hey friends, I want to say that there was a post for this in the BBS already for the first record, but i'll be damned if I can find it.
Besides this is an ongoing band and everything... so i'll just make this the place for all of that, cool? Cool.
Short story: World's best drummer (tm), Mr. Dale Crover is the drummer for my thing... the Secret Friends.
That's the headline right? Well it also features Tony Ash (Coliseum, Trophy Wives, Dead Halos, etc.) on bass, Toshi Kasai as Auxillary dude and a revolving cast of awesome from other acts. (Eugene from Oxbow sings a song on the first record).
Who the fuck am I?
I'm a guy that has been kicking around and making music for about 16 years, touring and recording. In the noiserock outfit Replicator, post-punk/hard rock band Mount Vicious and big triumphant-y rock band Victory and Associates. I've made a ton of records, some people seem to like some of them a lot and 1.357 billion Red Chinese could give a damn, right?
Anyway. Secret Friends is where stuff is happening now and this is the new record: The Art of Murder (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/the-art-of-murder).
This is the front cover artwork:
Rick Froberg did it.
(note: i'd post the whole thing, but I can't seem to get it sized not to take up like 7 screens)
It's a concept record about and around Hannibal Lecter.
First song is Chesapeake Ripper (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/track/chesapeake-ripper)
so the link is:
https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/the-art-of-murder (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/the-art-of-murder)
We're teasing it out a song at a time, but $5 gets you the whole enchilada immediately, $12 for the CD (shipping in March), and $17 for the vinyl (shipping in late June... ugh!)
Also, the first record (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/the-enemy-of-everyone) is still available: "The Enemy of Everyone"
And yeah... this is now the thread for all of that stuff, cool? Cool!
Any questions?
Nice. I got turned on to victory and associates by one Chris frey of porch, another great band people should check out!
You gotta search this site by using Google.

I'm excited about this. Got the first CD. Love it. Love it more every time I listen to it. Even played it on a road trip and the wife had no complaints. :D

Ah! thanks man.
Yeah, I think the final Victory and Associates record (produced by Toshi Kasai) is the best thing the band did. Didn't exactly set the world on fire, but I stand by that record big time.
Also: Chris Frey rules!
Porch for-ever

Damn! I swear I used my Google and everything. No luck.
I think I got the thread title wrong.
And yeah, all Drums on both records are Mr. Crover. I think Toshi did a shaker on something if I remember right.
Man, now do I just leave this up or let both threads go... hmmm.
I swear, I don't just come here to spam the place. hahaha.
You're OK. Both are relevant.
good stuff. I like the new song! thanks for the heads-up...
Theres Happiness in my pants! :D
I liked the Chesapeake Ripper song so bought the download.
Looking forward to hearing the whole album especially being a concept album about Hannibal Lecter :)
Purchased. Running time approximately 38 minutes. Release date - March 1st.
I'm putting this download on a freaking 74 minute tape (both sides). :nerd:
**killer artwork, too!
Thanks gang!
Appreciate the attention and the nice things said, and of course... the $$$ too.
First song on the second "Side" is up to stream now too.
Quid Pro Quo (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/track/quid-pro-quo)
This one has some backup/harmony vocals by Dana Poblete of the excellent LA band Turbo Lightning.
I reckon this oughta be of interest.
I heart noise premiered one of the songs o (http://ihrtn.net/2016/02/premiere-conan-neutron-the-secret-friends-avid-fan/)n the new record: Avid Fan
(YAY!/Boo!/Who cares?)
It also happens to be one of the ones that a certain Mr. Buzz Osborne sings backup vocals on.
You can listen here (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/track/avid-fan), or at the I heart Noise soundcloud (https://soundcloud.com/i-heart-noise/conan-neutron-the-secret-friends-avid-fan).
Still only $5 for the whole thing digital, with cd and vinyl pre-orders in process.
ok?
ok!
Just noticed the first Conan Neutron & The Secret Friends album 'The Enemy of Everyone' is free/pay what you want now.

It is! I forgot to mention that.
It still costs on all of the normal places that it costs, but if you want to have a digital copy of it straight from the source.
Do it!
I'd call it the Kowloon Walled City model, but i'm pretty sure we did that in Replicator first, so they stole it from us and i'm stealing it back so more people can listen without feeling as if they are stealing at all!

