Such an easy Yes from me. Super excited. Maybe we'll finally get those rare ass Bellringer tracks.
There's already a rehearsal version of "Ashley" which is awesome. I might still prefer the Nights of a Dead Soul version, but this is a great start to the Patreon.

Kevin will probably forever be my favourite Melvins bassist, but in terms of ability and songwriting, Mark is far, FAR out ahead of the rest.
Mark is asking for any topics you might want to hear him talk about on his instagram page https://www.instagram.com/markdeutrom_official/?hl=en

Where did he get those two tone shoes? Pee Wee Herman?
I like how Mark sometimes has this bowling alley chic style. I miss that in the Melvins now.
Buzz is sometimes bowling alley, but never chic.
I just learned some cool stuff about Stag from Mark D.

He also posted a third "solo" track that was considered for Stag along with his tracks Yacob's Lab and Lacrimosa. I would subscribe - there is going to be a lot of cool shit coming up along with what he has already posted.

I once seen a live vid of them with Buzz on bass for that tune. It was outdoors somewheres.
Could have been Lollapalooza 96. I saw that tour. Right when they got done with their set, the Cows played on the next stage over.
That's probably it.
I tried to find it, not the same vid I was thinking, but maybe?

Good video, thanks for the link. Buzz does seem to have a distinct way of playing bass.
they would switch a lot back then. i remember June Bug and Tipping The Lion in particular.

Good question - I hope so, it doesn't seem like things ended all that great with all of them, hence "The Silent Treatment". As a fan of both artists, I would love someday for their to be a reconciliation - but, I also know that stuff sometimes is beyond that.
I went back and listened to the first half of Stag this morning - what an epic masterpiece - and having these new insights from Mark is great.
I would love to see the same kind of thing with all of the members of the Melvins!
besides songs, i think what makes both Stag (and Stoner Witch) two masterpieces is the production.compared to those albums Toshi's recordings (especially recent) sound as demos

The overall sound of those two albums is insane.
All of the Atlantic albums had amazing and really good mix of sound. Back in 2018 I ate some shroooooms for the first and only time in many many years. I laid in my bed and listened to Stag and it was my modern day version of what all them darn hippies did in the 60s. Was such a fun roller coaster ride! I can't wait to watch this one. Kinda too bad these stories couldn't have been part of the COD documentary but I'm really glad he's doing these.

What a great story! Shroomin' to Stag! I used to listen to a lot of Lysol on Weed and LSD in my early twenties - but Stag on Shrooms seems like a magical combo!

He produced Rock N Roll Nightmare by Rich Kids on L.S.D. which is one of the greatest albums of 1987 (the best year for music ever). I cannot wait to dig into this!
These are really cool videos, full of interesting information.
I also like that from time to time you can see the cover of dark magus right behind marks head (if I am not mistaken). Awesome record!

That is indeed Dark Magus!
That Neurosis debut is a good one. 1987 was also Locust Abortion Technician, Appetite for Destruction, Criminal Minded, Bum Rush the Show, Scum, and Gluey Porch Treatments (though for some reason I had pegged this as 1986 in my mind. Maybe because Six Songs came out then?)
I'm still rather arsed beyond that. Dischord was in a weird transitional state. Sub Pop hadn't really launched. Hip hop was dragging its feet aside from those two seminal albums I mentioned. Anarchopunk was rather dead. Detroit hadn't quite produced acid yet. Dance music in the UK was goofy as fuck.
It was an OK year for compilations like the Dukes of Stratosphere, Give Me Convenience, or the Smiths. I fucking hate U2 generally, so I don't really care how great Joshua Tree was.

