Primus is one of those bands that everyone seems to like during middle school.
They seriously suck though. I can't stand their music. Claypool is practically a hippie with all his jam band shit.
SLAP BASS SUCKS

I just don't like primus..... or slap bass. Primus is very samey in my mind too.
I don't care if you like them, and you should be the same with me.
I love Claypool and all his projects.
how often are two people on at the same time, weird
i created this thread... mainly for no reason, other than boredom. Claypool is the man though. I like them both.
yes claypool is like a hippie, but who cares.. i like their music, ill like all music... party on wayne
I like Primus as a whole, but alot of people just focus on Claypool. I think they make some interesting music, however they do not even compare with the Melvins. Every primus album follows the same quirky music formula on every album, so if you hear one you have pretty much heard them all.... but with the Melvins, its quite a different story! From 10 Songs to Hostile Ambient Takeover, they have given us so many styles, ideas and flavors with each album; making each one a diverse and enjoyable listening experience.........and they have better side bands as well.

whats it from?
Here's the deal. The guy who said that about the melvins and the people ripping on primus are both fucking mental defectives.
The comment that Primus sounds the same and uses some sort of same formula on each record is nothing more than the inane blatherings of someone totally ignorant of their music and probably couldn't name a song of theirs that wasn't a music video played during the early nineties on mtv. Compare fucking Frizzle Fry to Pork Soda to Punchbowl to Brown Album, you're a god damn moron if you think they all blend together.
Claypool is making fucking SHIT right now, I know. But old Primus is fucking genius and not just because of Claypool but also the only drummer i put above Dale Crover, Tim "Herb" Alexander and the totally unique stylings of Larry "Ler" LaLonde. Also, people who put them into some sort of "gimmick band" or "humor music" genre are god damn idiots. The same goes for Ween or Frank Zappa. Don't make me fuck your mom in the ass.
All and all, Melvins and Primus are two of my favorite bands and hearing people bitch about either one gives me the urge to lodge several pairs of sneakers into several anuses of several senior citizens just to relieve my anger.
FIN.

Stag has all the best elements of melvins in one 16 track 50 minute CD!
Primus is good, but the newer one they put out (Antipop) was shitty, and so was the side-project Oysterhead. How is that Frog Brigade band he's in?
As for the Melvins Stag CD, it's definately a classic. I didn't like it at first, especially songs like "Goggles" and "Lacrimosa", but after a few listens you start to dig it, and appreciate the diversity on the disc. Stag is similar to HAT in some ways, given the combination of relatively straight-up music and bizarre noise rock.