Thanks man! PLAY IT LOUD.
I'm pretty sure we're going to have some videos for this album, we'll see how that shakes out, but if half the stuff happens that is supposed to it will rule!
Oh yeah, you can stream all of Art of Murder (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/the-art-of-murder) now too. If you want to check it out on a computer or smart phone. Still 5 bones to own the digital.
I'm told it is only a matter of weeks until we have the vinyl in hand, the date on the bandcamp still looks to be correct.
June 20th. They ship immediately after.
CDs ship now.
Thanks for your continued interest!
hi everybody, long time no talk?
Alright so in celebration of Bandcamp's day of action for Trans Rights, we'd like to present you with "Conversion (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/track/conversion)" a NeutronFriends song sung by our friend Ashley Altadonna from The Glacial Speed Conan Neutron-Guitar, Tony Ash-Bass, Dale Crover-Drums, Sean Kirkpatrick of Nervous Curtains-Piano, Moog, Synth.
A powerful song sung about the horrifying "conversion therapy" process.
This was released in conjunction with bandcamps day of action for trans rights (https://daily.bandcamp.com/2017/07/31/this-friday-stand-with-bandcamp-in-support-of-trans-rights/), 100% of the proceeds for this song go to the Transgender Law Center, a nonprofit organization that works tirelessly to change law, policy, and culture for the more equitable. Please enjoy, consider purchasing a copy and remember to support equal rights for all.
(Oh yeah, there are a couple of other tunes on there as well, and you can buy the whole Secret Friends digital discography for under $6 this weekend.
Also, a bunch of new Secret Friends stuff coming up soon. )
Just bought 'Perfectly Reasonable Deviations' looking forward to listening to it!
Been waiting for some new songs because neither of your albums fill up a whole cassette by themselves. :nerd:
A new Conan Neutron & The Secret Friends split single with Trophy Wives:

Dale Crover still on drums, I gather he won't be for the bands live shows in March?

Dale on drums 100% of the time, always. Every recording!
Yup, there will be 12 of these, one every month for the next year, including one volume with Dale himself on the other side. Everybody on the other side is involved in Secret Friends in some way, recording, live shows or just important to "the story". Trophy Wives is a band that Secret Friends member Tony Ash plays in. They are fantastic!
There's a possibility that Dale will be on drums for the show in LA, but i'd rather it be a nice surprise than promise something cool that won't happen. Chris Bolig from Replicator, Cartographer and Mount Vicious on drums for this tour... who even Dale called "a Beast of a drummer". It'll be a good run of shows.
One of these days the scheduling Gods will allow for a tour where DC can rock the drums with us and isn't busy with a million Melvins things. Then again: we LOVE those million Melvins things!
We've got two more of the splits out now, still available... still shipping out regularly (last batch just went out)
When they are gone, they are GONE! (as far as physical goes)
Atom 2: This one is fairly poppy for NeutronFriends: Hate Secretary
https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/protons-and-electrons-atom-2-hate-secretary-quivers-master-of-dirt (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/protons-and-electrons-atom-2-hate-secretary-quivers-master-of-dirt)

