Title: Best Buzzo Vocal?
Post by: Sludgebaby on October 10, 2015, 07:46:47 PM
What song or live performance do you think shows Buzzo at the top of his vocal game? Has he gotten better or worse over the years? What album do you think has his best singing altogether? Discuss!!!

I know my favorite vocal style is the quieter, lower voice.  Annum, goose freight train, the bootlicker album, etc. It's menacing and a bit unsettling.

And when he says "THE LIIIIIEEESS!!!" from heaviness of the load. So cool!!

I'm hot for Female Troubles lately. The way that one and Missing have no guitar. His voice is as much an important instrument in the band as his guitar.

*and I won't post the video so Chief Dialup won't have a fit.  :P

I dig the swagger Buzz adds to "Onions Make The Milk Taste Bad" and "American Cow".
Those performances add a nice groove.

ive always thought anti vermin seed is pretty great. When Buzz starts getting loud, the hairs on my body stand up and salute him. I think he's definitely gotten better and better over the years, although I never thought he was bad. In my opinion when big biz joined the band it seemed to raise the bar and maybe brought more attention to the vocal parts.

of course, im a fan of most all of them, but i really like when he sings normal stuff more intensely like live versions of let it all be, roadbull, and amazon live versus studio. stuff like that i really like.

other than that, my favorite stuff is probably the ridiculous stuff that takes balls like pigs dont let it and influence of the atmosphere...

"when mans only distant relativeUH has descended on his own!!!! you will know!" just anything where hes really giving it hell.

"He watches the sunrise almost every day."  I know it's a cover but the melvins always own their covers. There's only one line in the whole song but it works.  I think he sung it perfectly. It makes you feel like he just sang a few verses but at the same time it makes u want more. Captivating! Simply marvelous!

If we can include covers, Buzz fucking blew my mind with his performance, vocally and stage presence, on Moving To Florida at Bash this past summer.

Every song on Lysol. I feel that Lysol was a huge shift musically and I also think buzz found his "big" voice on Lysol.  Everything before Lysol seemed to sound thinner. Not that any of it is inferior. Just different. I'm guessing that's when they sold their souls.

I've always had a spot in my heart for pitfalls in serving warrants. He uses a pretty cool effect on the vox and they're just so soft and nice.

Agreed - the Lysol tracks were the first ones that came to mind for me too.

Oh oh oh...SAFTEY THIRD!!! He uses that quiet, soft, menacing voice.
I think we can all be honest and say this topic will not end until hundreds of songs are named. Maybe it would have been a lot quicker to just ask what song don't u like Buzz's vocal on? I can't think of any. Anyone else?

Agreed. Usually im pretty critical of things but even i can't think of a single Melvins song with bad Buzz vocals. I will say im not much for the live rendition of 'Moving To California' but since it's not actually a Melvins song nor been recorded it doesn't count.
Moving To California?  :o

California...  florida...    they're both hot and about to fall in the ocean.

PS:  a buzz vocal I am not sold on?    the kicking machine.  the first two verses I could take or leave.     then buzz goes into the "keep me here to pulverize, I'm down for the many.  my god.. it's all remaining" part and totally redeems himself.

I´m listening to bulls and the bees right now and I have to say that, vocally, this is my favourite melvins-bigb record. especially war on wisdom is just great.

My favorite vocals from Buzz are definitely on the Live History of Gluttony and Lust version of "Night Goat". So coarse and gravely, and the screams are metal as fuck. I have a lot of favorite vocal moments but that takes the cake.

Ha, sorry for being cranky & complaining about that in another thread. It just seems like some threads are nothing but vid links with no personal opinions/words. Tell me why something is awesome and I'll watch it. Post all the videos you want. Sometimes it just seems like overload IMO.

So on topic:
yeah, I'd have to go with two extreme opposites - Hog Leg, & Anti-Vermin Seed.
