Great fun show, Porn played a goofy/heavy little set 20 minutes maybe, at the end of which Dale thanked everyone for coming and said they would be too drunk after Big Business played and that would be the end of the show, he was wearing a clown wig during the Porn performance, the bassist was not Billy Anderson. Ghostigital then played, they were funny and the guy was obviously into what he was doing which made the set, he mentioned loving the Mall of America because they have an oxygen bar, and he brought his own oxygen because he does not trust us. They did have a really cool old Roland analog tape loop machine. Not really what I'm into though, I wouldn't have minded if they hadn't been there.
Big Business played and were very good, 4 songs on their own, then two with Dale rocking out on guitar, then one on their own then the Melvins. Melvins were a precision machine, same setlist as the rest of tour I'm guessing, the set is basically choreographed with the drummers as centerpieces, and i have to say that the new songs were the highlight of the whole thing for me, the older material was good of course but the new songs are just so right for this line-up and they just straight rocked, I had a real good time.
As far as merch, they had 5 shirt designs, octopus, skull, mouth with teeth, and Halloween bitch all on black, plus a white one with a skeleton saying Melvins, the Qees signed by Mackie, lots of cd's, all the previous posters, and a few miscelaneous 7 inches, mostly HAT stuff. Seemed like they were out of lots of shirt sizes, particularly M and L.
thanks for the review - good 1.
twas a good show. My brother first saw the Melvins last spring when they played the OX-OP art show thing in Uptown (not Grumpys) so this was his first Melvins show with good sounds and it was with the dual drummers. And as much fun as it was to watch the dual drummers (aside from a couple flubs that you wouldnt have noticed if you werent completely focused on Dale and Coady the entire show - they were fuckin on!) ... I am actually alot more excited for the new possibilities opening up with the three vocals.
Snagged the skull/crossbones shirt and signed poster art for that particular show.
good times. Been seeing the Melvins for 10 years live now, and they had been stagnating a bit with their setlists and whatnot the last few times I had seen them, its good to get this breath of fresh air with new members and material.

Is it possible for you to share a photo of the poster that you snagged?

My theory is since they have two new members and they only had so much time to learn new songs, thus they learned the melvins "most popular" songs.
Perhaps as they play together longer the setlist will expand. Also finding interesting and cool things to do with two drumkits on your old songs must take a bit of time to put together correctly.
plus they can handle the higher vocals from way back.

I didn't know there were any 'most popular'songs.
yea I do hope they dig back for future tours at some point and bring out songs seldom heard ... I mean I have heard The Bit, Let It All Be, Revolve etc enough. I wouldnt be sad if they were not in the setlist for a few years.

That's why the word is in quotes hehe, but nonetheless, I have a feeling it was time constraints that has limited the set list for now.
They'll roll out some "new" old tunes eventully. There's plenty of material to choose from, so much to the point that it gets overwhelming to think about it.

hes the melvins soundman. if you've seen the melvins live you've seen him. he's got glasses and short-ish moppy hair, brown. if (and when) you saw him you would recognize him. he has been behind the soundboard for every melvins show I have ever been to.
I talked to him briefly a few times, and he seems like a nice guy.
Really talented soundman.
he was behind the board when the INFAMOUS Colloususs of destiny was recorded.
And when we talked he had a Psychic TV button on his shirt.
A Psychic TV button you say?
Well then, HE MUST BE COOL!!!!