All available to stream for free, Atom 2 and Atom 3 will be on spotify and all that other stuff later this week. Atom 4 coming up soon.
Thanks everybody!
Oh yeah, Atom 12 is going to be the drummer on the other side. I expect that one is going to sell out super quick, but that's a Spring of 2019 problem.
Alright been a minute here.
Same thing I typed last time applies:
"We've got two more of the splits out now, still available... still shipping out regularly (last batch just went out)
When they are gone, they are GONE! (as far as physical goes)"
Atom 4: This one is one of my favorites of this batch! Paved Age (other band is the badass chicago band Nonagon)
https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/protons-and-electrons-atom-4-paved-age-nonagon-saffir-simpson (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/protons-and-electrons-atom-4-paved-age-nonagon-saffir-simpson)
Atom 5: Bit Commander grind! This is the Line (other side is one man noisenik and Tom Hazelmyer favorite REPTOID, who has been seen live playing the Dale parts live sometimes)
https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/protons-and-electrons-atom-5-this-is-the-line-reptoid-no-human (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/protons-and-electrons-atom-5-this-is-the-line-reptoid-no-human)
Atom 4 will be on all of the regular non-bandcamp streaming platforms this week.
The idea is: it's a month just on bandcamp, and then it's on all the other things after that.
ok rad! Hope you dig it.
We're hatching plans for some new stuff (beyond this) in early 2019, as always based around the Melvins schedule.
I forgot to post this one here, sorry!
Atom 6 has been out for a bit and ships immediately.
Protons and Electrons: Atom 6 - Petulant Messiah / Rally - HVAC (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/protons-and-electrons-atom-6-petulant-messiah-rally-hvac)
QuoteRally, a simple one word name, but a hell of a band. They are both catchy but have some skronk and grind. Michael from Rally has been a NeutronFriends sideman on the guitar numerous times, drummer Dan not only ran Conan and Tony's old label... but he has sat in with NeutronFriends on drums as well. I'm pretty sure this is their first release, looking forward to many more!
Oh yeah, NeutronFriends side is about messianic figures that turn out to be total jerks. It happens. The badass leads at the end are all NeutronFriends live guitar player Erica Strout of Motherfucker.
Great jumping jehoshaphat have I been remiss in updating this!
Alright well... Tony, Dale and I have recorded another new Conan Neutron & the Secret Friends record. That'll be coming out sometime next year, it's dark! it's moody! It's... in the future. Let's talk about the now.
Here are the other entries in the series, i'll give a little synopsis after.
Protons and Electrons: Atom 7 - Armies of the Mind / The God Eaters - Cluster Fuck Shit Show (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/protons-and-electrons-atom-7-armies-of-the-mind-the-god-eaters-cluster-fuck-shit-show)
Protons and Electrons: Atom 8 - Jilted Dragon / Turbo Lightning - Give a Man A Brain (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/protons-and-electrons-atom-8-jilted-dragon-turbo-lightning-give-a-man-a-brain)
Protons and Electrons: Atom 9 - Cop Knock / Cheap Sleaze - Freeze Queen/Troll Trap (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/protons-and-electrons-atom-9-cop-knock-cheap-sleaze-freeze-queen-troll-trap)
Protons and Electrons: Atom 10 - Amargosa State of Mind / Maple Stave - Thunderkiss '85 (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/protons-and-electrons-atom-10-amargosa-state-of-mind-maple-stave-thunderkiss-85)
Protons and Electrons: Atom 11 - The Vig / Cartographer - Turnip, The Cloth Clown (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/protons-and-electrons-atom-11-the-vig-cartographer-turnip-the-cloth-clown)
Atom 7 - Armies of the Mind. Dale thinks this song kind of sounds like Roky Erickson. I can hear it! B-Side: The God Eaters from Marquette Michigan are on the other side. A couple of these dudes play in the live band sometimes. They rule, just a stellar and unique band. RIYL: Vaz, Minutemen, Shellac etc.
