So I was listening to Collosus Of Destiny, and I realized that there are two tracks. The second track is 5 seconds long. Why is it there? To let their fans that hate the album rewind into eye flys without having to listen to all of COD.
Eh? Good theory? Looking to much into it?
As this 5 secounds include nothing but a single drumsound I agree with that theory. It seems they wanted their fans to have the rewind-possibility but they still wanted COD and EyeFlies to be one unseperated thing.
who would want to rewind just to listen to 5
seconds of eyeflys to begin with though?
my theory is that they stuck it on there as a joke
on top of a joke for all of us who tried skipping Track 1
because it sucked so bad to get to the real songs we
expected, only to hear 5 secs of eyeflys instead of
a bunch of real songs (similar to how i skip shitstorm when
listening to Electroretard so i can get to the real songs after it)
Is the glass half empty or half full?
I'm siding with Anaconda, when I first picked up COD it had been discribed to me a "noise", so I new full well what to expect.
Sure enough, the first time I listened to it I tried to skip ahead to see what I had just purchased. Song two is only 2 sec! Fuck! My c/d player displays the total time and right then I realized I would have to listen to the whole hour to see what was on the c/d, the way Buzz intended it.
We've talked about this on many other threads, but again, imagine the confusion of the crowd at that show!
COD is really bad.im think that Buzzo is crazy!!
only eyeflys i can hear, the first time, noise noise and noise, is really bad.
I like CoD, I dunno whats wrong with you guys...have you even seen them start a set? Thats basically 20 mins of what you call noise and then they get into it.
COD is quite different than that though,
on COD, Dale, Buzz and Kevin were
all running into a mixing board and synth
module being operated by Adam Jones.
He was literally manipulating and twisting
what they were playing and improvising live in
real time.
i heard its so you cant fast forward through the first track, but that doesnt really make any sense
The c/d player I have does not skip to song one if the last track is playing.
You can use the skip track feature to fast forward the last song.
With c/d players engineered this way, you could fast forward through a one track c/d. That is why the Melvins put a song two on COD.
I've never been able to figure out the reasoning behind the Bootlicker and the split tracks on each song. Any one figure out the logic behind this?
They Might Be Giants put out a c/d with a bunch of 5 second songs. They said right on the liner that they did this to fuck with c/d players featuring shuffle play.

I think you're reffering to
The maggot, but I might be wrong, since my copy of
The bootlicker is on cassette and I don't know about that...the songs on
The maggot are split
My guess is that its for the people who "share" songs on the net. I suppose they do it to piss them off and have to combine 2 tracks to make it whole. People are lazy, you know that.

I stand corrected. What is your opinion on the splitting of the tracks? Causes has an outstanding point that I never considered.
I thought it was a good idea to force people to listen to the album in its entirety, the shuffle option would ruin the experience.
When Kyuss divided Welcome to Sky Valley in three sections, I liked that, too, cause you're actually forced to sit and listen to the whole thing, which - I'll admit it - I do less than I should.
It's for MP3 rippers.
And my copy of that Kyuss album has individual tracks...

Yeah I'm thinking that too. It even seems to work, because I didn't find so many mp3s from "The Maggot". It's like CausesUnknown said, people are lazy and dont' want to put both tracks together.

So does mine. But I was always wondering why the song listing was diveded into three parts.

I think it was supposed to be three sections originally...at least, mine has only three sections plus a bonus track (that goofy song at the end).
I wouldn't say they (Kyuss) did that preventively, though, cause back when the album came out, there was hardly any mp3 activity around...but I liked the idea of having to actually sit and listen to the whole stuff.
My guess regarding Kyuss is that the label made the switch soon after releasing the record, fearing that an un-listener friendly three track affair would damage their reputation...

You talking to me?
no, whoever the anonymous "listener" is in your Kyuss theory.

Well, I didn't say that the actual Kyuss listener cared-hell, most of them wouldn't be able to see their stereo through the cloud of bongsmoke. All I mean is that from the label's perspective, it's too restrictive for people not to be able to skip ahead to their favourite track. Also for those of short attention spans methinks!
I personally think this was a good idea. I figured since some of the songs start out slow, and instead of skipping the track completely, you could skip to the middle, which is where things start to kick up.
