: DudbeanBuzz is worth the $ by himself. Although, they'd have to change the tickets to "the Melvin".
HAHA!

Waaaaait a minute. Are you saying that if Dale was out of the picture they should have carried on as the Melvins? A different bass player I could live with, especially if it meant that they could finish the tour, but if Dale wasn't there I'd be so fucking pissed off. He's more important to the Melvins than Bonham was to Led Zeppelin, Moon was to The Who, etc. Mind you, I'd still go to the show no matter what, because Buzz is worth the $ by himself. Although, they'd have to change the tickets to "the Melvin".
I'm not saying kick him out of the band, I'm saying that he's a drummer, OK? Someone else could've learned his parts and still toured instead of pissing off a legion of fans by staying home...it's not like Dale sings anything they play live and whilst I think he's totally awesome, he could've been replaced for the sake of the tour. If it's a problem on Kevin's end, get another bassist...It's that simple. I'm a little miffed today as my ticket came through in the mail meaning that if I didn't have internet access I'd still assume I was all set to go to a Melvins show. Frankly, this whole thing stinks and it's a fucking travesty that the greatest band in the world once again misses out on touring europe.
I mean for fuck's sake! Buzz toured hear with bloody Fantomas! Fantomas for god's sake! So he can get over for Mike Patton's audio wankery but won't bring his own band.
I know, yeah, yeah, it's insensitive but I'd been fucking stoked about the show and now it just ain't goting to happen for a fucking age. Needless to say they'll tour the fucking US all next year like they did all of this one and fuck everyone else over again. It just ain't fair...
Hey. Long time board lurker but this is my first post. I don't want to add to the speculation, except to say that I saw the Melvins in Spartanburg a couple of weeks ago, and they totally rocked the house. If Kevin was having troubles playing the songs, I certainly didn't notice. But, towards the end of the set, Kevin left the stage for a good 5 minutes. Buzz, Dale, and the stage hand seemed a little confused about Kevin's sudden departure. Dale broke into a rythmn, and Buzz worked the crowd for a few minutes. Most I've ever heard King talk during a set actually.
Anyway, Kevin did return to the stage and they finished the set gloriously. It's not that often the Melvins make it down to the Southeast, but I never miss them when they do. I wish em all the best.
Quoteit's not like Dale sings anything they play live
Wrong. Dale sings.
Also, Drummers are hard to find. Most of the time they have developed a certain style over the years.
Even more so if they are self tought, I find "schooled" musicians(sp?) (especially drummers) to be boring and without souls.
Dale is the kind of drummer whom has been building up his own style.
Buzz may do most of the songwriting, but when Dale sits down and adds his flavor, it's gonna take off to another level.
As a songwriter, this is the experience I have with drummers.
You just can't force a drummer to play 100% what you want them to play, so you need to find a drummer who's style you are comfortable with.
I'm pretty sure Buzz would never go on as "Melvins" without Dale.
no dale = no melvins
i talked to kevin for a while the night after the louisville show. if he was really fucked up the night before i couldn't tell. he seemed healthy as could be and during the show he didn't stumble around much, although he did play especially sloppy, even for kevin.
let's keep the rumor mill churnin. if buzz DOES fire him, i am the next logical choice for bassist. i'm so cute the melvins will be on trl in no time. we'll have a 22 min video for pigs that gets voted #1 everyday and it's so long there's no time for any others. 8)
Doesn't Dale sing on, like, every song? All the time?
don't let me down with stupid posts like this, reverend. i thought you were above that.... nobody could replace dale, ever. any melvins fan knows that dale IS the sound. (the SOUND, mind you, not the songwriting.) maybe...MAYBE..someone could learn his parts, but nobody has the same style, drumming isn't just technicality, it is mostly finesse and style. dale is absolutely irreplaceable. there is more personality in drumming than there is in any other instrument (aside from vocals). they are the only acoustic instrument in the back bone of rock. i don't care how much you finesse say, a keyboard, a digital output signal is a digital output signal. the same goes, to a lesser degree, for electronic stringed instrument. i am not saying there is no style involved in guitaring, but alot of the sound manipulation has to do with exactly that, sound manipulation by means of electronics and knowledge of sound behavior and whatnot, as opposed to purely physical manipulation, as is the case with drums.
i understand that you are very upset, and i feel really bad for you in your situation. i also understand why such an emotional state would make you say the things you had about dale, but i hope that when you come you your senses you will realize that crover is not replaceable (not as "the melvins"). i hope you get to see the melvins this year, no fan deserves to get let down that hard.

