bundle.
The melvins retire. Buzzo needs to focus on supporting trumps campaign. Dale decided to move to milano and steve got an offer from cirque du soleil as full time clown.

Well it's a strange one. Have they ever done that before? The fact the date is Halloween suggests it's probably something spooky and related in some way. A Melvins TV episode maybe? I hope it's more treat than trick!

Haha!
"the gop is fascist"
I think it has something to with FLD since they are using a graphic from the album cover. Live acoustic show? which will then be recorded and released as a companion piece to FLD in 2 - 4 months. If you think about it, a live acoustic album is the one type of release they don't have in their catalog!

If i was trying to guess seriously i would say it's either some Halloween bundle or merch like Vince suggested or as you propose some kind of special one off show. I'm not expecting a release from this but i hope i'm wrong. Rather annoyingly i'll be at work when they make the announcement. I'll have to wait to get home!
Special sale of tour merch inventory?
I hope it's the release of Thud for real. ;-)

For fucks sake.
Yeah. I feel kinda bad for them tbh. Bands have been financially desperate since covid and it's ugly to witness.
2022 was a great year to be on the road. Veeps / the venue wanted to record and stream the show. The standard stream is an AI-based edit and does corny pans and zooms and generally feels random -- not as good as a real edit of the high quality video capture. The venue is equipped with several high quality cameras, so it's an opportunity to present a concert in a multi-camera format that generally wouldn't be feasible. So we are doing a real edit and presenting it the way the band desires. That takes some time, hence the air date.
Plenty of people were bummed to miss out on the 100+ live shows this year -- especially those outside the United States. This is a chance to share that experience with those people that is heads above the standard phone camera at the live show YouTube fare. In addition to the show, there are other pieces to the program that will make it a unique experience.
We hope that those who choose to watch it enjoy it, and appreciate the fans.

honest question, no snark: why is this 'ugly'?
ten bucks for a pro-produced live show at a cool venue seems like a perfectly reasonable product and price point from a band i enjoy

That's good to hear and I want the band to do well, this streaming announcement just looks like a post-tour cash grab at first glance.
Like how is this different from the proshot Halloween stream at House Of Vans a year ago which was free?
But if the opportunity at Irving Plaza worked out organically, all the better.

Granted, 'ugly' is a bit dramatic of me. But the "special announcement" of it all feels just as needy as every other band churning stuff like this out currently. It's a good product for a fair price, absolutely. It's just not for me so I think I'd better shut up about this stuff in future.
Not sure I would call this a 'financially desperate' move given the Melvins have just done three tours this year and would've cleaned up financially in 2022. The reality is Buzz/the band love making money hence all those expensive frisbees they put out on AmRep limited to how many they can sell.
Doesn't seem desperate to me, I like pro-shot, pro-edited live shows. Hopefully a Blu-Ray in the future?
I feel i must clarify that my initial response of "for fucks sake" wasn't directed at this video as such but more how it was announced. I felt deflated expecting some big, unexpected or super exciting news. Maybe even a new record! So to just find it was a stream of a live show from the recent tour felt very underwhelming. On the whole i like the idea but to say "special announcement" and then to just be that seemed a unnecessary and a little gimmicky.
At least it's not another cover album. I also hate when bands say "special announcement coming" what good does that do? Just announce the damn thing 😅

Building hype? It certainly worked with the folks on here.
Every business does this stuff sports teams will hype "big signing coming soon" and the next day announce some end of bench scrubber has signed on. I know it's not nice if you follow that team/band with the inevitable deflating reveal but they do it to try and cut through the noise and draw attention.
It's called Marketing, people! The Melvins are a business. We buy their products, we follow their brand, they make money off of us. They can take my money all day long
