The Melvins played this weekend. Two or three shows in MN.
Didn't anyone with writing skills attend this show?
Kurdt Lover has already posted the art work to the show's collector's single.
Please remember those that could not attend. Any review would be welcome.
Thank you very much.

I second that!

The asterisks were my personal favorite moments. It was about 50 minutes, drum intros of black stooges and teet were played, no songs off gpt, ozma, eggnog, bullhead, lysol, stag and hat were played, no cover songs. only thing that was said was thanks, goodnight by buzz or something to that effect. grumpy's is not the ideal place to see the melvins and I don't think they enjoy playing long sets due to that, there is like ten feet between the bar and the stage and people basically crowd around it and if you are more than four people back you basically can't see anything, and this led to the large amount of conversations going on during the set by attendees, like 2/3 of the audience was talking to their friends during the show. Basically they paid 10 bucks each for melvins to be a live jukebox for them for 45 minutes. I couldn't go to the show on friday night, but my understanding is that it was the same set both nights and I prefer not to see them two nights in a row when they play the same set, and I think buzz has mentioned in the past that they don't reccommend it either. Went to the toy signing which was scheduled from 2-5 at 4, they sold out of stuff right away though apparently and were gone when we got there. As I stated in another topic, I haven't listened to the 7" yet because my turntable is broke, gotta love arcane technology. I don't take pictures at shows, too many inbeciles crowding you to make it worth the effort in my estimation. I was lucky enough to be standing behind and slightly to the left of a dude with long blonde hair who allowed me to have his hair flung in my face as he headbanged reign in blood style. Let me know what else you want to know.
very cool. thanks brian.
hopefully someone has some pics.
I was at the SOOVAC show. It was cool. Seemed like a short set to me, but whatever. I dont remember them playing Joan of Arc at the Friday show? How could I have missed that... but its been known to happen.
Anyways. I didnt think the sound was all that great at the show because A) The venue is not really built for this kind of loud music. B) The amps, drums were not miced (didnt need to be it was loud as hell as it was) so the balance of instruments at times seemed... well unbalanced.
Still a good show nonetheless.
ok... so i went to these shows.
yeah, i can't remember the setlist AT ALL. i'm glad brian did. i'm just not too good at that kind of thing. remembering, that is. it was even the same both nights and i can't recall. i don't even know the song names very well. what a terrible fan-boy i make. i also had some beers. the U.S. is interesting to me. $1 beers at the SOOVAC show, and then i was paying $4.50 a bottle at grumpy's (imported mind you).
and it was apparantly buzz's birthday on march 25th? part way through the set, dale and DSS sang happy birthday to him before blasting into another tune.
they had two versions of the single for sale, 2 different artwork covers i mean, and a clear and black vinyl version of them. i bought each of them. listened to them last night but my pre-amp on my record player was messed up, so i couldn't hear the songs too well. they sounded pretty good. actual "rock" songs for sure though. i'll fix it up tonight hopefully and report back if someone else hasn't already.

Thanks for the pictures.
Isn't Big Business part of the Melvins now or have I missed something?
Won't be touring with them till later in the year, they've been writing songs together though.

self affirmation: "MELVINS WILL return to detroit. I WILL see MELVINS in the calander year 2006.
I'm good enough, I'm smart enough and, dog gone it, people like me."

That's my absolute favorite way to see MELVINS, in a tiny little bar. Even though the sound is raw, you're right on top of them and can check everything out. I like being so close you can hear Buzz's pick on the strings. That's some good shit, you guys are lucky as hell to have been there. Plus, you can BS with the guys a bit too, it's just more personal than seeing them in a larger venue. Was Moss there with them?

Hehe, I was wondering how that went before the picture was taken.
Guy: Nice to meet you Buzz! Can I get a picture?
Buzz & co: Sure!
Guy: Oh wow, wouldn't it bee cool if I could choke you for one picture, and you'd make a goofy face??
Buzz: Sure thing!
Guy: hehe

why do I feel like if this were me in this situation and I was about to get a pic with buzz and I reached out and put my hands around buzzs' neck, his response would be "don't ever fucking touch me."? (run-on sentence much?)
this dude must be one charming motherfucker.
Roger starts looking like Daniel Johnston, or maybe the other way around.

Wow, the similarity between the eyes and the eyebrows is amazing! Haha, and how about his mouth, when the fanboy grabs Buzz. THEY'RE THE SAME PERSON.
OK, I don't feel quite so bad for missing this. I was under the impression it was going to the Big Melvins Whatever Band thing, and hence a onceinalifetime deal. Though first missing out on tickets for both and then getting to Robot Love well after they sold out was a big let down...
WOW! Those B my pics!
I NEVER asked if I could choke Buzz... just did it & he played along. It might look as if I'm touching him, but we never touched.
I recorded an interview with the owner of
Ha, thanks for the info.
Jesus Christ. It's been too long, tour America goddamnit. I miss the feeling of walking into a club and seeing Dale's drum set up there just aching to be bashed.
