I was listening to Singles 1-12 the other day and I heard in [one of the tracks named after a city] Buzz yell 'fucking' as an adjective in his adlib.
It got me thinking... there seems to be no shortage of profanity in Melvins stage banter, interviews, samples in songs, and even song and album titles. But I can't for the life of me think of a Buzz-penned song where he sings a curse word. Maybe it's just my hearing/memory. What do you guys think?
curse words NOT sung by Buzzo:
Alive at the Fucker Club
Shit Sandwich
Real Fucking Nasty
Colossus of Destiny samples
Theresa screams dialog
Hooray For Me Fuk U
maybe the one on Honky with the record label phone calls?
maybe Anal Satan?
probably some cover songs
Charmicarmicat
He's said he doesn't cuss in lyrics so that they won't get stickered in the stores.
The only ones I can think of with some cussin' are
- Little Judas Chongo (Goddamn)
- Pink Bat (Talkin' Shit)
- I Told You I Was Crazy (Goddamn)
- Charmicarmicat (Bastards)
- Grinding Process (It always sounds like "Sticky fuckin' sticks" to me!)
There is something we are missin
im up to lysol right now
im sure there isn't any on houdini
but ill check it out anyway
blockbuster!

I can't tell if your being facetious.
Ipecac and pre-Atlantic albums wouldn't have the parental advisory sticker anyway.
No I am not being flippant. I honestly remember reading that in an interview in some place at some point. Specifics evade me though. But yup, that's what it said.
There's a cuss here and there but all an' all it's a pretty clean ship.

I remember reading that as well. I'm not sure what the source was, though.
from the pigskin EP: FUCK YOU AND YOUR FEELINGS!!!!!!!!!!
At the end of Dr Geek (I think it's Dr Geek) someone yells something like "that's it F'er". Though not a lyric, it's still on the track.

Yeah, I love that little part. Pretty sure it's Dale. Melvins lyrics are perfect I don't need cussing in the songs, that's too junior-high. The music itself is abrasive enough. There's some Buzz interview where he talks about the using of the f-bomb in lyrics and about how it's rather safe and not edgy/dangerous in any way in most of the stuff that passes as metal/punk these days. He's right on that.
New Art School has a plethora of F-bombs.
You all forgot The Anti-Vermin Seed!
I've always wondered if Buzz says "shit" in Manky as well.
By the way, I don't ever remember reading anything about Buzz not swearing because of parental advisory stickers.... but I remember him saying something along the lines as he wants the music to be the most offensive aspect, not the lyrics. I think he also said something like parents wouldn't really have a good excuse for disapproving of their kids listening to Melvins, as there's nothing offensive or edgy about the lyrics.
I do remember something about buzz and parental advisory stickers
i think he was jabbing bands that use it as a marketing tactic
Melvins - Butcher Town (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEGfcZtViOI#ws)
Melvins - You'll Be Taken Care Of (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHh_PvRyRqA#ws)
One m*therfucker and one c*cksucker, unless I'm very much mistaken. Plus a g*ddamn and a f*cking thrown about.
Buzz's own record label was Fuck You R*cords, of course; don't know if that counts?
This thread is Real Fucking Nasty
If Buzz was Australian, this thread would be about 56 pages long by now.

Not too many official lyric sheets, but;
Exi-tease my Ray day member
Master a load a head
General hash pump a gonna led
All quite offensive. Could bring Tipper Gore out of retirement.

I doubt these lyrics were intended to be sexual, but who knows?
While we're at it, hasn't there been talk about Ozma having some homoerotic qualities in the lyrics, here and there?

This.
I imagine Buzz was kidding if he said they don't cuss to avoid the parental advisory sticker. Otherwise there's no way Colossus of Destiny would have gotten into stores with it's loop of "stop fucking me your giving me a headache" about 50 times!
So there's a few direct hits. Thanks, everybody:
"Pink Bat" = shit
"Butchertown" = fucking
"Jacksonville" = fuck
"Starve Already" = fuck
"Charmicarmicat" = bastards
There is also profanity on a number of albums which is either sampled or said by another vocalist (Hold It In, Everybody Loves Sausages, Chicken Switch, Smash The State EP, Sieg Howdy!, Never Breathe What You Can't See, Hostile Ambient Takeover, Colossus of Destiny, The Crybaby, Mangled Demos, 26 Songs, King Buzzo EP).
I do remember Someone Asking buzz about Explicit lyrics and he laughed and said make sure your Album gets one of those Parental Advisory stickers on it, because that will generate at least 70K in Sales no problem. :buzz:
but He then went on to say that he didnt feel it was necessary to allow any profanities in his Songs Just for the sake of having it take away from the betterment of good lyrics and creativity.
I once used foul language in the house of the Lord. I was with friends and though my disrespect for this holy house would somehow make me be cool, hip, one of the gang.
As I exited the building an elderly black man confronted me about my actions. He spelled out his words when he talked. "Why do you use foul language in c-h-u-r-c-h-? Why must you be disrespectful to your G-o-d?
I figured it was the Devil so I hauled ass.
Did this have any effect on me? No, not really.
Happy Easter.

I remember it. He said that he didn't want for parents to have an excuse to not let their kids have Melvins records.
He spoke about it on the Loveline episode he and Mark were on, they said they only sticker you would see on a Melvins CD was the nice price sticker. Doesn't he say "God damn" during Little Judas Chongo?
I also liked somewhere in Neither Here Nor There how Buzz mentioned saying "fuck" nowadays is about as risque as wearing a bikini.
Buzz keeps it clean because "The Melvins are family entertainment on another level"
Beer Hippy, Track 3, Phyllis Dillard.
I wish I could change my mind,

OK, I guess I should've checked the album credits... duh.
I was directly in front of Pinkus during the show last summer, and I don't recall him singing lead on anything. I guess they didn't play certain ones from Hold... :-k

Yep, quite a bit on Working With God. Plenty of "fucks" in 'I Fuck Around' and '1 Fuck You' plus a helping of "motherfucker" in 'Bouncing Rick'.
Plus the backchatter in Hot Fish.
Well after 30+ years and 87 albums we've finally hit the main mark. A studio album where Buzz penned an original song with an f-bomb clearly sung as a lyric.
"My Discomfort Is Radiant"
I should also mention that on the King Dunn I'm Afraid of Everything EP there is another original Buzz tune where he sings "I'll kick it fuckin' out of here" or something.

You were correct. The song was originally released as "Real Fucking Nasty" on a split tour single with Halo Of Flies. Other Melvins gems included were:
– Smash The State
– Stalin's Solution
– Communist Concubine
– Useful Idiot
