QuotePrepare yourselves! The legendary King Buzzo of the Melvins, accompanied by Trevor Dunn of Mr. Bungle, are set to deliver unforgettable performances this August & September across the U.S. of A. And that's not all – the evening kicks off with an electrifying set from J.D. Pinkus.
An event like this doesn't happen often – it's a night not to be missed! Tickets on sale this Friday Jan 26th at 10am local time, get yours at https://www.ipecac.com/tours
Hell yeah! I missed the melvins/Boris when they swung through Mass, so this is like the best kind of consolation prize.
Nothing until August??? Surely they will announce some kind of tour or shows for Spring or early Summer. Trevor did say a month in Europe so i guess that would come prior to this, being that they don't tour in the colder months. Time to get that KingDunn album out now!
i'll hopefully be there in nashville unless the venue (exit/in) doesn't let me in for being <18
Where's the Buffalo remake date? I have my 2020 tik stub still. Per usual, all of central to western NY denied. One show in the state of NY, and it's in that dump of NYC/Brooklyn. Cleveland's the closest, but I can't be bothered with driving 6 hrs round trip.
You'd think with no Toronto show, Buffalo would again be a no-brainer. Must be with Pinkus on board, it's just easier not to deal with Canada and having the van searched/seized.
FUCK! No Toronto or Montreal Dates. :cobain:
And still no south american tour :(

HELL YEAH !!! :ohsnap:
This whole tour announcement puzzles me. It seems quite far off and with a new Melvins album known to be in the can it makes me wonder if that will come out next year now. Also what the status is of a KingDunn record. One would think something like that would be announced alongside the tour. Also what's Steven going to be doing in 2024? Is Redd Kross touring?
i think that could mean two things, Redd Kross touring and/or Dale still not ready to perform live

Exactly - this can allow Redd Kross to tour if Dale is ready to play live. It can also allow Buzz to finally do his tour with Trevor.
No way I'll ever go back to Detroit for a Show, that shit was like something out of Robocop, straight up, Detroit is fucked.
Clarence Boddicker getcha?
It's definitely dystopian alternate nightmare reality, no disrespect.
I'm sorry, but you can keep it on that side of the river please.
I would be safer in most third world countries, Detroit unto itself is it's own problem.

Louisville is definitely doable, actually be a nice change of pace from going to other cities to see them.
On the flip side, could do Nashville too. Be a good excuse to hit up Grimey's and Vinyl Tap as well.

OMG buncha pussies out there in the world. come on! gain some grit! its real world, man.
I mean... admittedly El Club (where you were) is probably the in worst example of Detroit area there is. it's neighborhoods, corner bars and convenience stores. but it's mostly all ethnic families (mexican town) that live in those houses. I feel like a rap is being put on here that suffers from major reputation precedal.
This Buzz/Dunn show is at the shelter. that's the basement of St. Andrew's Hall. it's right downtown. safe as your happly little canadian towns. but with personality. the venue is legendary both upstairs and down.
now I think it's absolutely crucial that you come. you need your motown opinion adjusted.
besides.. I'd be thrilled to hang with you again. think about it.

In the promotion for the tour, i read somewhere that it is Buzz on acoustic and Trevor on his standup bass. So i imagine that will be all. A pretty stripped back show and similar to the KingDunn material. It would be cool if they added some electronic elements like with Gift Of Sacrifice though.
In this Mr. Bungle interview Trevor Dunn mentions a bit about his tour with Buzz later this year:
QuoteComparing the 5 dates of this Australian tour to the 45 US shows Dunn will be playing on an upcoming acoustic tour with Melvins frontman Buzz Osborne to support their 2020 collaboration 'Gift Of Sacrifice', Trevor describes the latter as "gruelling".
"We're gonna be in a van, there's only gonna be three people; it's gonna be me and Buzz, and we're gonna have one crew guy with us. I'm psyching myself for it already, 'cause it's gonna be long and hard, and I'm playing upright bass, which is physically much more challenging for me.
"Mr. Bungle is kind of at this level now where we're staying in nice hotels and we've got a five-person crew. It's cush as it's ever been for us, which is great."

unlikely with the new management, but keep your eyes peeled for any free shows at grimey's earlier in the day.
I'll bet a month's salary it's the same recording. The question is really whether Haze actually knows Riberworm did that limited CD run, or if Buzz told him too little, or intentionally mislead Haze, or if even Buzz forgot. And how does Trevor feel about it?

I always thought they would do that. Or put out a record which featured the songs from both those EP's with a few more tracks to round it out. Yet so far that really doesn't seem to be the plan. Buzz is just going to reissue his solo records as a double album and use that to promote the Buzz & Trevor tour and that's it. Oddly enough.