Hey Steve I was at this show too and from my vantage point, Kevin did stumble around and fell down quite a bit. He kept dropping his slide and was not even playing bass on some of the songs. Before the show started, I saw Kevin at the merchandise table and he appeared fine to me. It was strange. All I know is he wasn't right.
Hey Eb I feel bad for you, but I don't think it would be the Melvins without Dale. They work so well together. They are not like Megadeth or anything where you can just bring in anybody to play drums, bass, etc.
HELEN WIGGINS! HELEN WIGGINS FOR PRESIDENT!!!
which one is sick, gosh darnit?
Well wishes to whoever is sick, get well soon.
Did everybody see on the AT website the confirmation that Melvins will play the halloween show, but with a stand-in bassist? I guess that means some serious shit is really happening.
Whoa. Wonder who? I'm sure it won't be Klaus Fluoride!
Welllll. you have all probably seen this - http://alternativetentacles.com/news.php?sd=azKDYD0-k6g7Zxi9aCq - by now... but:
Quote10/08/04: Melvins WILL Play the AT Halloween Show
The Melvins will still play with Jello on Halloween for ATs 25th anniversary show at Slims in San Francisco. They have cancelled all remaining tour dates for the rest of the year due to illness. They will use a stand in bassplayer at the Halloween show, but will definitely be playing.
So.... that's that.
hmmmmm, dammit!
i know its not our business really, but cant they give us some details???
is it byebye to kevin?
It better not be goodbye to Kevin, he's definitely my favourite Melvins bassist. I don't think you need to feel too sorry for the Reverend, I mean they did play in the uk twice last year. It sucks for the people who were a bit more 'out of the way' for them than normal; Poland etc.
I wouldn't want to see the Melvins without Dale at this point.
They'll be back. Hopefully with hula dancing.
Sims from the Jesus Lizard would be awesome for the Halloween show. Maybe Dave Stone or Adam Jones could do it? Who knows.
ya, David Scott Stone came to my mind as well.
Quote from: Vcavallodon't let me down with stupid posts like this, reverend. i thought you were above that....
Au contraire. Look, I don't consider my post to be anything near 'stupid'. Perhaps a little based on raw emotion but, y'know whatever. My point is that the Melvins don't tour every year, especially not in England and fair enough, they were over twice last year but that's almost irrelevant at this point. Fact is they've been celebrating their 20th anniversary all over the US all year long and then on the cusp of having to leave the US, they pull the plug. I can't actually believe the cheek of them playing the hallowen show with a stand-in but yet they won't do the European tour.
Quotenobody could replace dale, ever. any melvins fan knows that dale IS the sound. Look, whilst I'm well aware of the fact that Dale's drumming's pretty unique, the fact remains that someone could simply have learned his parts from the records and not gone for such an improv-heavy show. As it stands, it seems as though Kevin's the problem here so all this talk of Dale's sudenly null-and-void. I know it's all about Buzz and Dale but honestly, I'd prefer to see the Melvins with a stand-in for Crover than to se no Melvins at all.
Quotei understand that you are very upset, and i feel really bad for you in your situation. i also understand why such an emotional state would make you say the things you had about dale, but i hope that when you come you your senses you will realize that crover is not replaceable (not as "the melvins"). i hope you get to see the melvins this year, no fan deserves to get let down that hard.
I hope to see them soon as well, but I just ain't so sure I shall. The anoying thing is that in this country's music press the gig's still being reported as on and it's just so infuriating that everywhere I look I'm reminded of the fact that my favourite band's bailed on my country only to play an even earlier show in the US again with a different bassist. It's just shitty. I hope Kevin gets his shit together and all that but I stand by my initial reaction - there was no need to cancel the whole tour just for Kevin.
Quote from: BryanDid everybody see on the AT website the confirmation that Melvins will play the halloween show, but with a stand-in bassist? I guess that means some serious shit is really happening.
Well, I guess this basically tells us which one is ill.
If there is anyone here who is going to be at this show, you ought to respectfully ask Buzz or Dale about Kevin and the Melvins' future if you get the chance. Only if you want to of course. And you would be a gentleman if you would post any info.
put that fuckin hammer down and get up on stage, lukin!
Wow. It sounds like we're going to have to say bye to Kevin.
I don't know Rev, I don't think it's fair to assume that just because they were able to come up with a suitable fill in for one gig (where the set list is probably going to be mostly, if not all, stuff from the Jello record and Dead Kennedys covers) that that fill in would also be available for a tour, especially one that involves going overseas. At a minimum you'd have an aweful lot of trouble gettin' that fill in the proper visas and such (assuming that you could even find one with a valid passport).
I'm guessing this wasn't a recent discovery, I mean it's not as if Kevin's just up-sticks and ditched the band is it? If the situation's become so severe that Buzz felt he needed kicking out of the band methinks this would've taken some time, so we have two options, either don't book a tour you can't fulfil or get in a new bassist. Frankly, the Melvins bass parts aren't insanely hard and there are few instances (aside from Botlicker material) where simply root noting Buzz's part wouldn't have done. I say again, if this is something that they've known about for a while, it's just bloody stupid to go right ahead and book tours which are going to leave their wallets lighter in bail-out fees to promoters/venues etc. I wish they'd never anounced this tour.
Personally I know little about the business of finding Visas and whatnot, but surely someone from the UK could have stepped in? I mean, do the Melvins not have any allies over here?
Rev.... as a drummer and multi instrumentalist in a band, UNLESS they find someone that knows Melvins songs by heart, its going to take a good SOLID MONTH to get them up to speed to play a greuling 30+ dates tour. so they still may have had to cancel. especially since the tour had started.
as for the SF show, it will be punk music. i could fill in on bass, plus they have time to work with someone that Jello knows and works with.
It sucks that this happened. I'd like to know why, but i dont fucking care. just as long as they dont have cancer and die.
Quote from: Reverend Ebeneezerif this is something that they've known about for a while, it's just bloody stupid to go right ahead and book tours which are going to leave their wallets lighter in bail-out fees to promoters/venues etc.

