Krems is a small university town about an hour by train from Vienna, a weird place to go see the Bigband!! My ladylover is currently living in Berlin so we try and meet somewhere in Europe rather than me going there all the time, so Krems it was.
It was Mike Patton night and was presented as a menu
Amuse Bouche/Aperitif - Zu
Appetizer - Bohren & Der Club of Gore
Intermezzo - Taraf de Haidouks
Main Course - Fantomas Melvins Bigband
Le Dessert/Digestif - Autechre
The hall was probably about two thousand people and was setup really well with a large beer section at the back, as well as a large lounge area with astroturffed benches to lie down/chill out on next door. Checked out the T-shirts, there is a special Bigband Euro tour one but I didn't think it looked that great.
Anyway, the music-
Zu: sounded quite good but a case of would be far more enjoyable in a smaller venue with intimate sound where you can appreciate the subtleties of the playing, theough the playing was tight!! We went and chilled in the bar for a while
Bohren: SSSSSSSsllllloooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, playing with lamps and stuff as lighting, one guy looked to Rob Halford. Again, really interesting but is better enjoyed in a dark room through headphones, though we came back in at the end and slow danced to a song that sounded like it could've been from Twin Peaks
Taraf: Romanian Gypsy Music, fantastic. So much energy, and they all had amazing voices and looked like they were having a great time. We enjoyed them very much and I will be checking out some of their recorded material

It made me wish even more that they'd bring the bigband to Australia.
Thanks for the review, I was planning to write one my own, but it wouldn't add much to the other reviews. I was also impressed by Joan of Arc and POTRE, wasn't too happy with the whistling in Sacrifice.
