Title: 11/05/2005 Capitol Theater Olympia, WA w/ Jello Biafra, Altamont
Post by: johnylasvegas on November 06, 2005, 11:26:45 AM
the show was amazing...started off with this old guy playing folk/blues...he was awesome...Akimboe was next and really got the crowd going with their hardcore punk rock thing ...the drummer is a baby crover...next up was altamont who totally rocked...if you have never seen them live...do it as soon as possible you will not be dissapointed...next up was Sir DSS with his noise set that was pissing some people off in the crowd, but hey it would be a melvins show if that wasn't the case....dale came out while DSS was being noisey and started pounding the shit out of his drums, then buzz came on and they went into POTRE...the set list from what i can remember was

POTRE
AMAZON
BLOATED POPE
LET IT ALL BE
HOOCH
NIGHT GOAT

I Might Have left one out or so...the melvins set was all too short...Then That Fuckin' Piece of Shit Jello Came Out ANd They Didi thier Thing ...It Was Good but Not Great...I would Love If Someone Just slit That Punk Icon's Throat...I Ended Up walking out about three quarters of the way through the Jellvins set...just couldn't take That piece of Shit Jello's Ranting And Raving Anymore....

WOW some harsh words for Jello. I was at the show too. I DO know what you mean about Jello, and I had some of the same feelings when I saw them last January. I wasn't too sure about Jello messing with MY Melvins, BUT.....damn I have to say that I like the Jellvins thing now, after the second album and giving it some time. I know his rants can get tiresome, but as someone else said, the Melvins become the best "anonymous" punk band of all time when they put on the ski masks. Buzzo has no problem stepping back and giving Jello the spotlight. The music itself kicks ass even if you don't like Jello's voice. The MELVINS are playing it for crap's sake. So.....no diss on you if you don't like him, I understand. I have adapted and dig it now. Besides, Buzz and Dale like this new direction for the time being, and I'll let them "do the driving". I've also met Jello on the recent tour, and he was a right friendly fellow. He also cares a lot for the fans, takes time to meet people and tries to have all ages shows as much as possible so people can come out and hear the music. I also agree with whomever said that he has lots of energy for "an old fat guy".

Soundboard recording already up here thanks to the legendary Mike Ziegler: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=67568

Melvins set only at this stage, but Jellvins may follow.

Doh! You beat me to it.  I'll try to get the Jellvins up soon.  I'm honestly not the biggest Jellvins fan, so it's not as high on my priority list.

Oh and just curious... did any of you see anyone else taping (audio or video)?  I usually see a handful of recorders at Melvins shows, but I didn't see any last night.  The reason I ask is because I usually bring a nice set of mics with me to record, but unfortunately one of the batteries in one of my mics was completely dead and they have to be ordered specially online, so I used my el'cheapo Core Sounds.  The tape sounds okay... but if someone had a nice rig with them, please let me know.  I'd like a copy so I could do a SBD/AUD mix.  The straight board came out pretty good, but I think the recording would benefit greatly if a nice aud source was mixed in.

Hello Mike,

I was there last night and pulled down some pretty good audio with my sony ecm-909>sony dcr-hc30 mini DV.

I'd be honored to help you out in any way possible. Email me and we'll get something figured out.

-----------

On the issue about Jello and the guy who wants to slit his throat........get a grip.

I just so happen to agree with most everything he has to say about the fucked up direction our country has gone in recent years and think that the music he's been doing with the Melvins rocks balls.

(no, it's not the "music to slaughter cattle to" Melvins that we have all loved over the years but it's still great for what it is ........ turbo political/high energy punk rock)

let me know what you want and i'll try to hook you up.  potre is about 20 minutes long, mind you.

Hey Vinny, is there anyway you could put this up on your melvins show site instead of as a torrent? If you got the space and bandwidth or whatever... I don't understand all this business with torrents anyway.

yea good idea, i'd do that.  i know torrents boggle many a mind, especially those of the less-technologically inclined, aside from them just being a pain.  right click/download.  that's the way to go.
so this is the thing: i don't REALLY want to download the torrent myself, as i find it pretty annoying as well.  if there is anyone who can get it to me in an easier manner, that would be awesome and i will credit you on the site accordingly.  if nobody comes forth with some easy way, i'll just download it myself, but groan all the while.
it's no big deal, actually.  i will try to get it on the site as soon as i can in either case.

i'll keep you posted

I have a friend who has downloaded the torrent and I may be able to post it in a downloadable form soon. Maybe even tonight. I'll keep my fingers crossed, it might happen.  [-o<

Guess Im late on this thread.  I filmed the show from the balcony.  Buddy of mine is transfering to mpg, Ill be transfering to dvd soon as I get it back.  I thought the Melvins set was way too short too, but I enjoyed the Jello.  You can never see the Melvins enough, but it was cool to see them going a different direction.