I don't want to say to much 'cause privacy is involved (and I really don't know that much anyway), but I have some reason to think that's not so.
Dale can't be replaced period. Obviously his drumming is superb, but yes he does sing too. Background vocals on almost every song. He has a great voice and compliments Buzz's vocals perfectly. For good examples of this hear live versions of Night Goat, Boris, Easy as it was, and At a Eye Flies. During the Melvins tour in 96, Dale performed Cotton Mouth to end the first set alone on stage with a guitar.

instead of predicting another bassist switch, why don't we take their word for it and say kevin's just sick. i'm sure buzz would have no problem saying he kicked him out if in fact he did so. i for one don't think they are givin him the boot, buzz has said that this is the best period musically in his career and they work together wonderfully. yeah kevin was pretty sloppy at the shows i saw but fuck it's kevin rutmanis, if he played it straight or acted normal, THEN i'd say somethings up.
yeah, kevin is the only one i think really fits the melvins good!
Kevin rules, and that's coming from me, so take my word for it!

lol...smell that sarcasm.
i wasnt being sarcastic.
For some reason I'm thinking Scott Reeder as a good replacement. :)
you mean the bassplayer from Kyuss? He wouldnt cover half of it...
i wish kevin was my dad...
I love you pops....
When I saw them here in New York, Kevin kept spitting on the stage the whole show. I didn't remember him doing that the other times I've seen them with him on bass. Does he always spit a lot? Maybe he just kept getting sicker and sicker....

