So tell me, who is afraid this two drummer thing is gonna suck horribly? I mean, anything off of Ozma would be great with two drummers, but sometimes I can't help thinking Dale alone would be just fine, I mean perfect. The stuff he does at At A Crawl can only be disturbed by an extra drummer.

On the other hand, I have probably more than 100% percent faith in these guys. But still..

Well, I think ALL Melvins songs are perfect with just Dale, seeing as he played on all of them alone. But I'm really excited to see this spectacle of Dale and Coady. Just the thunder alone will be worth the trip. But i'd really like to see a drum-off/drum battle of sorts. That would just annihilate.

Must? Quantity isn't always quality. I saw the Big band live in Brussels and I'm sure I would have enjoyed Dale's drumming much better without Lombardo, see what I mean?

But as I said, I trust these guys, and it will probably result in something mind blowing.

I hear you maarten.     I'd take dale crover alone on the kit ANYDAY.  sometimes the thought of  another drummer can be slightly frightening.   if it were anyone other than coady willis i'd be really scared.  coady has talent, no doubt, but their styles are just so different (see tale of the tape).
but I will put my faith in MELVINS.  23 years and no dissapointments yet.   besides the fact that I see this as a return to the GPT/Ozma days when the drums were more of a lead instrument then they are now-a-days.  it seems on albums like HAT for example dale sticks to more of a rythm role.
as opposed to Ozma when the drums were as important to the track as the vocals/guitars.

on the same note...  jared's bass sound is way different then mark D, kevin, joe, etc.  way more distortion.  not nearly as clear and sharp as traditional melvins bass. I wonder if he'll go with a cleaner sound for melvins set and stick with the fuzzier sound for the BB set.

Well, Kevin's bass sounded extremely dirty too live.

And as for the drums being an integral instrument on Melvins albums, I think Bullhead belongs to that list too.

EXACTLY what I said!

I was talking to Jared, right after Coady and his first trip to jam with Buzz & Dale, and I asked him if they would play "Yr Blessened" (my favorite Melvins song), and he said that was the first song he brought up when Buzz asked them what they would be interested in playing... finally I have an inside man...

a new live version of ur blessened would be really cool. I'm thinking a "2 drum solo" (not really a solo anymore, isn't it?) from man's distant relative to ur blessened, and then after ur blessened dale and coady could just tear their drum kits apart going mental until the end of the song...

That's just plain awesome. Definitely one of my favorite Melvins songs, 'cause I love the build up and how Buzz is going crazy at his guitar. I have this 89 bootleg from Beto, with Lorax on bass, where they play Yr Blessened, and it's one of the best things I've ever seen. Ever, of all things.

Though I am REALLY afraid I will be fucking stoked (and stoned for sure) when Illl listen to the album for the first time, and then never listen to it again .... like the last time with POTRE  :(

Weird, POTRE is one of the albums I like way better when I'm stoned. Ok, that goes for pretty much all Melvins albums actually, but still, the title track is such a weird trip.

realistically, if you need more than 2 drummers (to play on each song), you don't love your original drummer.
or your original drummer is going to think that, 2 drummers (fine)...more than that
a bit overdoing it.

Don't forget this will not be the first time melvins songs have been done with two drummers.  Melvins/Fantomas big band have played some melvins songs since that show in 2000 with Dale and Lombardo sharing the stage.  Theres a great dvd available of the more recent european tour (bologna).  Check it out if you have the time/bandwidth.

i don't think it is going to suck.  at the worst it is just going to be less-than-impressive as a duo, but i don't think it will detract from dale's solo performance you know?  i'm saying it can only be positive or neutral.
they'll probably just play a lot at the same time and battle here and there.

I actually hope they stray away form the staples (let it all be, night goat, revolve, POTRE, hooch) and do some more obscure songs.

OR

they could add another 45 minutes to the set and do those songs too.
