I want the Melvins to commemorate their trip to Australia with another live release, only longer than Alive at the Fucker Club.
The bloody dear on the cover has always raised a few questions..
Did the Melvins run into a dear while on tour in Australia? Or where they on highway 79 in West Virginia?
Are there wild deer all over the place in Australia?
Also, what is up with the naked woman with Tasmania covering her pelvic region? Is this an indigenous female?
Is there a venue called the Fucker?
The concert as recorded for Alive at the Fucker Club great, and the story Buzz tells of calling his mother is hilarious.
At any rate, this is my dream: a live release to document the 2003 Australia tour.
And one more thing, no Patton
they need a really good live album, maybe a compilation of live stuff from one tour
Thats a dead kangaroo on the cover,
and not surprisingly, there's thousands of
them in Australia. 8)
The story about calling his mom is funny...
I've always wondered though...
What does he say at the very end of that?... the crowd says it along with him, but I cant ever make out what they are saying...
Im assuming since the crowd says it along with him that this is something famous...so someone here must know...
It's annoyed me for a while.
On the back cover there's an angel. Does anyone have Alive at the Fucker Club besides Dave and the Reaper?
The angel is, what apears to me anyway, to be a four legged creature. I have alway perceived this to be the spiritual representation of the dead animal photographed on the cover. Lazer, all I can identify is Seattle road kill. That is mostly opossum and domestic animals. Fuck, it looked like beagle season on the roads last week in Seattle.
I cannot identify the car on the back either though.
When I started this tread I wanted to discuss this release. The Australian Melvins Brotherhood (AMB) must know the answers to some of our questions.
Hasen't anyone seen the large female on the inside of the c/d jacket? What about "Special thanks to the Cosmic Psychos and Craig from Swiveldisc". What is this all about?
Anyway Chalupa is absolutely right, we need a live release again to drink Pacifico beer to.
the only kangaroos i've seen are in a zoo or down the lens of a rifle. i've never seen one just wandering around the streets. even less chance of seeing a deer.
the map of tasmania is exactly that. it also happens to perfectly fit the pelvic region, so we should all move there.
cosmic psychos are a pretty good band, they invited the melvins out for that tour. i think melvins brought them to the U.S as well.
No there isn't wild deer everywhere and the venue is called The Corner Hotel.
Ned Kelly, the Ironclad Outlaw, the Aussie Jesse James, the man who is the inspiration for the doll on the inside cover of Alive at the Fucker Club, was featured on T.V. yesterday. Ned wore an Iron mask which is depicted on the dolls knit head.
There is shrine to Ned in Melbourne; his scull is missing. Also, Mick Jagger starred in a movie about Ned.
I had no fucken idea what the doll and Ned Kelly meant, I thought it was the guy who did the artwork for Amphetamine Reptile!

they should reissue the tora tora box set! :D thats funny stuff :)

"Let that Boy Boogie Woogie."
It's a riff on John Lee Hooker's "Boogie Chillun." Zeppelin did the same story on the Whole Lotta Love medley on The Song Remains the Same.
Quote from: klumpthey should reissue the tora tora box set! :D thats funny stuff :)
have you heard it? can you give some examples please?
My Favorite from Tora, Tora, Tora is when this kid named Floyd calls a radio station where the Melvins are doing a radio interview. Buzz asks if his Mom is home, she is not. Then he asks if his Mom's credit card is home.
This should be a new thread, any way..........
Have you ever noticed the tension on stage between Buzz and Mark D. on Tora, Tora, Tora?
The first track is them having a petty spat before the first song, Revolve. I will transcribe it and put it in the "World According to King Buzzo".
Let's clear up a few things here:
The whole speech ("Let that boy...") is, suprise!, completely stolen.
Just listen to old ZZ Top recordings (I think it is on Fandango) and you hear this stuff too!

John Lee Hooker, actually (see Dave's post above). It's more of a "musical reference" than a theft. It was adapted as made to fit the occassion. "I'm way down here in Melbourne, Australia..." ... "Where the hell is that?"
Quote from: spud boyUmm... just to be picky thats Chrysler Valiant.
Yeah, you're right. Cars were never my strong point. It's not even a right-hand drive so I have no idea why I thought it was Australian.
Is the Fucker Club cd worth tracking down and buying off ebay? I'm not sure if it's worth the $15+, which is probably how much i would have to pay for it.
It's kind of short, only 7 songs but it's still a good listen.
I enjoy it since it's a good document of the Melvins live.
They were really playing tight with Mark D on this tour
and it shows. Highlights are the Bloat, Lizzy, Mombius Hibachi
and a couple older ones like Boris and Antitoxidote.
They play Mombius so fast that it sounds like the Cd skips. (I hope my copy doesn't skip)
Nasty Dogs and Funky Kings is on the Fandango album. (ZZ Top)
Should I allow myself to get hard thinking about Alive at the Fucker Club, and go seek out a copy this instant? Or is just OK and not something I should be in a hurry to get?
good show,
contact Beto for trade.
not great.
the tracks are cut worse than The Maggot. so dont bother trying to skip to the next track.
i listenened to it maybe twice.
It sounds like shit but it's a good set. They play through a fair number of songs in record time, but I'd seek out Your Choice Live for a better live Melvins disc...