Atom 8 - Jilted Dragon. Easily one of the poppiest songs we've done. At the time I thought it was TOO poppy. But people seem to dig it... it was a minor hit on spotify (whatever that means! Oh right, a payment of a few dollars for several thousand more streams hahah), I've come back around on it. Sounds like a heavy weirder version of the Pixies to me, but not in a bad way. B-side: Turbo Lightning is even poppier. Really cool outfit from Los Angeles. Jeff was in the Mae Shi who were a bonkers band in their own right. Dana did some of the backup vocals on Art of Murder too, Quid Pro Quo most notably. She rules.
Atom 9 - Cop Knock. A peppy little song about Police brutality. HAHAHA, starts with an actual knock on the studio door by Tony Ash (Toshi's idea), this one is fast paced... it features a guitar solo from Rick Valentin of the Poster Children. B Side: Cheap Sleaze which is Tony's Motorhead kind of punk rock band from Kenosha, Wisconsin. They manage to fit two songs into a one song space, the rascals. This is their only vinyl release.
Atom 10 - Amargosa State of Mind. An homage to the Amargosa Hotel and Opera House in Death Valley Junction. This isn't just the mellowest song on Protons and Electrons, it's probably the mellowest song we've ever done, but we all really dig it. Sean from Nervous Curtains/the paperchase on keys here and Josh Hensley from the rutabega on backup vocals here too. If you haven't, watch the documentary (https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B00BMEI212). I sold Buzz on watching it after describing the world making Marta Beckett did in great detail, he even got over his total disdain for people living in the desert (hahaha!) SIDE B= Maple Stave - Thunderkiss '85. Maple Stave is a pretty badass band from Durham, NC, he also has done all of the art for the series and has slanged some second guitar for us live before. They rule, this song rules... and yeah, hell of a name.
Ok, that brings us current to Atom 11, the second to last in the series:
edit navigation bar
Protons and Electrons: Atom 11 - The Vig / Cartographer - Turnip, The Cloth Clown
(https://f4.bcbits.com/img/a1514328975_10.jpg) (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/protons-and-electrons-atom-11-the-vig-cartographer-turnip-the-cloth-clown)
Cartographer is very closely tied to the NeutronFriends mythos, by nature of Conan being bandmates with Ben and Chris in Replicator, and with Chris and Andre in Mount Vicious. Without Replicator (and to a lesser extant Mount Vicious), there would be no Conan Neutron & the Secret Friends in any capacity. It's their first release in 8 years.
Cartographer is burly, aggressive and uncompromising noise rock. While the band members don't take anything too seriously, the music is serious as a heart attack. Pummeling drums, jagged guitar and bass that evokes pure sleaze and menace make a fully formed package of Noiserock(TM) delivery. I believe their song is about a birthday clown that wants to have sex with a young Ben Adrian's mom.
The Neutron Friends tune is an homage to a classic gambling term. The Vig (short for vigorish) is interest principal amount owed on a debt or loan, always at a usurious rate, with the idea being that the borrower never ends up paying down the principal and is indebted to the lender by just just covering the interest. The conceit of the song is applying those principles to psychic costs, but it probably works as a more dead on interpretation too.
--
Alright! so if you want to listen online that's the bandcamp link there and it'll be in the other places at the end of the week, then... shortly thereafter we will be closing the series with Atom 12 and a double dose of Dale.
Also: there might be a cool live show announcement that would be more Melvins related than normal, but there also might not be. hahah, we'll see.
Phew!
Thanks for reading.
Thanks for the update Conan, still love those two albums you guys did.
exciting news!

