Title: Water glass cadence
Post by: Bengerman on June 11, 2016, 12:26:58 AM
Does anyone know if the military cadence in the water glass is original or is it taken from actual military cadences? I just saw a commercial for the marines and it was almost identical to the Melvins version. I know I heard the rock steady roll ready part but I didn't catch all of it. The Melvins have a way of showing up in unsuspected places and thought maybe their cadence somehow ended up on a marines commercial.

I think they're all real military cadences.  I remember an interview with buzz where he mentions listening to a bunch of marines, on cd or something?

I also had an army veteran friend tell me that they used similar cadences.

Yes. They said it was a greatest hits compilation of their favorite cadences that made their final cut.

Just saw a snippet on Facebook that showed a part of this song on an Army Reserve commercial. Can't tell if it's the actual recording or not. The peaceniks, of course, are up in arms.  :D

I'll post if a YouTube link pops up.

It's kinda weird hearing it done not by the Melvins this time.

P.S. What is a Peacenik? I'm not nearly as hip as I come off to be.

It is an old cold war term to denigrate anti-war folks as communists.

They're totally using this in the commercial because the Melvins made it cool

Sometime I fire myself up in the morning by listening to the Water Glass in my car, singing really loud.

Huuuhh AH AH.... Huuuuuhhh AH AH

Try it while banging on your knee.

The best Melvins show I saw was in september 2010 when they started their set with the Water Glass

Would you say the song is half full?

Full disclosure: water glass is one of my favorite Melvin's tunes, the whole thing