Oh. It just seemed like an obvious thing, since Stag came out in '96 and Dale first did the solo thing on that tour.
its all of the drugs i've done. i'll forget entire performances. :D
hi,
it might be of interest for some people in vienna, austria, that the european tour is cancelled, BUT they will show up on november 10. at Gartenbaukino where 3 shortmovies by Cameron Jamie are shown, to which the Melvins will play LIVE. tickets are available at the Viennale stands and from 28.10 at the Gartenbaukino and will be 16 euros.

i saw the melvins on 9/11/04...the magic stick in detroit...
the show rocked and kevin seemed to be fine...aside from the middle of the show ...he seemed a little confused during a song ....wich was long...he kept looking to buzz like wtf is going on.....are we going to move on already...other than that he seemed in titp top shape...there was even a point in that song where he was hitting a metal hammer against a tube and seemed to smack it right on the mark 99% of the time....after that jello came out and they did like 6 or 7 more songs ....but it was so chaotic
you couldnt tell if anyone was fucking up...
as far as kicking kevin out of the band....i agree with what someone posted earlier about buzz not having a problem telling the rest of the world that he had come to that decision...i guess we will have to wait and see...
all of you people whining about you dont get to see them...blah blah blah...
deal with it and stop complaining about your 12 dollar loss and your non refundable plane tickets...shit happens...and it will continue to happen untill you die...
as for kevin ...if you are ill get better and rock my ass some more....
as for the melvins fans ...relax....no matter what happens they will continue to rock you...just at a later date..

I think it is you who needs to relax. Plane tickets cost quite a bit. I am sure most people will get a refund for their concert ticket money, which isn't the issue; it's the unfortunate circumstance that the Melvins canceled their tour and some of these people missed out. Yes, there is illness, that is all we know at this point, but what you have to realize is if it is from a drug addiction or something of that nature then I know Buzz is very serious when it comes to performing; it's what he does for his living, and I don't think he will let it go. Action would be taken if this speculation turns out to be true. It just doesn't seem like something like the Flu or Pneumonia. This was something that happened very recent I think because I saw them on 9-10 in Indianapolis and the show was top notch with no odd behaviour to speak of. The 10-1 show in Louisville was another story.

I can't believe how you misinterpret statements.
I was noting that tickets.com doesn't refund their charges for canceled events even though they do refund the ticket price itself. I don't blame the Melvins, Buzz, or Kevin.
In fact, I really can't blame tickets.com because that rule is posted on their website, and I didn't pay enough attention to make note of it. But, I was suprised. If someone out there that uses tickets.com wasn't aware of the policy...maybe I've saved them $12 for some other event. That's all. I know $12 isn't much in the grand scheme of things.
I'm disappointed that I don't get to see my favorite band, but I know that they'll return at another time. I hope Kevin is okay and returns to the lineup because I think he's great. I play bass myself and would love to sit in for Kevin until he gets better. It may not be drugs, the public simply doesn't know. Even if it is...they'll resolve it to my satisfaction because I've pretty much agreed and liked everything that the Melvins do. They're great artists and I like to see what they come up with.
If you think that was a whine then that's your problem.
kevin might have an infection or something, that would cause him to have to stay home for a while.
i have said it once and ill say it again, I once spent over 200 bucks to see the melvins, hehe. that kinda blew my wallet away:)
and then there were som t shirts there to... :)

Good one, Tony. Believe that playa.
Speaking of illnesses, Mark Lanegan cancelled his homecomming show at the Showbox in Seattle on Thursday night.
"Due to an illness"
What truly sucked was they waited until the last minute to tell anyone, I mean the lights were lowered and everyone expected to rock out. Trying to suck the last beer money out of everyone I guess.
so he was actually in town grim, in the venue and he
decided he couldn't go on due to 'illness'??? or
did the club promote it knowing full well he was
going to be a no-show??
I would think the Showbox had to know and just wanted to sell as much booze as possible before disclosing Lanegan wasen't going on stage.
There was no merchandise on the tables for the Mark Lanegan Band. Every Seattle show a local artist makes a Showbox poster. I always bring $20 bucks to buy one, but no posters. Not only that Bublegum just came out and the tour is to promote the release. This struck me as odd. I was in the Green Room partying and came out to record the show. I asked the merch girl who was next and she said "Mark's next". So I guess the other bands had no clue.
I have found no info anywhere on this "illness".