Thanks! There's a third record that we tracked earlier this year too... probably for 2020. I wouldn't expect a Melvins level of regularity, but we ain't slowing down anytime soon.
As for these singles:
These are all going to be released as a 2XLP comp and 2XCD too this fall, so anybody who isn't super down with streaming stuff digitally can enjoy it collected as an album as well.
These songs are all over the place, and not every one is going to be for every person.
That said: some of the songs in this series are some of the best we've done (IMO), and it's been a thrill presenting them this way.
SPEAKING OF WHICH, ATOM 12 of 12
Protons and Electrons: Atom 12 - Parade of Deceit / Dale Crover Band - Sell Out
Last one!

Protons and Electrons: Atom 12 - Parade of Deceit / Dale Crover Band - Sell Out (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/protons-and-electrons-atom-12-parade-of-deceit-dale-crover-band-sell-out)
Atom 12 is now up!
As always free to listen to on bandcamp, you can buy digital for $2 and you can pre-order the vinyl if you feel so inclined (ships mid next month)
This here, Parade of Deceit is a nervy lil' number about outrage fatigue and general disgust with the Newstainment Industrial Complex, confirmation bias and political actions designed to exhaust, demoralize and infuriate. Don't we all just love a parade?
This is one of my personal favorites of the entire series, and believe it or not I wrote the lyrics BEFORE the 2016 election. Obviously things have gotten even crazier and more insane since then, so it's still relevant
With a DOUBLE DOSE OF CROVER!
Dale Crover Band, in their first released recording of the live unit, meanwhile... give you a delightful homage/medley sure to please fans WHO listen.
Get it? GET IT?!?!
Wow... so there you go.
That's Protons and Electrons.
Also: for those of you into the limited edition vinyl thing. There are some of the other Protons and Electrons that are close to selling out. Because this one is Dale on BOTH sides and there's only 300. This one will DEFINITELY sell out.
We're allocating a small number for Conan Neutron & the Secret Friends tour coming up, and a small number to go out with Melvins after the Madison show in September, but if you want this one in physical form... get it now.
I'm giving the message board heads up before facebook, or twitter or anything, because y'all are our people and have been super supportive since the start.
A few notes, the vinyl for Atom 11 and Atom 12 are *FINALLY* shipping this week, which means after assembly they will be heading out. It also means it's unlikely that they will be at the Melvins merch table this tour, which... while irritating, is kind of how it goes with making records in 2019. Thanks to those that have been waiting patiently.
There are some of Atom 12 left online as well. (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/protons-and-electrons-atom-12-parade-of-deceit-dale-crover-band-sell-out), but supplies are getting REALLY low.
For those that are less interested in the collectibility aspect of things, all of the singles have now been collected into one place!
SW027 - Conan Neutron & the Secret Friends (Conan Neutron, Tony Ash, Dale Crover) - Protons and Electrons compilation (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/protons-and-electrons-compilation). Available for pre-order now. Atom 1-12 collected in a 2 LP and a 2 CD set. One NeutronFriends LP and one compilation of bands like: Dale Crover Band, Nonagon, Turbo Lightning, Trophy Wives and more. Protons, Electrons and Neutrons makes the atom.
3+ years of work comes to fruition! Artwork by the unstoppable Plastic Flame Press. Ships in early October, free to listen to NOW.
(https://f4.bcbits.com/img/a2017402597_16.jpg) (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/protons-and-electrons-compilation)
I know some people have given a miss to the singles, because they aren't into that kind of thing... so this is another way to listen.
For the CD fans amongst you, this is the first CD release since the Art of Murder.
As always, the most important thing is to listen though... you can stream it at the bandcamp link above and they'll be available as a compilation release in the normal places in the next couple weeks.
The remaining Protons and Electrons 7"s will still be available through mailorder while supplies last, and those that have ordered the box set of the whole thing will be receiving those ASAP as well.
Very impressed with this whole project. Thank you for the CD option, I think I shall order that.

Nope! Who knew such a weird name would be so popular though?
This one is from NYC and is genuinely MESSED UP. In a good way.
Hazelmyer thinks they sound like Brainiac, and I can see it. They've had a new album ready for forever, but it still isn't out.
I am sure it will RULE when it is.
Their last ep blows me away.

I've been playing the Protons & Electrons compilation all weekend, non-stop. This band consistently hit the nail on the head and I'm fucking hooked. I challenge anyone on this forum to describe it as anything less than awesome.
Hell yes! That is so awesome of you to say, thank you so much.
Protons and Electrons was an experiment to just try all of these different kinds of songs and just GO. Whatever they did they had to do it in the space of a single and just do it and get the hell out. Weird, poppy, raucous, relaxed. Whatever!
I was interested in seeing if people balked at that, but it seems like the folks that gave it a try mostly got what we were throwing down, so that's always nice to see.

Conan Neutron & The Secret Friends are releasing a new album in October 'Dark Passengers' with Dale Crover again on drums.
https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/dark-passengers
And yes! Now we come for the real reason why i'm here.... hahaha!
New record comin'. We actually tracked this in early 2019, and were going to release it earlier this year, as we all know. Stuff happened (tm)
Anyway, you can stream the new one here:
https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/dark-passengers (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/dark-passengers)
The Impossible Task, which is a big riff rocker, and then the title track is going up next week, then a song with a guest vocalist, then the whole thing.
You can also find it on Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/track/5x0fZsjYUoacM6skxPDwQK?si=o9JyNxYhSuWIYozHecGW0w), Apple Music (https://music.apple.com/us/album/the-impossible-task/1531024997?i=1531024998) and Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoowbzJ3CTI) if those are your preferred methods of listening.
Learning Curve records is putting it out and you can pre-order digital, vinyl and cd right now.
It's a record with an overarching theme of living and dealing with depression and imposter syndrome and we feel safe in saying that's something many of us can relate to.
(https://www.neutronfriends.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/DarkPassengers_Covr_Digital_3000x3000-1024x1024.jpg) (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/dark-passengers)
Alright, I think this is where i'm keeping all NeutronFriends stuff, and I searched around and didn't see it anywhere else.
So yeah, bumping this. Melvins related because Toshi producing and (duh!) Dale on drums.
I made a post about Dark Passengers (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/dark-passengers) already, but that record (put out by Learning Curve records) has either already shipped or is in the process of shipping.
There's a lot of heavy riffs, but it is a different kind of record, and we are pretty psyched about it. Of course, we didn't expect to be sharing it during a global pandemic but here we go.
If you are interested, buying a copy on bandcamp (digital, cd or LP) is always nice, but listening is free as is spreading the word. We're also running a special where you can get all 4 cds for $25. Which I think is a great deal (personally). That's just until the end of the month though.
Sorry, no way we can do that on the vinyl, shipping costs are already bonkers.