After the art edition, the Riverworm CDr, and the cheapy CDs you go and put it up on streaming, too? Two months later is fine.

With this tour to finally promote Gift of Sacrifice now under way I thought I would give the album another listen as at the time I didn't like it compared to Buzzo's first album. It was definitely better than I remembered I must say a couple of very good songs but a few dirge-like songs. It might have been better suited as an EP or perhaps waiting until he had more material.
Still these two solo albums show a lot of potential for what Buzz could come up with next but might be a while again with Melvins kicking back into gear in 2025. I would probably rather hear another solo album from him at this point.
guy in the fb group said the Eat The Spray tour edition doesn't come on board till the Minneapolis show, btw. he was at the Pappy & Harriet's show.

I went to his Monday night at Lodge Room. Amazing show. I don't think I've seen Buzz that engaged in the music in a long while.
The room seemed about 70% full. Pinkus was dope. Funny stage banter. Looper pedal seemed to give him this whooshing rumble in some songs that sort of acted like bass and percussion.
Merch was cool. Picked up a Sidewalk Begging flexi which came with two really nice King Dunn stickers, one of them a metallic textured one.
The setlist was great. Everything came togetyer nicely between Trevor's improv moments and the tightly composed stuff.
I think the intro to "Suicide in Progress" was extended. Not sure. It was just totally acrobatic watching him do that.
People cheered the loudest after "Revolve", "Sidewalk Begging", "Laid Back Walking", and "Science in Modern America". At least that's how I remember it.
They were selling grab bags for maybe $50 that contained a letterpress CD and stickers and art I think. I didn't get one. I opted for a Walsby one-of-a-kind from the Walsby crate.
people in the fb groop complaining about loud irrelevant talkers at the shows. this will not be tolerated. i will put both fingers in your eyes like Moe Howard. :disagree:

Flexi was $25 standalone. I think there was a bundle with the 2LP Mackie edition (?) that might have been $70?
Sorry, I know you guys have asked for pictures of the merch booth before. Something about that just makes me uncomfortable. I meant to, truly, but once the edible kicked in I got paranoid.

Ah, yeah. The orange bag with the dinosaur is the lucky draw letterpress grab bag.
$25 is not so expensive compared to a lot of stuff lately... if anyone is going to the tour, please let me know, thanks!

watched some videos from this tour, great set.Dunn is perfect, love his backing vocals too . i noticed Buzz changed a bit his singing style lately,is it just me? I mean compared to his first acoustic tour , i noticed he missed a bit of his voice
The price of the flexi on Discogs is fucking insane...

so I just found out we're getting mr. phylzz or whatever the hell it is in detroit.
great. :?
personally I'd have been cool with pinkus - buzzo/dunn and GTFO considering it's a tuesday night.
Offfv, so much Detroit trash talk! El Club does not represent the D. Right, glen?
Did anyone catch a spread of the merch table? I've been meaning to make a discogs so I can better track my mackio letterpress collection. It's growing like a strong healthy big boy.
I know it's only fan uploads, but one thing i have noticed from the videos i have seen of this tour is that i can barely hear Trevor for a vast portion of the show! They just seem like Buzz solo gigs with the occasional stand-up bass interludes! I'm sure live it's more balanced but in the videos i hardly hear the Dunn!
I read Ian's post too fast and thought he was trying to tell us that Trevor has an Only Fans
You all saw that photo of him riding the Sinclair dinosaur, right? Haha!

Same around here :D
By the way, I thought most people around here liked Mr. Phylzzz, I think they're great.
Show was an absolute blast! I don't want to spoil the set list, even though I know it's been shared.
Merch table had a few t shirts. The classic Houdini two headed dog, minus the PU$$Y on the back. That's just for the OGs. Letterpresses: variants of 26 songs, bootlicker, kingdunn, and COD.
I walked away with the Mackie limited screen of Tarantula Heart, flexi, and fun pack! (b not included)
The fun pack included a bunch of stickers, picks, tarantula cd, random holograms and other stuff mackie printed on her letterpress + special surprise letter press CD - printed with silver ink. Bride was inside with what I think was a variant of what was in the ipecac cd packaging. It's always a wild card to go with that stuff. Not nearly as cool as the mystery Pinkus box with the Melvins trading cards from a few years back. But it's ok!
:)
I also got that sweet fantômas pack. Because I have no self control. Self Titled, Suspended Animation, and Directors Cut.
Oh. And an iron on patch from Pinkus as a small support. It looks like the NASCAR logo but with his name. I made a butt drugs joke and he told me to only put a 1/3 of the patch on my tongue if I didn't want to trip too hard. I jokingly took the dare, and now I'm all jittery.
He opened with a banjo and I told him he should start throwing in some Kermit the Frog covers.
If you made it this far into my ecstatic ramblings, Buzz did say to expect dueling drums in the near future !!!!!!

