Review of Houdini from doom-metal.com-
The cover of 'Houdini' shows a couple of kids playing with a two-headed dog. The booklet is one of the weirdest I have ever seen, and it looks as if it has been made by a nine-year old. The music itself is also strange, to say the least. What you'll find on this album is a mixture of rock, grunge and a couple of slow, doomy songs.
The Melvins are well known for their friendship with Kurt Cobain, who has financially helped and co-produced this album. Obviously, his influence was big, because 'Houdini' reminds a lot of Nirvana. But let's not beat around the bush - to be quite frank, this CD has failed to impress me. The only interesting bits are the sludgy parts, which are few and only far between. It seems the purpose of this record is to annoy rather than to offer some serious music. And if that was what the Melvins really intended to do, I can safely say that they have succeeded.
Anyway, while I try to find more doomy Melvins CD's, I'll keep away from 'Houdini'. I suggest you do the same.

The Melvins intended for HOUDINI to annoy a music critic? HAAAAAAAAAAAAhahahahaha! Yeah, that must mean "Help" is the Beatles' most experimental record too.