agreed!
agreed.
indeed
I saw the Melvins on that tour in '97, in Brisbane, Australia. They played a similar set if I remember, but bollocks if I pay money for that CD after hearing it a few times.
the recording of boris has some killer low end to it. the image of a whale having an orgasm pops into my head everytime i hear it, this is followed by a large smile.
I was there either that night or the night before (setlists were the same). The following night it was very different, though. Very experimental.
I made this today-

Let me know if there is any other info I should add.

Notice that if you skip to track 2 (It's Shoved) you have to rewind to hear the speech. Otherwise you'll jump right into the song itself...... and track 2 also has the first half of Bar-X. Lousy sequencing but great live album.

new review as of September 10th
Does anyone know who plays bass on this cd? There are no credits of any kind given. It was recorded in '97, and put out by Noise amphetamine, so it could very well be Kevin Rutmanis. Kevin did join the band sometime in '97, so this is the earliest recording we have with Kevin playing in the band.
Does anyone know what the last thing is that Buzz says before they go into It's Shoved?
you gotta be kidding? It's Mark D
Ok, I thought it was Mark, cause it did not sound like kevin to me. But kevin did join the band in '97 sometime.
kevin is gonna be in the bassist morgue sometime soon, ain't he?
oh that will be a sad day...i don't know if i can bear the sight.
Did you like this when you heard it for the first time vin?
i've only heard one song so far. someone(TGH) was nice enough to send it to me quite rapidly, though i am yet to listen all the way through. i will let you know, mr.snake.

it's a great CD, Vinny. You'll like it!

yea i know.....i've heard more live shows than i can count, probably with better sound quality than this. i don't really see the difference. if there was a song on it that i've never heard i would have pwned it years ago.
so i just picked this album up for $13 (including shipping). nobody bid on it on eBay, so i contacted the seller and he sold it cheaper than what it was listed for. can't wait to get it in the mail. i've heard mixed reviews about this album...mainly that the quality is bad. other than that though what should i expect? is this a noteworthy performance?
yeah it sounds like they recorded it outside the club in a windstorm. but the cd does say melvins on it and thats good enough for me! :D

haha, i like whoever is talking after they play boris (dale?)
"now early this mornin'
i called my mama
i said mama, it's your boy
i'm way down here in mel-bourne
australia..."
Buzz said in an interview that its IMPOSSIBLE to make the live experience on cd (I agree, there are some good live records but they are few) so its kind of weird that they have three.
but Im expecting a lot from the Houdini live, and from what I have heard I think it will be FANTASTIC!
But I just want to say to everyone that I hope all of you BUYS the records when they come out, even if you find it on the net first... after all they are COUNTING ON US.
It must be really scary for them to see stuff appearing for free , when they have worked really hard to make it.
sorry for the de-railing
A great concert.
It's a short set so you're not getting a lot of music, but what you do get captures the Mark D. era of the Melvins well.
When I listen to it I often wonder if the seeds of discontent with Mark D. were already sown during the Austrailian trip.
Being in an airplane that long with someone you can't stand would be tough.
i believe this release wasn't the whole set that was played that night.
correct me if i'm wrong anyone.

It was not the whole set. Unfortunately.
It always seemed weird to me that they didn't release the whole set, but i guess it maybe might of become two cd's then or something if they did. I don't know
Ned Kelly found!

It's definitely Mark, big cowboy hat and all. I was there.
I also heard that the songs on this album are not the only ones they played that night. The only live release with Bar-X The Rocking M on it(except maybe live recordings by fans)

You are correct. They played a full set.
I scored this for ten bucks in a local record store on an out-of-town trip in near-mint condition. How much does this typically go for on EBay and the like?

thanks for reminding me. I have been trying to remember all night who did that speech. I knew it was an old blues guy but couldn't remember who
Yep, was just listening to Fandango tonight and I can verify. Nasty Dogs and Funky Kings is on the same album. A curious choice for a Melvins cover (Singles 1-12) when you listen to the original. That whole section that the Melvins copped with the spoken word is pretty silly on the ZZ Top album. A lot of hillbilly, scat nonsense, but it's fun to listen to to. I prefer side 2.
Does anybody else think of the metal blade released live Slayer EP "Live Undead" when playing this Melvins live EP? Just that they have the same amount of songs on them and their running time is around the same?
haha! the ol ten year hiatus hath struck another thread! :buzz:  :microwave: [-X :bs:
