Thunderball
WTF WOW awesome!!!! Is this definitely a new album or something else??? I did think since the tour with Coady is in April they might announce a new release this month!!! A James Bond concept album????
Where did you find this picture? I can't find any information about it. I wonder if they will officially announce it tomorrow.

Nice graphic design work!!
Wonder when this was recorded and which line up features, considering Dale was unable to play for a long time
Maybe i am reading too much into the cover image and title, but could this be a heavy sounding album!?!?!! [-o<
UGH! Pottyspy =;

The character on the front has a distinctly Buzzo-esque haircut too!
Also Note the signature JUDY flaming antlers!!!!!!! : D

They start a California tour in March.
Quote from: Bigval on February 02, 2025, 06:22:34 PMThey start a California tour in March.
I'd say that's one of those mini tours that they do every now and then - just a few dates. Technically a tour but looking at the year, the BIG, main tour starts in April. It would make sense to have a new record around that. Although Melvins don't always follow that pattern.

No doubt Coady will be drumming with them though.
Interested to learn why they chose 'Thunderball' for the title

Straight away i thought about the 60's James Bond movie with Sean Connery but googling it i see the word originally came from what US soldiers called a mushroom cloud from a nuclear blast. An explosive, powerful type of storm.

yeah, no, I know, I knew that...Just strange they'd title it something that will confuse a lot of people searching for James bond music online now.
newsflash: they use alot of old 60's and 70's television and film references in their titles.
didn't you ever wonder what a "Brain Center at Whipples" was? look it up.
I do not think this is a reference to that James Bond film, per se. but I do think it lends itself to the 60's and 70's. I am not hopeful that it's going to be an exceptionally heavy album.
Credit: I'm the guy that said "Dies Iraea" is a play on diarrhea. you all said "no way did they tweak that name as an ode to bowel evacuation." as it turns out I had a half a clue. I've been a MELVINS fan for 35 years. I don't know them. but I know them.
Some conspiracy theories:
Thunderball, the movie, had originally the song title 'Mr kiss kiss bang bang'. The melvins played the song 'bang bang' in 1985. A 40 year span!
Quote from: glen on February 03, 2025, 02:31:34 PMdidn't you ever wonder what a "Brain Center at Whipples" was?
Yes glen, I know.
The fool, the Meddling idiot, is another reference from TV series.
Pretty sure 'black stooges' was from a Mad TV skit
...pretty sure you won't be able to find that skit...I can assure you, it would be considered offensive humour nowadays, and even then.
Pink bat also comes to mind.
Same with a lot of other references.
So ok, again, wondering what the title 'Thunderball' might be in reference to in this particular case.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a reference to anything. Might just be a title Buzz likes. He said he's a list maker when it comes to song titles so it might just have been plucked from that. Or an in-joke like Hold It In was.
I'm sure in about 50 interviews he will be asked about the James Bond film now though!

Nothing announced on Thunderball yet! I've been thinking more and you guys remember Buzz said two of the Napalm Death guys were aching to do some recording with them and they were going to do some together. Since both bands are touring together this year could they be on this record???

I'm surprised this hasn't been officially announced yet. I was pretty sure that it would only be a matter of days after we saw this reveal. I guess Spotify and other online sites receive album details and artwork etc a lot earlier in the process than i expected.
looks like Haze announced a new Melvins album with Napalm Death

Savage Imperial Death March! Previously just a co-headlining tour a few years back of Melvins/Napalm Death. Well they've gone and done it now with a collaborative LP of new material just in time for the spring tour together!!
Shown here is the online edition. There's an orange tour edition as well. Cheapy CD's are in the works. Shoxop Sunday, 1200 central
The title put me in a World War 1 frame of mind. The last gasp for more than a few empires and monarchies, and for anyone familiar, a fucking horror-show of humanity crushing, meat grinding tactics overseen by utterly uncaring upper class elites refusing to change disastrous and arcane warfare methods despite the millions slaughtered to no ends. At least the whole world learned from the hideous mistake and it would never be repeated! 😝
I'm all for this but i do hate when they do these AmRep releases. Going by the album title, you would think they'ed release it next month instead! I wonder if it's with ALL of Napalm Death?

It could be but i doubt it myself. I have a feeling that Thunderball is going to be pushed back quite a bit now. They wouldn't release both close together. Perhaps it will be Summer or early Autumn. I mean, Haze has only just shown his Thunderball artwork on his page so it seems it's not going to be too soon. We'll just have to sit tight and wait. It's going to be funny when they finally excitedly announce it and we all collectively go "oh that".

Just before they were set to record last year, Buzz said the Napalm guys were chomping at the bit to record some weird stuff so expect it to fall somewhere on that side of things. I'm not expecting anything too clearly like a typical Napalm Death song.
Also i wonder if Steven is on this! That's another thing about the AmRep releases i dislike - no credits!!! No idea who's on these or who did what. The lack of clarity about the Throbbing Gristle one still bugs me.

You guys are overthinking this Napalm record. It's no different from the Helms Alee EP or the Flipper record. I doubt there's more than six songs on it. Probably one or two from each band's catalog. Haze just said it's an LP because that's the size of the thing. But I don't expect an "album".

I'm not even convinced that Dale was even on the record. From what i understand they had a few sessions. A couple of photos were released from the first session and there was only Buzz, Toshi and Void Manes there. Although common sense suggests Dale was probably involved somewhere or other on it.

I got one triple set. I'm REALLY excited to hear this one, as I've been also a ND fan ever since 1988.
I must have hit the Add to Cart button twice because I ended up with two of them. Good coincidence because I needed a belated birthday gift for a friend who is going through some lame life stuff, and he texted me that even though he had it in his cart, it was sold out when he got to PayPal

I don't know, that album is really strange. It's heavy, barbed, straight to the point and yet you can just hear Buzzo's typical guitar lines in among it. It's not really super aggressive or anything. It's still very Melvins style guitar just presented in among very different bass, drums and vocal attack! But it works SO well.

Mark it down in the book of Melvins.
