i heard.........
altamont and men of porn will be touring with melbigs...
i got info from the guy who runs the milestone in charlotte, i don't know if it is true or not.
perhaps i didn't pay attention to something someone said on here.
but...he was pretty confident in what he said...
you know how awesome that would be?
i also heard that maybe dss would be playing with bb again or altamont.
they'd be switching members throughout all the sets.
everyone would be switching it up...and trying something new for each show.
i don't mean to be spreading rumors, but i heard it from someone else.
someone please clarify this for me.
i've heard similar stuff (on this board)
apparently it will be a big crazy fucking circus! including but not limited to: DSS making noise, BB transitioning into Melvins, Porn transition into Melvins, various wild guests, etc. Brian posted something to this effect recently

This 'circus' quote came from someone not in the band, who spoke to Sir DSS at the Big Business free show in Los Angeles a few months or so. That said; Altamont and porn have been listed on some venue sites as opening for the melvins/big business.
I hope this comes over to England if it does happen.
Sure its not a collection of things that are going to happen at some point being thrown together and said as being one show?

At least yeah im sure it will do.
Any body know anything about these tour dates any rumour?
Like will it just be a small tour in europe or will they be playing more than one venue in every contry?
Altamont will just join for the dates in California.
Porn and Altamont are being advertised as playing in many states.. For example, the Ottobar in MD lists Altamont and Porn as support acts in October. Its very likely Cappungents info is correct.
Well I heard for the shows I'm going to Ghostigital is opening, who are, eh, okay. Personally I'd rather see Porn and Altamont, but it's not like I have a choice. Plus Melvins are the main draw anyways.
i'll shit myself if porn opens.

This is true. Porn and Altamont will be playing most dates. DSS will be playing bass for Porn as Billy's off recording someone somewhere.
This whole tour is considered by Buzz to be 'An Evening With the Melvins and Friends.' There will be no local bands opening. Every night will be different.
If that's the case, here is my itinerary:
Wednesday night Sept. 6 - Fly to Sacramento to see the opening show of the tour.
Sunday afternoon Sept.10 - drive to Tacoma and see the all ages show with my sons. Their first Melvins gig.
Monday night Sept.11- Drive to Seattle, Neumo's w/ Bad Ronald
Wednesday night Sept.13 - Drive to Bellingham.
Very cool! I hope they release the last few dates soon. I wonder if the tour is going to extend into 2007?

richie!!! hi bubba!
if what you say is true... why then do they have ghostigital listed as opening in my neck of the woods?
wait a minute... why am I asking this? do I expect rich to actually answer me?
and another thing... hey klump, I believe it was you who said DSS would have no part of this tour.
WHAT IS TRUTH?????
Dave told me that he wasnt playing with anyone for a while cause he has got his hands full with his own stuff.
But Im sure Richie knows him better.
That sounds right; he's playing a bunch of shows around Los Angeles in early september.
Big business played a show the other night to about thirty people and they were in top form. It's going to be a great tour. Lots of nice posters, and doll/statues designed by mackie will be sold.
time to start saving.
time to stop spending.

I ran into Tim Moss while he was working for Peeping Tom. He sadi that Porn were going to be playing the Detroit show and described something simaler to what's been described in this thread. He also said get there right when doors open because there will be bands playing right away, possibly even a quick MELVINS set.

That Porn will be playing some shows, you can also see in the thread (after weeding out the bullshit) a few of the psoters for the tour, some expressly advertising Porn.
Rev. Mike, have you seen the Burlesque poster yet? Or the second SOMA poster (isn't Burlesque printing both?)? How do they look?

They're all pretty much crap, except for that one of all the knives raining down (Nuemo's)
more here: http://www.gigposters.com/posters.php?band=53069
these aren't a whole bunch better though.
I have not seen the BRLSQ poster yet, last time I asked Wes about it he still wasn't sure who was drawing it (either him or Aaron), haven't seen any of the other ones he's printing yet, some may be collaborations between him and the artist he's printing for. I'm gonna be over there next week though, may see some stuff then. the only poster I like that I've seen so far is SOMA's for halloween.
the astronaut illustration is decent. dunno about the typography though.
the old school evening with the melvins (family/dog) is a great idea, but they should freshen up the illustration a bit, i don't like the effect they've put on it.
the mccartney(?) vampire thingy.. sure, the illustration is decent, not to my personal taste though, but thats just me. a bit too hippyish for me.
the knife one would be great if the background was black, or some other color.
to me, the winner is definately the mouth/eye one. its great typography wise, and more exiting than the other ones. it would fit ween better though.
of course this is just my opinion. (well, some of it is true, design wise.) sorry if i'm picky - its my job.

Thanks for the info Rev. Mike.
This is the beauty of graphic design, 10 different people will all like something different,
but they're all right and no one is wrong. Aesthetics are a very personal, undefinable thing.
there are some basics that are definable though. like knowledge of general aesthetics and contrast/color/typography/alignment. of course, everyone can break these boundaries/rules, but not many people can do it, and make it look great.
a poster can also be great layout wise without you likeing it though. thats what personal taste is all about.
you can work your ass off in school learning all the rules, and abide them every second of your life, but it gets you nowhere unless you have a creative mind. you'll just end up making things that have been made a zillion times before. and in the other end of the scale is the person whos a natural. he can make great things without knowing the rules (only unconciously)..
ok, i'm not sure where i'm going with this - i forgot.
i must be tired..? something something?
wow, i read through what i just wrote, and i'm sure it would sound a lot smarter in Norwegian :)
at least i hope so.
the "a" in "aesthetics" really bugs me.
less is more.
if you want it overfilled - be sure to overdo it.
the bigger the contrast, the better.

I agree with Lunica. There's an abundance of artists who put out shitty artwork; and when you say so, they usually give the reply 'It's just my style, you don't understand it.'
oh, i remember what i was gonna say now:
the important thing is; in order to be a good designer, you should have some of both (rules/theoretic stuff + personal style/creativity/the fun stuff). not necessarily an equal amount of both. for me, it usually starts out at 90% creativity/10% rules in the idea phase, but it evens out as the idea(s) develop. as important as the idea is, the whole work process - from coming up with an idea - getting it down on paper, chosing your direction, making different choices in layout/colors/, to the finishing touch - it's all equally important.
den skal tidlig kr

interesting, lunica liked that one too, i wasnt overly
keen on it but thats because i've used eyes on so many things
i kind of mentally shut them out of my design lately, but loooking
with fresh eyes (no pun) it actually is nice, i like the headline type,
its wood press or maybe metal press and the eyes, now that i look
left brain remind me of an old rotarty telephone dial.
also, 100Y rocks in any job where you can get it approved
THIS SERIES SUCKS COMPARED TO LAST SERIES.