FWIW, this is the dark and introspective record, but both Impossible Task and Misery Machine are two of the hardest bangers I think we've done... your mileage may vary.
Awesome news! Thanks for sharing this!
I've got to say, that photo for the cover art is really great! One of the best record covers i've seen for a while.

https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/the-way-of-the-neutron
From the email:
Quote"The Way of the Neutron: Mini-anthems for overwhelming and far too interesting times, defiant fight songs for those counted out or not counted at all. Still here. Still operating.
The first dedicated full length album in 5 years. Blending heavy riffs, huge hooks and harmony with relentless abandon. The Way of the Neutron tells the story of an ethos, a life of uncompromising music and the perseverance of the creative good fight in spite of overwhelming content and stimuli.
Pre-order now to get WHO DARES?
"Who Dares? Is a mission statement song. Most attributable to something a super villain would scream as a hero enters the room, this is a song about not just surviving but thriving often against insurmountable odds. One challenge at a time, one step at a time, one punch at time, one round at a time. Featuring a simple guitar hook and a relentless menacing main riff, it is a motivational soundtrack to dogged persistence. Who Dares? I'm the one who dares."
More singles coming soon!"

hey!
That's true. I actually came back to the forum to post the same.
Crover actually does more back up vocals on this one than any other Conan Neutron & the Secret Friends record... confidentially: It is my favorite!
We very quietly put a faster one up to stream on bandcamp too. "Chekhov's Grift (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/track/chekovs-grift)"
Also Who Dares? is up on spotify (https://open.spotify.com/track/7lAvNFd5GCvURvAgXS4DsC?si=4349d465b1514259) and apple music (allegedly) and youtube and all the other stuff.
Sharks Keep Moving goes up this week on bandcamp, and next week for other stuff.
Whole thing will be up to stream at the end of the month... just in time for us to do this:
We also have a 4 date mini tour with Mr. Phylzzz at the end of the month.
If you have a few bucks rattling around that granmama gave ya, deeply appreciated to drop some of it on LP (there's a postcard set option!), CD or digital.
Oh that's cool. I haven't picked up the split yet, either, so maybe I can order both CDs.
Quote from: amazonAMAZON on March 10, 2025, 10:13:39 PMOh that's cool. I haven't picked up the split yet, either, so maybe I can order both CDs.
yeah! Adult Prom has some real bangers on it (if I do say so myself).
Super surreal to hear Lung do one of ours in their very specific and cool style and a blast to do one of theirs.
We should probably make a 2 cd bundle or something since it's a little less brutal to ship, but that's hard to setup.
SHARKS KEEP MOVING is streaming as of today:
https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/the-way-of-the-neutron (https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/the-way-of-the-neutron)
That's three up to stream for free on bandcamp... and only one on the other places.
from the thing:
Quote"Ah, the shark terror of the deep. A little known fact about them is most sharks must keep moving to ensure water flows over their gills for respiration. Otherwise they will perish. What better metaphor for creative resilience, as an an artist changes and evolves? It is a central theme of the record and the song and the band. Sound wise the Jaws like main riff ties the whole thing together. The verses evokes Gang of Four more than most Neutron Friends songs, but has a pleasantly surprising Desert Rock(tm) style bridge with a few choice phrases that tie into the 'not just survive, but thrive' mindset of the record."

