Slightly uncharacteristic of Buzz he has mentioned a few bits in recent interviews about his plans for the next album. He said he's written some and will finish up the writing between the tours and will record sometime around November this year with Coady involved once again. I found it interesting that he also revealed that the band have been rehearsing some of the material out on the road. That seems like an unusual thing for Melvins. I don't recall them ever doing that in recent years at all. In fact Buzz and Dale always talk up how they like to record a new album when the songs aren't quite fully locked down. To get in the studio with them when they are fresh. So with that in mind it seems strange that they would be rehearsing bits already a good 6 months before they intend to record anything. It makes me wonder if Buzz has some new unorthodox recording plans again this time around.
Perhaps. It also strikes me that r cording with all the members is way harder now since they all have to travel to L.A. So they can't take those loose chances the same way they did in the 2010s. Also I think Coady and Dale want to actually do the arrangement of their parts this time. I really hope this taps the dual drummer itch from the original BB run.

Buzz said recently that he feels they have only just scratched the surface with what they could do with the double drums. So it seems whatever they do put out will lean heavily into that again. Which i sincere hope is the case. It's funny how much (A)SA featured that but afterwards, Nude and Bride didn't really show that off so much. Probably the same can be said of Tarantula Heart too. It rarely sounded like two drummers.
Bride had a lot of good dual drummer stuff on it. "Water Glass", "Evil New War God" has a whole drum solo battle in it, I think either "Inhumanity" or "Electric Flower" had some pyrotechnics, too.

Evil New War God is the only one that stands out to me as distinctly making use of the two different drummers. There probably are plenty of other bits across Bride and Nude, but i never recall them like many of the moments on (A)SA do.

I think Melvins tried to do a free jazz odessey thing on Basses Loaded. Planet Destructo... it kinda sounded like that Spinal Tap clip when they played at the fairgrounds. It was, um, not great

I liked it! But i see what you mean. Apparently according to the band, that was something they originally wrote and played a bit at soundchecks back in the mid-90's! They just never knew what to do with it.
It's the Barbaaraal or Subraum track, no? Then they recorded it with Dunn. And after the short pre-written part there's another four minutes of Dunn improvising. I love Trevor; he's one of the few jazz "noodlers" I can tolerate and he also does so much imaginative writing. "Planet Destructo" wasn't a standout track, but it certainly isn't a failure for me.

So based on Buzzo's comments it seems whatever this new album will be, it will once again be in the 34-40 minute range. I wonder if we can expect another 5 track record too?? A 5 song Melvins album is starting to become the norm!
