I haven't heard them yet and want to know which one was the best.
the maggot is a runaway right now.
Without doubt The Maggot. Really raw and powerful songs
The Bootlicker is the best !!!imo
bootlicker is the best partly coz its so unique for the melvins and also coz its just so good.
The maggot is pretty good - but there's nothing new there.
bootlicker
maggot. :D
Bootlicker....it's much more of an accomplishment that the Maggot.
But the Maggot's really good too. No question.
What you should really be asking yourself is: "Do I want to rock and roll (the maggot), or do I want to trip out (the bootlicker)?"
They're just two completely different albums.
Get 'em both!
Alnis
I can't believe no one has chosen The Crybaby yet. I listen to a few songs and apart from the Smells like Teen Spirit cover it's pretty good.

I'd say the Crybaby is my least favorite Melvins album.
divorced is one of my favorite melvins songs.
I CANT PICK!!!
c'mon Ramblin' Man is fucking great
Allow me to clarify. Yes most of the songs on Crybaby are good, but the album in my opinion is totally bereft of the Melvins. Yes, they play on all of the songs, but can you tell? For this reason it is my least fave "Melvins" collaboration album.
G.I. Joe is my fave song from it and I would rather hear the has been teen idol Leif Garrett sing S.L.T.S. any day than to listen to that Foetus track.
wouldn't call it the worst.
I'd go with something like Prick just cause of the fact that it is unlistenable for the worst.
The Melvins have played their own music exclusively for so long that to hear how they play with others is refreshing. They have all kinds of musicians on the album, making the musical scheme broad. The scope of the album is impressive.
but it always comes down to opinions.
the Crybaby fucking owns!
crybaby sucks.
i do like alot of the bands they worked with, but i have only listened to it once or twice.
worst melvins record? hello Prick?
further listen I'm starting to agree with Lorax. The crybaby seems cool in it's concept but ultimately fails to engage. It's like casual listenin Melvins, it just doesn't work
maggot, but all are worth owning.
I usually enjoy listening to all three, in order, in one sitting.
The Maggot is my favourite but I like the others a lot too. The Crybaby I don't listen to much but I like almost all of the songs. Although a couple go on way too long. And Moon Pie is a load of shite.
Maggot for sure and See how pretty, See how smart in particular.
who's got the trilogy on vinyl besides me? oh yeah, mark me down for the bootlicker, the piano song after prig is over clinches it for me. such a nice almost ballad song from the MELVINS. excellent.
whoooaaa wot a close vote - its like the presidential election except either side dont hate eachothers guts's
Although The Maqgot sure be cool, I definitely would pick Bootlicker as the best of the trilogy.
I've been listenin to all of them recently but I'm not sure which is my favourite yet. It's either The Maggot or Bootlicker.
I'm leaning more towards the Maggot cause I'm a huge Peter Green fan.
I like all of the tracks on The Crybaby, but they don't really hold together as an album. I'm never in the mood for all of it. The Maggot and the Bootlicker both rule.
The bootlicker is amazing.Lots of first nation indian feels into It.Magic and hypnotic...And God created the Melvins.

that's a sweet little number
The Maggot is overrated. It's an okay release in general terms but it's still the Melvins on autopilot.
The Bootlicker gets old pretty fast - great before the extreme dullness of most of it gets too much to bear.
The Crybaby, even though it'd got some crud on there (the Thirlwell track and Patton's GIJoe come instantly to mind here) is the most interesting to me...so I'm one of the two people who voted for it. Go Crybaby. Er, yeah.