PRESS RELEASE
CAMERON JAMIE & THE MELVINS
Special performance at De Vleeshal, Middelburg
Friday 12 November, 21.00
The Melvins - one of the most influential cult bands of the last fifteen years - will make three special appearances in Europe. After Paris and Vienna, this performance will be put on once-only in the Netherlands: on 12 November at De Vleeshal in Middelburg. Here, The Melvins will give a live performance of their specially composed soundtrack for three films by American artist Cameron Jamie. The Melvins' ominous soundtrack fuses intensely with Cameron Jamie's dark and disturbing films.
The Melvins' music is in a class of its own. It has been hugely influential on some of the seminal bands of the past fifteen years. Cameron Jamie (1969 Los Angeles, lives and works in Paris) works in a variety of mediums, ranging from performance to photography and film. The three films for which The Melvins composed the soundtrack to be performed on 12 November, have been inspired by Jamie's fascination for rituals: both age-old rites and new ones evolving on the outer edges of society.
For Kranky Klaus Jamie travelled to the remote mountain villages of central Austria, where he recorded the 'Krampus ritual'. On the night of 6 December villagers await not only a benevolent Saint Nicholas but also, anxiously, the Krampus: masked, mythical beasts who force their way into people's homes, handing out violent punishment to those believed to have misbehaved in the preceding year.
In Spook House Jamie portrays the inhabitants of the white working class suburbs of Detroit in the weeks running up to Halloween. In late October, homes are transformed into ghost houses, gardens into cemeteries (gravestones and all) and kitchens into mausoleums where torn off 'body parts' are prepared for cannibalistic feasts.
Jamie's acclaimed film BB highlights LA's teenage wrestlers, who 'act out' the popular television wrestling matches. However, unlike the television fights, these encounters are no hoax. Kids jump from garage roofs and fly at each other with ladders and garden furniture. Combined with The Melvins powerful, claustrophobic soundtrack, the black-and-white footage of these brutal fights depicts an existence Jamie likens to 'purgatory'.
Recently The Melvins cancelled all performances due to illness of one of the band members. Exclusively for their performance with the films of Cameron Jamie, The Melvins will travel to Europe with a substitute bass player.
In 2003 De Vleeshal presented an exhibition of drawings by Cameron Jamie: Maps and Composite Actions.

man thats pisses ME off about the cancellation of Mark Langan minutes before he's to play, and i wasnt even there. thats fucking wrong. what a rip-off. you should do some hard-core investigatory jornalism. ring up the fuckers and pretend to be from your popular radio station and demand a response as you brought a ticket. pretend to be "on air"...thatll scare them. yeah. .. even say you have a statement from Marks camp that says..blah blah.
anyway, i hope you find an answer.
peace.
On a related note, I'm looking forward to Lanegan on the 22nd Nov. Last years one was the most moving gig I've been to...
re: lanegan in seattle. mark ate at dick's (a yummy burger stand) and he got sick. he sat in his hotel room until the very last minute, which probably wasn't too cool however he thought he might feel better and NOT have to cancel. unfortunately he was just too sick and had to cancel...last minute. the club had no idea. no, i don't work for the club or the promoters.
i saw him in portland the following night and i called the club to make sure that he was there and healthy and ready to play because i'd be pissed off after sitting through an acoustic set of nick oliveri only to find out that lanegan cancelled.
if it were josh i wouldn't care and i've gone way off topic. later!
Thank's for the information Feta.
Dick's is a pretty respectable burger joint as you well know.

Cameron has been traveling for exhibitions and he is in Norway now, but he sends you his very best regards.
All the best,

I go to the paris gig but I don't think Jello Biaffra will be there... the melvins only play for the cameron jamie film and I don't think they will play their own songs too but the film soundtrack only

ah well it's too late for regret now.

Anyone know who filled in for Kevin? Just curious.
You know, after reading this thread, I saw them in..oh I can't remember but it was within the last year...and Kevin looked really f*d up. I mean I was too, so I'm no one to judge, I mean a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do...but I was 2 feet away from him and it was apparent.
