Title: why the melvins are incalculably better than U2
Post by: spread regal beagle on December 01, 2004, 08:43:56 PM
1. cause the melvins never wrote 'Vertigo'

2. cause Buzz doesn't suck everyone's dick like Bono.

I see no correlation between the Melvins and U2. But I'm bored so I will post. I truely think it is a matter of preference. Sunday Bloody Sunday is a damn cool song. Alot of their stuff they were putting out then is pretty cool & original. I also have a hard time calling them sellouts or whatever. They have just become boring and preachy. The albums from War to The Joshua Tree were pretty groundbreaking. Even Achtung Baby was pretty solid. In my opinion, though, I would take the Melvins all day, everyday. I dont even own a U2 album.

ain't no correlation, i just think U2 suck so damn bad. Good grief, do they ever suck now.

Those old albums are ok at best. I've listened to em and I have Joshua Tree but the new stuff sucks. Daniel Lanois saved that album.

anyway, this should be about how the melvins are better than U2

so post ways if you got em.

Dale is king, larry sucks.

I don't own anything by U2 either. I had a copy of War when it came out, but I was like in 8th grade. Listen to the first PIL album and hear where the Edge got his guitar style-it's Keith Levene all the way baby.

Known most for his early membership in the Clash and also for his slicing, slashing guitar work with Public Image Limited, Keith Levene is one of the more overlooked key players of punk and post-punk, not only as an innovative guitar player but also as a major factor in punk's sound collision with reggae. Since leaving PiL during the making of their fourth record, Levene has worked sporadically, popping up every now and then with a new project.

Bizarrely enough, the punk pioneer got his start in music as a roadie for Yes in the early '70s. Through a former schoolmate, Levene weaseled his way into helping Alan White

Holy crap! Thank you very much Cliff Klaven. Seriously man, are you into PIL? Have you heard " Radioaxiom " by Jah Wobble/Bill Laswell? Got anything for trade?

On an unrelated note it is now Summer in Antarctica.

this thread sucks

I'm just glad the melvins are around so we're not all forced to listen to U2. I know it pleases some, it just disgusts me. That song Vertigo is the worst song in rock. Those asinine lyrics....blah

Man U2 suck so bad - bono has the most over-inflated ego of all time. The name of their new album i cant even mention it is the gayest, most try-hard album name i have heard in my whole life...

... oooo yea this album sounds like wot happens when you try and dismantle an atomic bomb - its just that powerful!!!! It could kill 100000 people in Japan even.

And that song vertigo sounds almost exactly like an old pop-song - 'You keep me hanging on' - and when i hear it i am always amazed that i can sing the old pop song over it almost note for note.

This is a good thread - get some frustration out. Their should be more threads like this.

while listening to "vertigo" on the ipod commercial i realized that it has almost an identical singing melody to sonic youth's Dirty Boots!! it is so sickening.  they totally ripped them off.  listen to it and you'll see.  especially like the third line when the music changes a bit and he says something about "jellyroll"

someone listen to it and write back because i want to see how much it disgusts other people.

Second Edition is the US version of Metal Box w/ the same material. Metal Box was a very limited edition of 3 12'' discs in a metal film can.

Shouldn't even be discussed. It's like saying eating a steak is better than eating a fresh turd.

I fucking hate U2 and their fans with a passion. I love how those fucks are on network TV every 5 minutes plugging their new shit w/ the ipod. Those fucking whores don't have enough fans and money?, they have to advertise on TV? Die, Bono, die.

thank you delerium for changing the subject...but I'm glad so many people agree with me. However, this thread should be in the all things not Melvins section. I was hoping it could have more to do with the melvins and less with U2.

The song Pigs Of The Roman Empire is a truly magnificient song. I would even say it is one the the Best Melvins' songs (gasp....did I really say that??)

I was reading this one a few weeks back.
Fuggin' hilarious!
I still love U2's earliest stuff.
That's;
Boy

October

War

Under A Blood Red Sky (live)

The Unforgettable Fire (except In The Name Of Love - enough of that fucking song, already!)

Wide Awake In America (2 great b-sides, 2 great live songs)

A few things on The Joshua Tree (God's Country, Bullet The Blue Sky, absolutely not the 3         interchangeable hit songs from hell, with dumb videos!)

The In The Name Of Love / 3 interchangeable dumbass hits
from The Joshua Tree marked the end of what was
a truly promising band in the early 80's.

Just bumping this thread because it's been a decade,
and while the Melvins get better all the time,
U2 gets exponentially worse all the time!
Bono is the definition of sucky, ass-hat,
douchebag, preachy, politically correct has-been,
who needs to go away and swim in his $$$$ like Scrooge McDuck!  :x

It's pretty slick, with a remix and a vignette called "Alex Descends Into Hell For A Bottle Of Milk".
That's a reference to A Clockwork Orange.
