"The bit" is on the top of my list, and I'd have to think what the others are...probably the whole riffing of "Instant Larry", also

yeah id put 'The Bit' is top of my list too.
i think 'Queen' has a really cool, sludgy riff. definatley a standout riff on stoner which. awsome for a slow tempo song.
that really chunky, bone crunching part of 'the fool, the meddling idiot' when it sounds like armagedden approaching.
heaps of others but these are in my mind at the moment. oh, and basically anything high distortion, palm muted, on dropped D....which is alot!

Definitely agree with the AMAZON and the fool... crunch part.

Charmicarmicat also kicks ass.

In fact now that I think about it most guitar based Melivns songs have cool riffs - I guess that's why I love them.

i don't think he's using a whammy bar on at the stake.  i think he's just pushing the string down behind the nut.

some consider Stoner Witch their masterpiece,
but I actually think Stag is their best CD. And by
extension that Mark D solo disc too. Great riffs on
every song. hard to pick favorites!

I agree with anaconda on this one. Stag is probably there best. It really represents there diversity. While I think there three classic albums are Bullhead, Stag, and HAT.Stag is probably there most definitive album.

Are Stoner Witch and Stag the only two albums released on a major label?

And what do y'all think of HAT? Its my favourite because i sounds unlike any other ( but then again i have only 5albums), and it is a really good arangement. It flows smoothly, and it just SOUNDS great, raw. In saying that though, my favoruite songs arent on that album. But what do y'all think of HAT??[/quote]

Divorced with Tool has an awsome riff... so does Skin Horse (its just so tiny) Also in Brain Center At Whippys when the guitar noise follows Buzz vocal snarls almost perfectly.

I can't choose a favourite, but a really good rif along the lines of CHarmicarmacat is the one from Speciman (available on the 1-12 singles, plus live at various shows). Should check it out if you havn't already.

I studied art history in Paris for a month back in '05. Every bar was a gay one, and everyone smoked! Even the alley cats! What fun!