Those are amazing years too!!!!
OK - 1987, I was 14/15 years old - so that might have a lot to do with it. Started going to see punk shows and skateboarding and smoking pot too, so that fits in with the scene too! 1986 and 1988 also hold a special place in my heart for music!
Top 5#1 Album of 1987 = Melvins - Gluey Porch Treatments
#2 Album of 1987 = Redd Kross - Neurotica
#3 Album of 1987 = Rich Kids on L.S.D. - Rock 'n Roll Nightmare
#4 Album of 1987 = Rollins Band - Life Time
#5 Album of 1987 = NoMeansNo - Sex Mad
#6 Album of 1987 = Butthole Surfers - Locust Abortion Technician
#7 Album of 1987 = Soundgarden - Screaming Life
And then in no particular order:Dirty Rotten Imbeciles - Crossover
Metallica - The $5.98 EP - Garage Days Re-Revisited
Descendents - ALL
Dag Nasty - Wig Out at Denko's
Ramones - Halfway to Sanity
Bl'ast - It's In My Blood
Meat Puppets - Mirage
Negativland - Escape From Noise
Sonic Youth - Sister
Honorable mentions, or albums I really was digging then:Whiplash - Ticket to Mayhem
Excel - Split Image
Death Angel - The Ultra-Violence
Exodus - Pleasures of the Flesh
Circle Jerks - VI
Red Hot Chili Peppers - The Uplift Mofo Party Plan
And albums I wasn't hip to until wayyyy later that came out in 1987 (if only I had Spotify back then or a lot of extra cash!)Anthrax - Among the Living
Neurosis – Pain of Mind
Napalm Death - Scum
Pixies - Come On Pilgrim
Death - Scream Bloody Gore
Tom Waits - Frank's Wild Years
Public Enemy - Yo! Bumrush The Show

Yesterday I saw Mark had posted a live Clown Alley show from 1986 on his YouTube page:
Is it just me or is he wearing the same shirt ten years later? And I thought *I* hated shopping for clothes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMWvAjyFfDs
I remember on the Melvins 1997 Australian tour they were on a popular youth live TV show 'Recovery', I think they were guesting as the house band and at one point Dylan the host interviewed them and asked about Kurt and Buzz made some really bad comment something like "Kurt lost because he's dead" and laughed and Deutrom followed it up with something too like a comment or snigger.
I knew Buzz was close to Kurt and probably made that comment more to be controversial and draw a negative response from the crowd, any publicity is good publicity etc but I never liked Deutrom after that for joining in.
I feel a bit sorry for Mark. I know on his YouTube channel he occasionally talks about other topics, but it seems he constantly has to answer Melvins questions or make his videos Melvins related to have any engagement or interest. I wonder how he feels about that. Does it annoy him that his 40 year career in music is always diluted down to what he did in Melvins. He at least SEEMS comfortable with that but i do wonder. He must think to himself "i've done so many OTHER things!!".

Been waiting a long time for someone to talk about Honky.
The band had been touring with Tool around that time he said, which I don't know much about either.
I would like to hear a couple 'tour stories' from that tour.
Glad Mark D. named some of the effects that were used on Honky, type of BOSS drum machine they used was something Trent Reznor was using...So I wonder if the Melvins were inspired by some of the Gear NIN was using...When did the Melvins tour with NIN?
As well as naming some other influences, and the band they played with in Germany, what's the name of their band 'Schweizer'? I've seen a Kozik looking poster for those gigs that has a flying rabbit on it, but never checked out that band.
I would like to have heard his DAT recordings/Demos from some of these sessions.
Deutrom's done his own remix of the NIN album 'Ghosts I-IV'.

I saw one of their tours together in August'98. Did a 7 hour drive to Nampa, Idaho (a little outside of Boise) at a big outdoor amphitheater. Melvins were awesome as usual. There was quite a long break between bands. I had some mushrooms with me and I put some on a hot dog that I got during the break, and they hit me about two songs into Tool's set. Buzz came out and played second guitar on Stinkfist. I had two of those old disposable cameras with me. Got a few decent shots of Melvins but one of the security guards up front took my other camera when I was getting pictures of Tool.
Quote from: GiveMe45 on April 04, 2026, 06:16:38 PMone of the security guards up front took my other camera when I was getting pictures of Tool.
What a Dickhead, wonder why they had a no photo policy at their shows? You bought the ticket.
It's not like you were gonna sell those photos for a lot of money to Rolling stone Magazine...
Times sure have changed.
Look at Concerts now, literally every single person holding up a phone taking crappy videos.
Last I saw Tool they were still kicking people out for filming/photos. It's a losing battle but they fight it nonetheless.
