that's weird!
the channeling of angus.
Hot damn! Pure awesomeness!
And DAMN it felt refreshing to hear the stuff performed with different gear/setup!
This deserves to be watched with the highest quality possible and right now I'm at the bookstore with a laptop that looks like a fucking toy, this piece of shit looks like an accessory made for Barbie.

I'm sure McDonald is a nice guy but his moves just come off as goofy to me.

Yes, i have to admit i wasn't fond of them there either. The band don't seem to mind though.

Yeah, bring back some winner with the right moves onstage. Screw maturity, responsibility, interpersonal skills..... we need Joe Preston back. #-o
Whose gear is this? Fu Manchu's?

have I mentioned I'm having a great day?
this is too good.
also, i LOVE steven!
Steven is so on his game, easily the best bass player since Mark D.

I'm reading this and my mind rejects the negative connotation, to me this sounds like a compliment actually :D
Love the goofiness. In fact that's one of the main reasons I'm so much into the Melvins in the first place. Without the sense of humor they would not be the same band.

Exactly!
I just watched the 3 videos with the highest quality that I can get here at home. Steve sounds great, Dale sounds killer but Buzz needed more volume or maybe more bass in his tone.
Yea, I agree, wonder if it's from playing in such a small space. Or maybe Buzz has forgotten how to play a real guitar (oh snap!).
Buzz? too much bass in his guitar tone? you know he's been playing through bass pedals and 15" speakers forever, right?
mmmh.i think Steven is such a good bassist and he adds a lot to the band's groove
also to me Buzz guitar sound seems almost better than with his normal live setup
Rewatched the vids, I think the guitar tone is good, it's a volume issue (soundman had one too many Lagunitas perhaps?). The real deal here is how well Dale can play a (to him at least) toy drum set. Like my name implies, the dude's a god!

that's impressive
Did you guys notice (in 'Onions..' i think) where Buzz had to momentarily hold the cymbal for Dale because it almost fell after being hit so much? Dependable stage hand Buzzo!
I agree Buzz did have too little bass/volume on his guitar in the mix, but I think in some aspects that guitar sounded superior to the ECG (sorry EGC fans :(). I didn't mind the ECG for a while, but Buzz used to use different guitars far more often, and personally I would be glad if now was the time for another change.
After watching some other bands that have done Jam In The Van, it's clear that the drum set is in house(or van if you will), but the other players bring their own gear. Maybe Buzz has returned to Gibson.

Alright! =D> :ohsnap:
You guys don't appreciate the sweet tone of P-90 pickups.

As goofy as say....
Buzz's Hair?
Buzz's Mumu?
Dale's Neglige?
Jared's Costumery?
Countless Melvins Album Covers, Album Names, Song Names, Song Content, T-Shirts, Stickers and other merch?
How the Melvins often act in interviews?
The band name MELVINS?
C'mon - this is MELVINS - do NOT take them so seriously. They don't.
Serious? Nah, but I never really found 'em goofy ... well maybe Jared yeah sure. Melvins always struck me as absurdist/demented rather than goofy. Steven is goofy ... fucking goofy even ... sometimes it fits but others (say Hag Me) not as much ... and its' constant ... constant goofiness wears a little thin after a while ... a little goofiness goes a long way. That being said, great bassist and on a musical level a fine addition to the fold ... I dig his background yelps and screams alot.

You forgetting 'bout that guy Corny Ass Joker I think?
Also, some weird overtones during Hag Me (0:46/1:06/1:27/2:10/3:11/3:31 etc.) almost bell or gong like ... can't figure out where its coming from ... guitar, bass, drums? Whatever, that shit sound freaking great!
As for the SG ... I think you guys hear alot with your eyes. Any guitarist worth their salt can get their tone outta pretty much any set up ... sure gear (gits, amps, effects) can help ya get there to a degree and add some subtle degrees that may be utilized and tweaked ... head, heart, hands ... that's where tone truly is. That being said Sg's are too super cool and Buzz should play them more. If anything I think amps are the biggest variable ... I always dug seeing Buzz kick it outta a silverface ...

Finally got around to watching this today and now for the second time.
This is sooooo good despite the guitar tone feeling somewhat thin. Dale's intros and Steven's charisma really take the cake though!
McDonald probably can't help it, he's been in a band since 8th grade (now 49) and then there's all that silver paint (the best btw) he huffed with his brother. :D
Yeah, I just re-watched Hag Me after a fatty and it (the goofiness of Steven) does add a weirdly lysergic and/or drunk on silver kinda queasy to the whole affair ... especially the way it's filmed w/ Steven as an in and out of focus kinda foil to Buzz.
I hope Steve sticks around for a while. I totally dig his shtick. Goofy or whatever you want to call it, he's fun to watch. And no more goofy than 'ol swivel hips.

Totally how i see it too. Interestingly i think he tends not to b as goofy when he was with Off! Although i guess it is the addition of his own mic in Melvins that contributes to it.
Not sure if this has been mentioned or not, but it looks like you can download the 3 tracks if you set up an account. http://www.jaminthevan.com/band/the-melvins/
'Deuce' is a Tuft cover?
I wasn't fond of Steve at first but he's growing on me.
