Title: What Melvins fans need
Post by: Binkard and Friends on December 11, 2004, 06:45:45 PM
a completely balls out, unihibited, visceral return to the nasty sludge the Melvins made in the late 80's/early 90's

no collaborations, no Adam Jones, no gimmicks. King Buzzo, Dale Crover, and Kevin Rutmanis (or someone else?)

but we need something to give us back the faith in the Melvins as a band completely on their own. perhaps something like Bullhead for the new millenium. heavy, frightening, and 110% Melvins.

They should do whatever comes to mind, untouched, and unique.

So if they decided to release a jazz-album you would listen to it? I know I would....

Like that song 'I Like Porn'? I don't know about you guys, but I think that song kind of sucks. I'd probably still buy the album though....
I think that them playing with Biafra is their idea of giving the fans what they want in a way. I'm sure that they know what their fan base likes to listen to. I thought that the Maggot was about as close as they could come to the heavy shit that they were putting out in the early 90s and late 80s.

i think their recent output has been a little bogged down by outside influences (Adam Jones, Lustmord, Jello Biafra, Crybaby album)

Speaking of compilations, what about 3 men and a baby, that album with mike kunka.

Ok, so sometimes all Lustmord added was some dull ambient noises. And Jello being around took the melvins sound a bit backwards. But Mike Kunka knows how to rock. Listen to songs like "Another Schizzoid Ambellesim" or "Nutritious treat". He's got some killer grooves going but only an OK drummer.

And another note, Adam Jones isn't too bad. I don't dispute his influence. Dave Scott Stone rules too.

Listening to the Orlando bootleg (2004.09.24) right now, I can't help but respond to this thread, which has irked me since it began.

The melvins are TOP FORM right now (problems with Kevin aside). What melvins fans need are for the melvins to progress in exactly the way they are doing right now. There is no question that theyir live set is the best it's ever been. Really really really amazing. And the studio albums (Biafra aside) are outstanding (HAT and POTRE). If the current live sound is any indication of what to expect in future releases, I say STAY THE COURSE! There is nothing wrong and everything right with what they are doing right now.

Melvins fans don't need the melvins to change, the melvins need their fans to change.

Despite all the opinions in this thread (and yes it's a damn silly thread), they're gonna move on and do whatever the fuck they want.

I just cross my fingers for the end of compilations.

I TOTALLY AGREE! Yes the new trend with POTRE and NBWYCS is different, but they ARE in top form. They continue to innovate and stay creative when most bands of 20 years go right down the dumper. I am sure we will be hearing a more "traditional" Melvins release sometime in the future as well.

the fans should get what Buzz & crew thinks they need.

but yeah, Bullhead is an awesome album it would be cool to see them go in the direction for the new album.

POTRE is now in my top 5, surpassing bullhead.

i just don't like those little lustmord farty sounds, but its better than buzz

playing one note (exorcism) oversludging it (your blessened) three minute

drum solos (inthegardenofeden) or just plain old ligature.

i prefer the zzzz best drum solo and have grown very accustomed to III.

Come on guys!

If we scream loud enough for an LP which sounds like Bullhead we'll almost certainly get something new, progressive, original and nothing like Bullhead.
