Title: Songs that reference the Melvins
Post by: Honky13 on January 26, 2015, 07:45:19 AM
Just curious if anybody knows of songs which parody or reference the Melvins?

I know Anal Cunt did 'when i think of true punk rock i think of Nirvana and the Melvins'. 99% of thier songs are garbage, and this songs no different!

The awesome powerviolence band Spazz had a song on 'Sweatin to the oldies 3' which sounds like a loose cover of 'Crayfish' from 26 songs, and is even titled 'Mervyns'!!
I know Chris Dodge(spazz/slap a ham) put out a bit of wax for them, and i think he did the Ozma artwork too.

Are there other songs out there like this that arent proper cover songs??

Here's Geddy Lee talking about the Melvins.

Not songs but your thread works nicely with this stuff.

LK: King Buzzo! What kind of name is that? King fucking Buzzo?

DL: Can you imagine trying to pick up a girl in a bar? "Hello, my name is King Buzzo."

DL: Can you imagine trying to pick up a girl in a bar? "Hello, my name is King Buzzo."

This was a great read , thanks Grim.

I love this quote, when i read it it can totally hear it the way Lemmy would talk.

DL: Today I was there for THE MELVINS and it was barren.

LK: There is an interesting band.

DL: Yeah, they are. They remind me a little bit of the MC5.

LK: Almost, except that they don't have the drive.

DL: The singer has the Rob Tyner hairdo going, that's for sure. I can't remember his name.

LK: King Buzzo! What kind of name is that? King fucking Buzzo?

DL: Can you imagine trying to pick up a girl in a bar? "Hello, my name is King Buzzo."

LK: "Yes you are!" (laughs) I was that soldier. They do the worst version of "Green Manalishi" that I have ever heard in my life.

DL: I must have missed it.

LK: They open up with it. It is so slow that it is almost unrecognizable.

DL: Well, if they opened with it today it was unrecognizable!

LK: See!

There's also a looping sample of some of the drums from 'Cow' about 3 minutes into 'Soul Suckin Jerk'

"Buzz - In" by Boris

"Ah, how I adore this hair-do, it's blown up!
The gloves are high up, how I shiver and quiver!
Now, I am here to show my love and allegiance,
hurry up, go and dance to the ear-splitting sound!
Lesson two!
BUZZ-IN, the guitarist has his pocket turned out and shown
BUZZ-IN, he wears a purple bikini, and he has two sticks sticking out
of it, on his right and left
Here comes a big mosh!
"OMG, the music hasn't started yet!"
Can't resist this vibration
Can't resist this vibration
Can't resist this vibration
Can't resist this vibration
Yeah it rocks my ribs
Yeah it crashes my ribs
Yeah it rocks my ribs
Yeah it crashes my ribs
"You know, Joe was wearing a witch hat!"

Love it. Total Melvins worship!!
Havent listened to Boris for years and didnt know about this song.

Im sure there a probably more songs around which pay tribute to them.

There are quite a few decent Melvins covers on youtube aswell if you search around. There was a Melvins cover band on there playing a load of ozma/bullhead stuff at a house party, was pretty good. If i remember correctly they were called 'Teenage Tits'!?!!!
Obviously i wouldnt recommend typing that into google though!!

Anyone here a fan of Cave In? The last song Crambone on the album Beyond Hypothermia has a bunch of Melvins style lyrics. I guess they spent the day coming up with the lyrics before recording it.
