I was looking to see if Steven had broke the record for longest serving bassist when i noticed on the bands wiki that for both Coady and Jared it says 2006-2015. I've seen that before and always dispute it a little. I'm sure both did play the occasional show with them until 2015 hence why it's listed, but it was probably only a select few. Maybe only a couple. It's not like they were active with the band that whole time. Things get fuzzy when you look back but as i see it the BB era was a distinct 2006-2012 and that's that. Although i know Coady played with them a few times in the Pinkus era. I don't think i've ever seen footage of Jared with Melvins AFTER 2012. It just bugs me that the BB era wasn't so clear and final like other eras in the bands history.
2006-2012 Jared
2012-2013 Trevor
2013-2016 Pinkus (sometimes Trevor)
2016-Present Steven (sometimes with Pinkus)
When was Basses Loaded?

2016. The song with Jared and Coady on (Choco Plumbing) was, from what i understand, something they had recorded at least a bit earlier than that though. Maybe even from the Everybody Loves Sausages sessions.
Hope those guys are good. I felt a really meaningful connection to the work they did as Melvins.
I remember when I first heard Big Melvins I wasn't sold on it at all and thought it was too gimmicky. But over time it really grew on me and IMO Bulls & Bees was the highlight of that era. That EP promised so much, it's so unlike any other Melvins release with it's dark, haunting and gothic vibe, I like to imagine it was recorded in a haunted house or something.
To me Buzz & Dale are a bit too wrapped up in Steven and that's probably how it's going to stay until the end. People become more risk averse as they get older and I think they both enjoy his professionalism and his company too much to change bassists again. No surprise the recent albums aside from PAT are all a bit similar.

It does seem that way. I've actually come to warm to Steven a bit the last few years. I'd still prefer someone not as goofy and prone to pop sensibilities (Kevin is always my favourite) but he's a good solid bass player and seems to fit perfectly into their way of life and world view. I guess i've made peace with the fact that he will probably be the 4 string dude until the end of the band. Whenever that is.
kill me but i guess Steven showed a lot more personality as bass player than Jared during his Melvins career.
the albums with BB(ASA and NWB pretty much) were a lot better than the ones with Steven though but this is another story and imo has more to do with Buzz songwriting than band lineup
Jared was an amazing "instrument" for Buzz to write with. Both his voice and his thick distorted bass.
But I also think the dual drummers had a lot to do with the goldenness of that era, and having Coady around for the next recordproject may open up some cool doors again.
Steven really is a professional musician and I appreciate his style and contributions, even if it wouldn't be my first choice for a Melvins match-up. I think he's also gotten better over the years at understanding Buzz's songs enough to put his stamp on it in the right places.
That said, there are a few tracks on A Walk where he was already just annihilating in a delicious way, so once again I contradict myself a bit.
Here's the thing, at this point Buzz is not going to bring in another bass player that can't write their own music / contribute songs.
If like Buzz, you had been writing music for 50 years, your tank is probably on empty too.
Jared writes awesome music, has the fuzz pedal and likes haaaard rock. Steven can write a hook, that's for damn sure.
Both dudes have kept Melvins going strong for the last 20 years. What other bass player would even be available to contribute in such a way?
(A)SA was an unexpected shot in the arm for (the) Melvins, but I don't pine for those days. I'm always excited about whatever they come out with next.

I like this attitude.
One thing I might experiment with, if I could wish it, is maybe a different producer, regarding recordings. Even bringing back GGGarth might be nice.
Steven, I don't know if you are reading this, but fuck these guys, you are awesome.

didn't know you were a fan
Melvins is a three-piece, the collaboration with Big Business was a thing I hoped would pass soon when it went on and it did. Jareds vocals did not fit after my opinion.

BACKED.
In one interview, Steve did mention that he tries to stay away from "certain" message boards.

Couldn't imagine why that would be.
He stays away from certain message board(s)... plural? Yes, because there are soooo many message boards debating Steven McDonald in the Melvins lol.
There are probably like 12 people in the world that give a fuck about it and they're all on THIS message board. Amiright??

Hey bud! I have themelvins.net in my RSS reader and this time I happened to see a new post and happened to click on it.
Always warms my heart to see this place is still going strong. Got any suggestions for good general threads to hang out on?

...still going strong.
well... :? :?
let's leave it at "still exists".
my only advice is to avoid the ecumenical discussion at all costs.
PS: glad to see you're still out there kicking.
(this guy is OG, FYI. he goes back farther than me)
