Title: If the Melvins did another "full album" tour
Post by: joelk on August 15, 2015, 05:36:21 PM
If the Melvins did another "full album" tour ala the Residency gigs, what albums would you have them play?

My vote goes to the entire Trilogy with new interpretations on Crybaby stuff.

Wishful thinking, but man this would be cool.

Eggnog/Bullhead is a classic pairing that would make for an awesome show :buzz:

As the Ozma/GPT combo cd was the first one that I overdosed on, I would love a shuffled live version of the whole thing

This would be probably the best show ever. Since they sorta already did it I figure go with stuff they haven't but I've always been under the strong opinion that EggNog is really the real end to Bullhead, ya know? I'm just really glad they picked Bullhead for the tour residency. I saw them do it in Chicago because the MPLS date hadn't been set, so for all I knew Chicago was the closest they were coming. It was a dream come true kinda deal. Of course it made sense to do Eggnog and Lysol together as well.
I like the Trilogy idea but I could probably do without The Crybaby.
If it was up to me I'd go with H.A.T. and Honky. NO WAIT! Two nights, 1st night H.A.T. and The Maggot, 2nd night Honkey And The Bootlicker. Yup. That's my 2 cents!

My liking would be:
1st day: Honky and H.A.T
2nd day: the anti-vermin seed

Anything short of Prick and COD would be amazeballs, but I would have to vote for STAG!  =D>

Stag is good choice a lot of good tunes I still haven't heard live

But the trilogy idea is good. If they shuffled stuff around it would be tremendous.

I'd be on board for any of the following along with Stag & The Trilogy:

Bullhead & Lysol (Never got to see the full album tours so I'd be hugely on board for these.)

Prick & COD & Eye Flys (An evening of punishment with the Melvins)

Tres Cabrones + Mangled Demos (Even if they could only do one gig like this due to Mike's schedule I think it would rule.)

bride screamed murder and 10 songs one day, stag and freak puke the next day. but I think we all know how likely that would be.

maybe in lieu of freak puke they could do everybody loves sausages or just all the covers they ever do live in one or two shows.

idk is so hard to chose but stag and ten songs would be killer

Back in 2002 they did play all of HAT live on that tour. It was pretty great Butthole for some reason wished they played something else, now he misses HAT stuff live. I don't know why I know that.

the first time i've seen them was in 2003, where they played some HAT songs. but since then i miss it... not to complain though!

I remember when they toured with the GPT reissue 12 or 15 years ago, they kinda did this. may not have played everything, but a lot of it.

Why don't Melvins play more tracks from the Maggot live? I have only heard a handful, thus, my choice would be for the Trilogy as well, but Stag would be amazing indeed; even 3 nights each city, playing each major label record from start to finish would be great.

Stag, a senile animal, nude with boots, ozma, the bootlicker, buzz and Dave grohl reuniting for his solo ep lol. Too many to choose

Solo EP trilogy could work. Buzz and Dale do their EPs together. Thrones opens and Joe does his EP.

From their main albums I feel like I've seen the least from Gluey Porch Treatments, Honky, The Bootlicker, The Crybaby and Hostile Ambient Takeover so that'd be cool.  I wish they'd at least play Mombius Hibachi live again.

I've seen the Melvins a zillion times and do not remember there ever being a lot of GPT material except for the first couple of shows I saw. I mean, they play Eye Flys a lot, used to play Leeeeech a lot, used to play At a Crawl a lot.....but what other tunes? Did I miss out on a tour I should have seen?

It also seems that a lot of the Kevin era album material is neglected these days with the exception of Let It All Be.

I do remember the HAT tour being very very HAT heavy.

Trilogy for sure.
Honky... very underappreciated.
Solo EPs... but then they'd have to get JOE back.

Wasn't it the tour with Dave Scott Stone on Bass and Adam Jones on additional guitar? Was that East Coast only? I dunno. Fuck, I don't even remember what year it was. I do remember they played Heater Moves and Eyes that tour

The SirDSS/Adam Jones tour was excellent.  2004, I think.. during the Kranky Claus movie tour.  I think Adam also played a few dates during the 2000 (2001?) tour with Kevin on bass.

STAG for sure, as mentioned several times

BOOTLICKER/HONKY one night, OZMA/GPT/10 SONGS another

Would be cool to see MAGGOT stuff again - they played a lot of it the first time I saw them in 2000 on the 2x4 tour but not really since.
And yea, whoever said it, the 2002 tour was basically all of H.A.T.
Also, sorta off topic, they should do a short tour with Kunka playing the 3 Men LP.

HAT without a doubt, closely followed by The Maggot or Stag.