Well... at least Glen is giving a chance to the rest of the folks who can't go to the tour, and that is great.
Indeed, a very kind gesture. Grabbing extras can be a pain in the butt so it's nice to have a solid pal looking out when times get tough.

It's a bit weird because Trevor's bass could be heard well with Melvins Lite and that was with an added drummer and Buzz on electric. So you would expect that even more when it's just in competition with Buzzo's acoustic.
At the King Dunn show I attended you could hear and feel Trevor's every note.

I understand the Detroit gig has been postponed and will now take place in a hut in Machu Picchu in three years; anyone unable to attend will be given a partial refund - all refund requests must be made in writing IN ARAMAIC and in person at the venue's admin office at the Copper Harbour lighthouse, Copper Harbour, MI. All persons requesting refunds must arrive by boat. Further details to follow in two years or so. Please note this is in keeping with Detroit's traditional gig postponement criteria, as Glen will happily testify to.

More Glens=more flexis! 👍
so a couple more thoughts..
first: Ian needs to go to a concert. I'm sorry but that's just how it is. that upright bass we were trashing on?? yeah I was wrong about that. that shook me. I have a new level of respect for T. Dunn. the bassline on Boris was just out and out NASTY. that was probably my favorite Boris ever.
second: there were about maybe 50 people in the place. so when Buzz and Dunn started in on Hung Bunny you could feel the room one-ness. we all kind of looked at each other like "oh fuck yeah". someone yelled out "LEGENDS!!" and that caused a roomwide stir. looking eye to eye with Buzz as he evil grins and stomps around the stage is special. so glad I went. and so sad when it was over at 10 FREAKING PM!
..and then I had to have flexi's surgically extracted from my body. the rest is a long story.

saw the last show of the tour last night. Pinkus kicked major ass and had the crowd roaring with laughter. Trey Spruance was there.
Buzz was talkative. he said it was the first time he had spoken all tour. i've seen the Melvins at that bar, previously the Mason Jar in 96, 99 and 2019. he usually has something to say when they play there.
hell yeah VF, man what a tour, just excellent
Not sure if I mentioned this already, but while digitizing some records I put on my "Sidewalk Begging" flexi. Flexis have notoriously bad sound - better than lathe cuts but worse then a lot of wacky splatters and other record novelties. Sometimes they don't lay flat and they basically play warped. Sometimes you need to tape them on to the platter or a base disc. Sometimes they're just noisy or irreparably wobbly or lack bass.
The "Sidewalk Begging" is easily the best sounding flexi I've ever played. It had to be forced a little bit to fit the spindle, but it gripped the spindle exactly as it should and lay nice and flat. The groove played perfectly and the mix and balance was awesome.
I can't necessarily say it sounded better than the video in high def, but I really enjoyed it.

Flexis wear out after about 40 or 50 plays generally.
I did not have high expectations beforehand but they absolutely killed it last night in a'dam. I have seen trevor dunn play before, but never before did I see him excel and shine as he did last night. I had mostly read about his bass chops, but last night I witnessed it first hand. in my opinion he made every song 10x more interesting. simply loved the ambiance of the songs. no chatter in between, eerie vibes, slow pace: dark and heavy as fuck. highlights were roman bird dog (especially the final bit, with trevor adding vocals), boris and revolve (again, sick bass line during the verse).

pretty cool, wasn't it? the Boris bass line was THEE SICKEST.

seeing King Dunn tonight
Obviously this thread has made it to 11 pages, but i was thinking today that it doesn't seem like this tour has generated much excitement or conversation here. In fact i often forget it is even still going on. Isn't tonight the last show of the tour.
saw them last week and it was great, not sure if i liked it more than the first time i saw Buzz on acoustic in 2014 but you can tell that Trevor added a lot with his upright bass playing. Personal highlights were Boris and that new song where Trevor does vocals. Buzz didn't talk too much during the whole set but was in a good mood. Bought the flexi 7" with the Dicks cover, a couple of shirts were available too . Only complaint is i wish they played more songs from Gift of Sacrifice
Yeah, the London Halloween show was amazing. I liked it a little more than solo Buzz, and agree would have liked to hear more from Gift Of Sacrifice, but it was excellent. Didn't sem likeit was anywhere near full, which is a shame. Last night of the tour so next to nothing on the merch table, but still more than we've seen in the UK in recent years! Great King Dunn shirt, but only available in L or XL...bought a Large and maybe i'll grow into it. Redd Kross next week so at least i'll have seen melvins...just not all at the same time...

No, mine played really well actually.
I may have masking taped the thing to an old LP. That sometimes helps with flexis. It also matters your stylus setup. I forget which way it needs to be.