It is Dale's favorite by far, and I think he's totally right.

Oh man, it was absolutely incredible. One of the coolest things i've ever done in rock and roll. All the crowds were great, all the other bands were total masters of their craft. People were polite, respectful and present and their public transit system is like a miracle compared to what we have.
Just as stunning experience the entire time.
ultimately it didn't even matter that the airline lost my checked personal bag and I had to buy clothes every single day for the first 6 days.
I'm so glad we didn't just play the big cities like Tokyo and Osaka either. We got waaay out there and those were some of the most of the chain ones.
My favorite bands we played with were Devils & Libido (https://linktr.ee/the.devils.and.libido) (crazy heavy prog/psych), NUILL (https://www.instagram.com/nuill.jp/) (Crazy intense Gravity records style hardcore/noiserock), and Lightning Swells Forever (https://lsfjp.bandcamp.com/) (Stoner rock that basically sounds like Japanese Black Sabbath!). There was a band called Coldfish that opened for us in Osaka that were the closest thing to Japanese Melvins we played with... but they are almost impossible to search. They were rad af though!
I want to go back!
Quote from: amazonAMAZON on April 26, 2025, 01:58:50 PMWho's drumming on tour? Is it the lady from DCB?
Hahahah, a bit late. Sorry.
The break between Japan and US tours was so brief, i'm shocked I remembered to login here.
But yeah... Mindee Jorgensen (https://mindeejorgensen.com/). Who drums for Dale in Dale Crover Band. She's also on the new record doing some percussion and a few other things.
She's a total badass and is definitely a member of the Conan Neutron & the Secret Friends family. Any aspiring drummers should totally take lessons from her!
There are two more legs of the Way of the Neutron tour coming up soon, one of them is going out to this in Seattle, which rules. Huge heavy bands in a roller rink (!), there's an area in the middle to rock out in front of the stage, and folks skate around it... and then more folks watch from outside the rink. Totally insane! We did it with Big Business and Lung a couple years back.
Dipping down into the south a bit in November too. Playing with We Are the Asteroid and a few other badasses. Originally that was going to end with us playing with the Jesus Lizard, but they had to cancel their tour. Total drag! Hopefully that gets rescheduled.

wow that poster is big, sorry.
oh yeah, there's a video for Who Dares? too.
There are... 2-3 more coming?
One of which is SUPER cool and noir themed, but it is also the poppiest song on the record.
We're trying to party like it's 1992 here! haha.

That sounds awesome. It would be a fascinating place to visit. Marty Friedman (ex-Megadeth) has lived in Japan for over 20 years now and anytime I come across one of his interviews I always make sure I read it as he drops plenty of insightful and interesting stuff about Japan. He says the underground rock/metal scene is really vibrant and the promoters, bands and fans are all hardcore passionate and help each other out, just sounds like such a cool little eco-system over there.
I've heard the public transport over there is absolute top class!

Whoa! Marty Friedman? That's wild... there was an ad from a guitar magazine that a coworker had at my second job. I wanna say... crate amps or something? And I saw it every single day when I went to my desk. I could have clocked that guy from 500 yards if he still looksed the same.
I didn't know that he lived in Japan, I feel like i've met a lot of ex-pats when we were there, and some were "mostly harmless" guys as far as their art, but there are a few people that seemed to really carve out a cool niche for themselves. Let's say this: I see the allure! hahah
Everybody is really engaged and present and excited about music, it really is wonderful.
There is a little bit of the "too cool for school" contingent, especially in Tokyo. But that's a rare, rare outlier. Most everybody was cool as hell.
People that came to the first Tokyo show showing up at the second and third and so on.
It is super cool to see.

Yeah! I love all of their records (obviously, I can't be impartial about Adult Prom), but I think they've brought out a really cool part of their sound on this one.
When we did the longer tour with them in 2022 they were already playing that song "The Money" and even though it wasn't recorded I had "you are worth the money... you are worth the money" stuck in my head every night.
This one (https://lunglunglung.bandcamp.com/album/the-swankeeper).
