Title: i bought a dod buzz box
Post by: zium on October 16, 2003, 04:13:30 AM
you know, the king buzzo signature pedal. I read that it was the most horrific pedal ever made and that it's great for noise. when you crank up the heavy knob, then the octaver blends in and it starts making this god awful uncontrollable noise

this is what it sounds like without the octaver (very filthy distortion with very little tone)
http://www.addiction.nl/muiz/zooi/buzzbox_distortion.mp3

and this is what is sounds like with the heavy knop cranked up (sick :D)

awesome :)

haha cool! i love my buzz box - it was expensive but it was worth the
price. nice samples by the way. how much did it cost? do you own many
effects?

no, i own a boss ds1, the buzz box and a chorus pedal
i barely use the chorus pedal though, i should sell it

anyway my buzz box wasn't very expensive, i bought a second hand for 50 euros (about 55 dollars?) and that's less than what you pay for the average pedal. maybe they'le become expensive collectors items some day :)

assure you that because i searched like three months to finally get one.  :)

I have a Single rectifier Mesa Boogie amp, and the distortion on that sounds as nasty as that, but it actully has tone unlike what the buzzbox will give you. Cool pedal tho, it would be a downgrade for me tho.

My band used one and it was horrible! The Buzz Box sucked, you couldn't do anything with it. Buzz himself said it was dogshit and only used it a few times for laughs. The instruction manual was hilarious though. I remember them talking about the setting Buzz used on the Melvins' classic EP Prick or some shit like that.

Oh wait, I do remember what we did that made it usable. We ran it from a cheap ass late 80's Yamaha drum pad with pre-programmed beats, into the amp. With all the knobs on it turned up we really dropped the bomb...yo. It sounds bad ass.

yeah there's also something in the manual about "buzz his settings". so i tried it out and it sounds like satan is throwing my house upside down, not like buzzo's guitar :)

btw i think the last 30 seconds of stoner witch are done with the buzz box. They used the buzz box on prick on a little bit on stoner witch as far as ai know. too bad i don't have prick, i want to hear what they do with it

YOU MOTHER FUCKER!  I've been looking for one of those fucking things or over a year now... :x

I almost got one off Ebay for $38 about 6 months back, but alas, I got outbid in the last 4 seconds of the damn auction.  The final price was $39.  Dammit.

Hulk smash!

DOD pedals are kinda cheaply made. My bro had one of those grunge fx-69 pedals and the wire came apart. P.O.S.

 HI   do u guys have humbuckers on your guitars, and playing from the bridge helps it out some, but i think the boss ds2 gets u closer to  buzz's guitar on hoidini.i also play it on a fender mustang(kurts cobains guitar)instead of the gibson

So, uh, a little bit back on topic here, would any of you happen to know an online store or something that has one?  After hearing that uncontrolled fuzz sound file for the 100th time, I jizzed all over my greasy, naked, suffocating body and came to the conclusion that I MUST get a hold of one of those little bastards.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dude it sucks! I'm telling ya, get a distortion and an octavizer seperate. I'd sell you mine but it pissed out after a year. All it is is a DOD grunge pedal and a shitty sounding octo mixed together.. It IS NOT WORTH THE PRICE! But hey...to each his own.

ofcourse the pedal sucks, thats the whole point

and mantis those mp3's were played thru my bridge humbucker. mustangs sound very twangy and thin because of the single coils. I guess it would help if you put seymour duncan hot rails (mini humbucker) in the bridge pos of your guitar to give it some more output, but still, a mustang will never sound as heavy as a les paul

yeah i bought it out of curiosity and i love to play with it and make weird
noises when i'm bored but i don't use it in my pedal-board. my distortion
chain is proco rat dominated - boosted with a tube screamer. i also use a
boss fz-3 fuzz which is WAY better than most people think. however, i tried
out the blue box (plus dist), and yes you can get close but it's not the
same, the buzz box is capable of way more havoc it's also more fun to
play because the b-box is EVERYTHING else but quiet (unlike the blue
box), you can blow speakers with it.

nice rig :) what kind of guitar do you have?
i've got a shitty ibanez grx 70 atm, if everything goes according to plan it will be replaced tomorrow by an epiphone les paul custom, yes epiphone, not gibson, i can't afford a real gibson (about 2500 euros?)

i have a tokai lp replica... tokai is the closest you can get, in other words
tokai = gibson if not better (the japan series). epi's are okay so go for it.
but i would recommend to look up a few tokai related sites or just read
some reviews on harmony central - they're cheap and are build to the
exact specifications, you really can't see the difference (or hear). they
copied the whole gibson line, standards, studios, customs...

here's a pic from the tokai registry: http://www.tokairegistry.com/images/catalogs/tokai_85-86_electric_p7.jpg

and here's mine:http://www.no55-computer.de/killkill/p03_guitar.jpg

The BuzzBox was made to try and capture the sound of the MXR BlueBox, a random Distortion/Ocatve Divider that Buzz uses.  I'd like to get my hands on a BuzzBox to posssibly make white noise on guitar with it.

I saw a used one ONCE at a Long and McQuade In thornhill or someplace WAYYY out East of Toronto I never been to before or since, And I still Regret not picking it up. it was about 80 bucks, I just didnt see myself parting with that cash at the time, but now I realize I probly will never see one ever again. I was really in a shitty Financial spot.

If anyone ever wants to hook me up...I give ya a Fair PRice or Trade etc..Still want one just as a collector.

maybe you got an extra one you can spare. I duno, I just thought Id ask.  :(
