i am probably way more picky about shit that doesn't matter to most people, and the fact that i cut off his foot in the lower part of the frame bugged me.

I see what you mean, but in a way that's what makes it work. Had Buzz been placed slightly further back and in full, i don't think the image would have been as immediate. Seeing him depicted up-close like that leads us (the viewer) into and around the photo more than it would otherwise. It seems like he is stepping out of the picture. For me, that heightens the dynamism of what's going on. You are more aware of the space around him and that things are moving. That it's not just a stationary, static shot.
