We'll be at the Spotted Dog in Alcester Street before the show in case anyone fancies meeting up.

I'm falling in love with Birmingham. Everything is cheaper there than Oslo, Copenhagen, Malmo, and everywhere else further south than it in the UK, and combined with a general friendliness, curry houses every 200 yards and old brick-built factories converted into venues, artists' spaces and bars, I'm finding it difficult to think of a city this size I'd rather hole up in.

Plus, I was in the same pub as Bill Ward there recently, which kind of makes it brilliant just for that.

The Spotted Dog was closed when I showed up, so we went to the nearby Wagon & Horses where the beer was exactly half what it costs where I live, met Jessi Eastfield and listened to Melvins' soundcheck over the road. Had a moment with Dale (and Steven and Gareth wandering around town earlier) which was nice.

Melvins started at 8.30pm with no support and with the most fun introduction to Eye Flys I've ever seen. It made me wish (again) that they'd make a whole set of just Eye Flys with a 65 minute intro. Steven fitted perfectly into that song; those mad chords were perfect! The other highlight for me was the Malfunkshun cover which was as heavy as fuck and probably still does Andrew Wood proud.

It was still light when the gig finished which made us laugh and go for a curry. Birmingham still rocks.

Technically Napalm are from Meriden which is just outside Birmingham. But close enough. Speaking of which, Birmingham is 44 miles away from me. I wonder if i could acquire any of that musical magic??

The most interesting scene was, after my opinion, the 2Tone scene in Coventry.
