Title: Mark D
Post by: musefreek on January 18, 2005, 08:58:02 AM
Mark D is my favourite Melvins bassist and I think that he brought a very distinct feel to their music (the Atlantic era is my favourite in the Melvins' history). He also helped shaped their sound during this period I say.

I mean HELLO!!! Just listen to his work on Honky alone!

I also think he is the best bassist they ever had.

Ladies and gentleman, I give you MARK DEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!:

and a Stoner Witch era Buzzo rocking out

he might hate Mark D now but he LOVED his bass (and what a beauty it is!) as evident in this picture

Is that a Fender or a Tokai that Marcus is spanking in them thar piccies? And yeah, while I suffer from Preston love when the evil slowed down side of me surfaces, I do think Mark rode along on some of the Melvins absolute best work. Stoner Witch, is IMO the classic Melvins record with only Bullhead and Houdini badgering for it's greatness...could be because Stoner was the first one to click with me but, m'eh...

Hey Musefreek, you ever hear his solo record? Great album. Kinda feels like Stag II or something. There's a track on Stonerrock.com off it to DL. Give it a listen...

Sheesh. I also checked stonerrock.com to see what melvins they offer. they have melvins/lustmord.  melvins/jello.  and under plain old melvins category the only song they offer is Shit Storm.  I don't exactly think SS is a good track to get people interested in this band.

I mentioned that to Green Honey years ago, he just said "Yeah I reckon thats why they (The Melvins) did it"

LOL...funny thing is that SS is simply the song Revolve in reverse with a few extra noise effects thrown in.... i agree... SS is NOT the track to hook someone on the Melvins (Though oddly enough...Revolve might be....)

when buzzo had the bass, Mark d would tear into a great lead on a fender guitar. he's was my favorite bassist too. Im a big cows fan and am happy with kevin especially track 4 off HAT.

Mark D's cd is fucking sweet, maybe 2 songs that i would have left off, but there are some cool songs on there.

who is his band on it? like anyone we'd know of? drummer wise?

I have won The Silent Treatment on ebay and just finished listening to it.

It does defo sound like Stag II. It is a great record (and that on the first listen!) and I recommend that you lot check it out.

Chihuahua is an amazing track.

Anyone knows what became of Mark anyway??....

Anyone know when Mackie and Buzz got together? Because I have a feeling those clothes that Buzz is wearing are pre-Mackie. I've seen that clown outfit before, and I'm glad its gone. Mumus are much better.

[Last night in my dream I met Buzz and I was talking to him about some random stuff and then I tentatively brought up Kevin, because I really wanted to know what the hell was going on, and then he (Buzz) dissapeared and I woke up. Guess I asked the wrong question.]

its not that great. (clown alley)
its okay, but not great.

i think the melvins influenced him, and not the other way round.

im shure he did a lot in the melvins, but...

silent treatment has lots of great songs, but...

yeah, i like the mark d album alot, but it feels sort of disjointed. i don't go back to it very often.

i found that clown alley album on vinyl for $5 or something at a local store a few weeks ago, but i can't actually remember what it sounds like now...

alnis i think mackie did the stoner witch artwork, so maybe she did let buzz out of the house with the clown pants on.
i agree with you cuz i like the doom dress look. it makes buzz look a lot more serious like he's a pagan prophet stuck on stage to bring you sounds of DOOM.