I couldn't agree less.
The Maggot is the heaviest MELVENS album and one of my absolute favorites. I can't imagine why annyone would think they were "on autopilot."
I think
The Bootlicker is pretty great too. I don't find any of it at all dull.
Bootlicker is the most powerful of the three in an understated, sedated way.
Your thoughts?
I like putting them all in my CD player and putting it on shuffle. Then you get the world's greatest Melvins album, sort of like their "White Album". There were a couple tunes on "The Crybaby" that I didn't like that much, but mixed up with the other two it's pretty interesting.
I love how the Melvins take chances and don't care about being misunderstood. The greatest bands have always had the same kind of attitude.
Crybaby's shit and the Maggot's never fully clicked with me in the same way as Bullhead or Houdini with me...so, yeah, Bootlicker it is because it's the Melvins easy listening record.
Anyone who doesn't like any of the trilogy CDs should be banned from the board, concerts and should be forced to burn all their merchandise.
I like the Maggot the best, but the Bootlicker comes in second, so I pretty much am like the rest of the board.
Bootlicker is my favorite. I kind of came into the "melvins world" oddly in that the bootlicker was the first melvins CD i bought! I had heard great things about the band and bought it on blind faith. I thought it was amazing and i figured thats how all of their stuff was. Imagine how surprised i was after buying my second cd of theirs, Houdini. The best thing about Bootlicker is the lyrics. The second part of Let it All Be is simply perfect. The bass playing throughout the album is also great.
Bootlicker is insanely good. It is one solid album, better than the others. I've been listenin to all of them together for a while and this one calls me back the most.
Yeah the Bootlicker is all about Bass. I love how mellow Let it all be is and how heavy it is live. I don't think it's an easy listen at all. It's pretty eery. Maggot is one of their best ever i reckon. It's like they made heavy metal interesting again.
the melvins made the maggot album after playing at ozzfest and seeing all these crappy "metal" bands...so therefor they decided to make a giant slab of evil REAL HEAVY METAL.
and thats what they did :)
but i think its a really good record even though its the least nuanced.
I like all the melvins` records... hard to be picky...
I like what the Bootliker does. It's an interesting album, and I listen to it a lot. But the Maggot is way more listenable to these ears. I just love it's power and excessive riffing. The song structures are just as genius on Maggot as they are on Bootlicker, imo. But I don't think tinkering with ideas in metal riffing in general is as respected by some around here as the musical turn the Melvins took on Bootlicker.
The Bootlicker gets dull (to me) sometime around 'We We' and then resparks my interest at 'Jew Boy Flower Head'. I honestly think that "Let It All Be' is one of the best Melvins songs ever laid on these ears.
I would say I listen to both disks equally depending on my mood, but ultimately, I tip my hat to the Bootlicker.
Imagine if they had merged the Maggot and Bootlicker into one and took out some of the fluff. Why, they would have the best disk ever to be called "the Maggotlicker".
ahaahahah "Maggotlicker" that's glorious
I do find there is filler on The Maggot but for me, every track on the bootlicker stands out and I would miss anyone of them were they removed.
it all depends on the mood as to which album gets my attention. the maggot when i'm wantin it loud and the bootlicker when i'm twistin one up and kickin back.
god bless em for realizing the need for these two different albums.

It
yeah, NOXAGT rule :) they are SICK live !
you should check out
So the message is: EVERYBODY SHOULD CHECK OUT NOXAGT.
The bassist and founder of the band is a HUGE Melvins fan, so they have had some influence on the music. You can get both their full lenght albums on Ebay.
The Maggot, but The Bootlicker comes pretty close
Colossus of Dest-- Oh, waaaaaaait....
Bootlicker is easily the best.......probably the best album Melvins ever did along with Stag.
I can't decide between Maggot and Bootlicker.. depends on the mood I'm in. I don't see the Crybaby as a Melvins album, more of a collab between Melvins and different artits.
I thought the last two were fucking terrible. So bad. Talk about a cash in. The first was really original and blew my mind when it first came out in 1998. Everyone at school was talking about it back in the day, I kept on coming back but the other two are just nowhere near the fiirst one. not even close. I can't work out were they went wrong, it was bad production or lack of funds or rushed job? Who knows? It didn't even end up making sense. Personally I think they were forced to make it and just had no choice which is why the last two are so different to the first.
So in conclusion I like the first one the best fromthe Trilogy. Trinity was by far the least annoying in that one too.
Ha!
THE MAGGOT. No contest. Maggot and Bullhead are easily my favourite Melvins records.
Bootlicker is damn good, too.
Hell, it's Melvins. It's all good.

Wrong trilogy!
Ha, that's too funny.
The best one is Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. I have the re-mastered ones with the extra footage. The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi were great, too, but you just can't beat the storyline and character development of A New Hope.

Empire is my favourite, but Jedi has the best lightsaber battle
Excellent choice though. New Hope has Porkins.
As for the Melvins, the whole trilogy is fucking ace.
Something different for any kind of mood.
ok, now back to the subject. Bootlicker is probably my favorite since it's the most original and melodic, but again, it depends on what mood you're in. Gotta love how they play sorta pop melodies, but twist the structure around enough to "Melvinize" them. Maggot definately has some of their greatest riffs. Crybaby is in 3rd place in my book, but still a great listen with a lot of variety, even though it's all over the place.
The maggot. Duh.

Bootlicker was the first Melvins album I went and got back in 2000. During the first listen I thought "what the fuck is this shit", they trolled me pretty good enough for me to iignore them for at least couple of years. My loss I guess
i was totally shocked when i heard Bootlicker for the first time..i thought Buzz was a genius, which i still think
